colesl4w Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 So I've just discovered this is a thing... here are a few examples: aaand from below: And another example, from a Merc: What do you think of that? Just tacky as hell IMO! Quote
coldel Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Wow I didn't know that haha. I did notice on cars with odd shaped exits (ie rectangular etc) that if you look closely its just a big lump of metal stuck onto a small round exhaust sat back about 1 or 2 inches from the back of the car. Quote
Jay84 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I knew one would be an Audi, I've seen it on TT's a couple of times. Was fun watching the mot tester trying to stick the probe up it. 2 Quote
Ekona Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Loads do it: R8, Gallardo, California etc. Not actually a bad idea, as it means you can change to any aftermarket exhaust without worrying about it fitting your rear bumper, or if it's going to mark on the tip, or if you don't like the aftermarket tip design etc. But no, not for me thanks. nixy Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Didn't realise that! Will be guessing all the time now while I'm driving along behind some of these. Quote
GMballistic Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 My FN2 Civic was a bit like that but at least on that car the round exhaust actually goes inside the triangle/s so the fumes come out through the proper exit. Much prefer a car not to be like that imho. Quote

davey_83 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Veyron has a mix of visible and non exhaust tailpipes, no biggie Quote
Exec Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Wow I didn't even know the likes of Audi sq5's had fake exits! I know of other cars but they're not exactly premium top of the range models like the sq5! Wow.. Just wow. You want a proper exhaust on a machine like that. Im sure iv seen sq5's with one huge oval single exit exhaust. Or is it sq3 I'm thinking of? Quote
Rock_Steady Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) i didn't know that either. It is a bit gash IMO. If you're going to go that far to design the body so it is suppose to accommodate an exhaust then Nike!, Just do it! Edited April 4, 2017 by Rock_Steady Quote
Stutopia Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 If you're gonna put fake exits on, why not do the side or a roof funnel? You know, really go for it 1 Quote
rabbitstew Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I noticed this a long time ago. I think the space ship civic with the triangle ones was the first one I noticed, but it seems its the norm now. Doesnt bother me one way or another tbh, but I think it does look a bit silly. Quote
KyleR Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I've noticed the Civic and a few others doing it that way, which I'm fine with, but completely fake, unfunctional pipes like that Merc and Audi are a bloody joke! Quote
Strudul Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) I was okay with the civic triangle exhaust since the alternative was awful plastic blanking plates... Edited April 4, 2017 by Strudul 1 Quote
BobbyZ Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 How silly. I defo wouldn't buy a car with that 'feature'. Quote
Luke0549 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 the best one is the Golf R Estate - only 2 out of the 4 exits are connected. Unlike the S3/Golf R Quote
jimboy2 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 The Lexus ISF with the weird stacked quad exhaust are like that too. The top ones are fake Quote
Strudul Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Still nowhere near as bad as playing fake exhaust sounds through the speakers... 1 Quote
Aashenfox Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Still nowhere near as bad as playing fake exhaust sounds through the speakers... Agreed. Quote
