As per the title, realistically  * no astronauts, pornstars or presidents what would be you're dream job?

Scenario is you've come into life changing money and looking to set up your own business, not to make a profit necessarily but to pass your time doing what you love.

I'll go first, luxury and super car detailer *C&D service

hmm, well, probably go racing! start a race team/buy my way into a seat in blancpain endurance/GT class racing. Cant imagine a better way to spend my time than travelling all over the world, driving the best racecars on the best racetracks. yep, that'd be the life for me! would need quite a large life changing sum of money though...

My main passion since my teens has been kungfu.

I really love teaching but it wouldn't ever pay the bills.

From little kids to teenagers and pensioners, love mentoring them all and enjoy the friendships and bonds created along the way.

This I teach Taekwondo, hopefully one day I'll sell my business and just teach more.

Or a close second, work in a chocolate factory.

Working with young people. Not tiny kids who can't string a sentence together, but from say the ages of 8-18. Helping the more troubled ones, whether that's from a background of poverty or just because they're a typical angry teen, to become a decent human being. I suspect that's an incredibly rewarding thing to do, it just doesn't pay enough to be a true goal in regular life.

Or teach learner drivers how to drive for fun, and the basics of car physics so that when they pass their test they can go for a hoon but have some idea of what's going to happen. Truth is I've looked into this, but I struggle to make a business case for it. Lottery win would sort that out though. :)

Supercar detailer. I'm 12 years older than my wife, and I've already told her that once I retire, whilst I'm waiting for her, I'm gonna go work part time for a luxury or sports car dealership cleaning cars.

ooh could I become a transporter, from the film 'The Transporter'? essentially getting paid large amounts of money to courier stuff around Europe in a 7 series or similar (I'd avoid the kung fu element though)

or a slightly more attainable dream - ultimate airport transfers - buy a Ferrari FF or other 4 seat super GT car, and spend my days doing the 4am airport run with well to do business types.

There are a surprising number of you who dream of polishing cars all day  :surrender:

For me, engine mechanic and engine development for a racing team.

Thanks for the ideas chaps

Im retiring from IT at the end of November and have been struggling with ideas! I also used to teach martial arts (wing chun and thai boxing) which was awesome, music (continue with the violin), help animals, volunteer in disaster zones, etc.

I like the idea of a supercar (and classic car) taxi :teeth: that's awesome! But no choice would I spend my days detailing those cars....

And how could I possibly forget, scuba instructor for

See I would go completely the other way. A couple of years back my neighbour noted that I spent every weekend outside cleaning my car, interior, keeping it immaculate. She had an 15 year old + BMW convertible 3 series. Probably worth about a grand I thought, it was covered in all sorts of welded on crap, hood had moss etc. Turns out she bought the car new and was the only owner, she loved the car but car washes never worked on it. So I offered to detail it for her, the look on her face when she came out after I get it back to pretty much brand new was amazing she couldnt stop saying thank you, even rang her brother up who then drove over from an hour away to come and look. Clearly the car meant a lot but she didnt have the knowhow to go to a detailer. I couldnt imagine getting the same satisfaction cleaning a supercar and have the owner waltz back in throw me a £20 tip without so much as a second look and just drive off...

I like the professional driver ideas, either courier in a nice car, or a track based job. But i worry i'd be like the rich guys trashing their super car and upsetting other track folk...obviously im a driving god so it'd be fine, but I still worry.

I always liked the idea of being an author, I have some ideas I like for some books, but work, kids, cars and life keep getting in the way.

I don't have a dream job I just want  to give up work and play with / build stuff all day the last thing I'd want to do would be anything car related because it's what I love doing and if it was work I might stop enjoying it.

I think am lucky, I love my job, went on hoilday for 10 days recently and for the first time for a long while didnt take the work laptop....by the end of day 3 I was itching to get some work done. By the end of day 10 I was bored out of my mind. As a result have cancelled another hoilday planned for later in the year, work is much more fun!!!!

If I did have the ability to take 8 weeks off I would love to learn to code properly in SAS which would make my day to day job so much more productive and less reliant on others, sad I know :).

Practical impossible to replicate on a daily or even week basis as much as we'd all love.
