Tiny air leak upsetting the balance maybe? You could nip up the plenum bolts just in case. Also a quick check of the accordion on the air intake just before the tb to check for cracks?

I like that layout as the angles mean get you more finesse over the smaller throttle opening where you want it for pootling about

There are loads of cheaper exhausts out there but for me this one is the biz: 5Zigen Pro-Racer the sound is just fantastic. When you tickle along it growls, when you flatten the pedal it screams at everything behind you. It's fantastic. There are some youtube vids out there. Unfortunately many have stupid music over them but you will get the idea. As it happens, there is a used one on ebay at the moment along with some a Y-Pipe and racing cats. I'm having a crap few weeks. My jobs being really hard and I'm dealing with some very difficult and exacting customers. Colleagues all seem to be unable to do anything without asking for my decision or approval and the burden of responsibility is getting pretty heavy - too many things to juggle at once and to much at stake it I make a mistake. Ok so no-one will die (its computer systems) but the stress levels are pretty high. At home, my wife is generally great but is a bit fragile at the moment for various reasons and needs a lot of reassurance and attention - something I have very little brain space for although I do try hard. She gets the priority but that then makes work all the harder. To take my mind off work I run a small sideline in fixing car keys on eBay. More fool me I suppose but I try very hard to give good service and go over and above what I have to do - getting to the post office fast if someone has an urgent repair, replacing extra parts at no cost if I see they are faulty, giving free advice instead of trying to flog a repair if they don't need it. Today someone complained that I had replaced the battery in his key when the one in it was already new. I don't test batteries as they are almost always knackered: I fling them in the recycler and fit a new one every time. Because he had bought it at sainsburys for £5 he thinks he should have a £5 refund or else, even though I've fitted a brand new one and the exact brand he bought is available on ebay for £1 including postage. Even though I've offered to send out or pay for a same-brand replacement. It just makes you wonder why you bother being good to people in general when they can be such bell-ends back to you. Ok, its a wallow of self-pity I admit that. And nothing on what some of you might be going through. But sometimes you just need to vent and sometimes you just need a kind word.

Sounds like they are full of air. You may have a fluid leak- have you checked the reservoir level? If its low check under the car and look for leaks.

Yes, I suppose it does bent the mind a bit with the calculation and one step wrong an a large, expensive block is a doorstop. If you are using an insulating spacer anyway I guess it would seem silly to waste the opportunity

please don't strike me down with wrath, but couldn't you have designed the oval to round transition in the inlet milling? Or was that a computational step to far for your setup? Perhaps it's as simple as it's just easier in the gasket/spacer, not necessarily the ideal solution? I only ask as the transition could be more gradual but maybe that doesn't add much value?

3 years dent ranges from £199 to £250. Usually £10 excess for each claim, up to 4 a year. Alloy ranges form £99 to £150 on the same terms but limited to £100 or a bit more per wheel for a repair or a £150 excess if the alloy can't be repaired.

I've just bought a bmw, picking it up in an hour actually. Nothing as fancy as the 435 but I did do some research. Those links woudl have saved a few hours ! Anyway, my only point was that the BMW standard audio and sat nave are 'limited'. Advanced audio is seen as a must although HK is not seen as worth the extra cash it requires. The standard sat-nav has a tiny screen and the upgraded version a bigger one. That's a bit of a rip-off but again, if you ever use the sat-nav then you need the upgrade on in most people's opinion. Finally, driver comfort pack is a good one to have as you get cruise and F/R parking sensors. I apologise in advance if this doesn't apply to the 4-series, mine is a 1-series M which are known to be a bit basic before you add stuff on.

I'm considering preserving the paint and ease of cleaning on my new buy with a decent detail and ceramic coat. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good detailer in the Carlisle / north Cumbria area? I also work in Leeds from time to time so somewhere there is possible. As we all do, I want to find somewhere where they do a good job and also can be trusted not to take the car out for a ragging!

Just after buying a (nearly) new car is prime time for kerbing. And I can't bear the worry of parking in the supermarket and coming back to find a door dent. Its a definite buy for me, just wondering if anyone else has any experience with the companies?

I'm thinking of taking out both dent and alloy insurance. My car is eligible but I'm not sure if its a good deal or not. The prices seem ok but has anyone had experience with any particular companies, good or bad? It would be handy to know which ones don't like to pay out and which ones are smooth an painless in the event of an incident. Cheers

I like those tips on mods, thank you Yeah, I'm thinking 135 at the moment mainly because of price. TBH mild tuning woudl be enough for me as I live where the roads aint great so hooning isn't on the list, but handling and sound are. The more I look at them the more I like them, but the spec options leave me bewildered. It doesn't help that most ads are a solid block of text that doesn't always make it the clearest what the extra bits are. Still, I'm getting the hang of it. Must haves are the decent sat nav thingie, decent sound system and a nice to have is the trick headlights. Most of the rest doesn't bother me (that's ignorance I expect). I'd like the LSD but I think that's very unlikely to find.

Thanks for the reply One reason for change is that I want a manual so that's an essential. Auto's make me lazy and I simply can't get used to pressing on with a flappy paddle system. Event he best auto doesn't change exactly how i want it to, which is an irritant. I'm not bothered about the facelift or not except for resale. I don't see them as the prettiest cars anyway. I'd buy something else for looks but a big, manual, throaty engine with a decent ground clearance and *reasonably* narrow body are all plus points for me. Golf and Audi make me yawn (except the RS6 - dream on though). I've never had a powerful bmw so I thought it worth a try. Good call on the runflats. I'll have to change them if they are fitted so it's an extra cost.
