1st car

I'm bored so just for a laugh.

What was your 1st car and what happened to it? Funniest story wins 5 internet points!

Red G reg 1.4 Ford Orion with peco powermaster exhaust and ghia interior scavenged from scrap yards and a few of my mates write offs. I crashed it into the back of a van that had stoppped at a zebra crossing. oops.

Best part was 30 seconds after the crash someone i went to school with drove past in the other direction and while laughing at my misfortune failed to notice the car in front of him had stopped and smashed into it. ok not that funny but at the time it made me laugh.

I managed to fix it but had to drive around with a maroon bonnet for another 3 or 4 months and eventually it got scrapped due to severe rust among many other issues.

My first car was a 2001 Saxo VTR, lots of engine mods but pretty much standard except wheels and lowered. Loved it. Broke 3 gearboxes in 6 months due to power output. Nothing else happened really lol

Vauxhall astra gte in red. Had that brilliant lcd dash.

Had her a year. In that time issues with brakes seizing and boiling fluid, a golf ball sized hole in the back passenger foot well o and a huge petrol leak. One from the pump on the rear and one from a fuel line under the car.

Reason I got rid of her though was the fact she got broken into 5 times in the one year lol. Must have been the easiest car ever to break into.

Good game :)

My first car was a 1.0l H reg Ford a Fiesta (beast it was)....anyway, after getting the modifying bug from the get go a bought a full XRIIi body kit & wheels. So it looked the business, but it was only a 1.0.

Funny part is that someone stole it from behind the police station where my old man parked it for a joy ride. I laugh now as I can imagine them getting excited "ooh look let's steal that quick fiesta there"....then they start it up and get a whopping 1.0l

I had an F reg Vauxhall Nova 1.3 SR.

Was great until I saw an Orion smash into the back of a van at a zebra crossing. I stopped to see if anyone needed assistance until 30 seconds later someone smashed into the back of me....

White 1.3 Astra estate on an E plate. God knows how I ended up with an estate for my 1st car but was a cracking car and actually served well for extra curricular activities in college if you get my drift ;)

Sadly a mini pulled out in front of me one day and the car was written off. Will never ever forget the face of terror of the lass driving the mini as I ploughed into the side of her :(

First car ~ 1988 Nissan Micra 998cc Mk1 (4 speed but upgraded to 5 speed after I killed the first gearbox). Similar to below picture;

DSC00420.jpg

Crashed it into the back of a parked "Clipper" bus whilst racing a mate in his Clio 1.2. :nono:

Cost of damage to the Micra £750 (back in the mid 90's :scare: ) ~ cost of damage to the Clipper bus £35.

Was going to over take the parked bus but there was oncoming traffic so hit the brakes and just slid straight into the back of it.

Also slightly crashed it when rallying up in North Wales after I glanced off the side of a stone built wall coming over a humped back bridge ~ wasn't too bad so carried on like a Pro. Was amazed though afterwards at the damage the wall had done to the side of the Micra.

And last but not least, ...crashed it in an Asda's car park whilst it was wet when I tried to take a corner too fast & understeered into a green bollard.

After all that it still lived so I traded it in for my next car just in the nick of time as the piston rings had gone & it was smoking badly. :D:rolleyes:

I had a '98 Clio 1.2 - totally stock except I fitted a CD player instead of a tape deck :yahoo:

The sunroof jammed shut, the interior door handle snapped off, the cambelt went whilst I was making progress in the outside lane of the motorway :scare: and lunched the engine, the ABS went nuts, a thief punched a hole in the passenger door with a screwdriver and stole precisely nothing, I pranged a kerb so hard that it bent the rim about 2 inches out, drunks put a foot long crack in the windscreen, and then a week before I was due to flog it for a grand towards going traveling, the gearbox jammed in second and I got £50 off a scrappy for it.

I won't be going back to French autos anytime soon

Prior to me having it, and that lot, the most remarkable thing happened to it. The front wing was ripped off by a big cat during the night.

No really! My folks woke up in the morning and went to take it out and the wing was mangled and hanging off, there was a huge paw print on the bonnet and what can only be described as deep gouges all over. Before you say it was just nobheads who happened to have a paw print maker handy, my folks lived in a ridiculously out of the way place about two miles down a dirt track from the nearest road, which itself was a back of beyond B road. No one ever walked past.

It's a crazy world.

All front wheel drive so far! FR for the win lol.

Mine was a '73 mk3 Cortina GXL .

Started life as a 1.6L 4 speed ....but soon had a 2.0L pinto and 5 speed box out of a Sierra, twin choke webber carb with the secondary choke milled out and re-jetted and fast road cams. It was a lot of fun!

Obviously being 17 and not very flush meant cheap mods from the breakers. I took an angle grinder to the springs, cutting them in half so running on the bump stops. lol, spax adjustable shocks from a mk2 escort that were so short that if going over a hump back bridge or flyover they would reach full travel and the rear wheels would leave the road. The car was so low at one point that the propshaft flange wore a hole through the transmission tunnel!

Lots of other DIY mods, wheels, interior etc...............I bloody loved that car. Had it 4 years, but needed to sell it for something more reliable when I joined the RAF and had to travel long distance regularly.

I have recently been told by an old friend that he's seen it under a cover in Leigh on sea.

My first car was a 1965 "C" Reg MiniVan. My dad bought it (with my money I must add) as I knew nothing about cars in 1969. Paid £180 for it with about 40k on the clock. Just one owner too although looking at the old fashioned log book it was almost full of change of ownership stamps. The previous owner must have moved house 10 times in 4 years :surrender: . . It was unfortunately riddled with faults..hole in the petrol tank, an orange warning light was on all the time and nobody knew what it was. There was a horrible misfire which turned out to be the HT leads, the heater was pathetic and all the grommets on the floor were missing and the drivers window, a sliding affair was stuck. It did however have a push button start and a dip switch on the floor

. What happened to it...oh dear, without going into specific details I allowed someone else to drive while I was in the back (don't ask). Got rolled over after the driver lost control and hit a kerb by The King's School in Chester on Boxing Day 1969. I was able to drive it home and the scrapman picked it up once the insurance wrote it off.

I had a 1989 1.3 Fiat Uno Turbo. It was black with a red interior (oddly enough, the same colour scheme as my 370.....) Had a full Scorpion exhaust on it and K&N cone filter. Drove that around for 5 years ( I loved it )

Went everywhere in that, raves all over the UK, even moved to Belgium with me for 9 months. Then some guy in Hastings drove in to the back of me in his Citroen BX and wrote it off :(

It's still a contender for my favourite car but my current one still wins out so it's been moved down to 2nd place.

I also had a 1973 mk3 cortina, the doors could be opened by just about any key so to try to prevent it being stolen I used to remove the centre lead from the distributor so it wouldn't start, lost count of the amount of times I found it 100 yards down the road where car thieves had given up after trying unsuccessfully to bump start it. Once got it stuck in the sand at Weston supermare beach and had to have it towed off. One time it wouldn't start, turned out the points were fried, picked up a set and refitted but had no feeler blades to set gap, turns out the card off a cigarette packet was just the right thickness for setting the gap(wise old fella showed me that) Lots of fond memories of that old nail (most of which I can't share) but it eventually gave in to the dreaded rust and ended up in the local scrap yard.....glad I moved on from old bangers :)

First car i had bought for me - a escort 3 door estate (Mk3).

First car I bought with my own cash - Corolla GTi16V (ae92 i think?) hatchback (fwd drive one in white, sadly not the rwd version). A c-plate and it even had electric windows. A few scrapes here and there - nothing tipex (yes really) wouldn't hide. The doors whistled at motorway speeds - but it was great. To be fair if it had been the RWD one I'd have probably binned it anyway at the age of 18!!!

Mine was a metallic turquoise 1993 on a K reg Vauxall Astra 1.6 si !!! I paid £250 for it and it had covered 252,000 miles. the insurance was £700!! I can remember the bloke who sold it to me saying " the heater in this is phenomenal! after a minute it gets really hot, an excellent point of the car" yeah, that was a sign of the head gasket going as it did about a couple of weeks later as I would thrash the tappets out of it on any journey being a young lad. So I repaired it and sold it to a yocal who was then caught drink driving and the car was crushed as far as I know. No love loss there really as it was a carbuncle on wheels.

1958 Standard 10. At the time my Dad was Head of East Surrey's police traffic department. Their mechanic sourced it for me, in exchange for 25 of her majesty's finest pounds and on the basis that he would should me how to fix it and get it on the road. 18 months of unsympathetic treatment later and insufficient funds to maintain it properly led to it's timely demise.
