Luke0549 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 It's a strange feeling being overtaken by your own wheel.... Luckily i was just going down the road. New wing is needed though. Whoops... Quote
Neilp Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Wing looks repairable from here. This is unfortunate but it's something i check regularly. Not only that they are tight but are torqued correctly. Quote

Wasso Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 How the heck can you have 5 loose bolts? I'm sure they didn't all come off at the same time? So there must have been some serious steering wheel vibrations? Quote
Flex Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Wow, that's the sort of thing I'd do. Tuff luck buddy. Hope you get sorted soon! Quote
ZMANALEX Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Check the wheel stud holes very carefully as they will be more than likely elongated. Alex. Quote
Luke0549 Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Felt some wobble/noise and was going to pull in to shops at end of road and check. Still drives fine, so no proper damage. Quote
TomS Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Nearly done that myself, started to reverse down the drive before realising I hadn't done a couple of nuts up. Not all 5 though Quote
Gudzy Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I noticed that I'd lost a wheel nut and that the other 4 were quite loose on one of my wheels recently. I'm glad I checked as I was doing a 200 mile round trip that day so could have caused me some serious problems. I guessed someone was either trying to steal the wheel or trying to kill me. Quote
Simon+Kat Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Had the same thing happen to me on a family holiday to Wales in a Maverick with 6 people aboard. The day after we arrived, we set off through the little country lanes, felt some vibration so i stopped and checked....1 bolt remaining sent the others guys back down the road and they found 3 bolts within 100 metres, strange. Was scarey seeing as we had driven for 3.5 hrs at motorway speeds the day before. So im paranoid with bolt tightening now, as you can imagine. Quote
nzr350z Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Have you had the car up on ramps, must be some lovely scrapes underneath?Has the brake disc scraped too? Quote
marzman Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 When was that wheel last removed? Have you got standard nuts? Quote
Luke0549 Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Yeah all standard nuts. I removed the wheel last week to check fitment of new wheels that are to be fitted, I probably just didn't do it up tight enough tbh. Own fault. Ah well. Live and learn. Quote
Dblock Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I'm gonna check mine now Glad its a small repair and no one was hurt which is the main thing. Time to invest in a torque wrench? Quote
Ricey Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Funny jetset had a similar problem with them coming loose and that was only a week or so after him and chris torqued them up properly as well Quote
mc Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I'd have thought it was too easy to over-tighten wheel nuts, I always think mine feel too loose when I've torqued them up. Maybe some damaged threads caused it? Quote
