JetSet Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Driven a few thousand miles in both, HR more responsive, smoother...no contest really. Pete Quote
Toon Chris Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I my DE Although the uprev probably helps. And the oil never needs topping up between changes. Quote
Nivek4209 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 What years were these engine,s used De De rev- up HR Is it easy to tell the difference when going to look at a car ?? Quote
Ekona Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Yes, look at the redline. 6.5 for DE 7 for DE revup 7.5 for HR 1 Quote
Lexx Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 HR engine has dual air intakes. DE only has one. Quote
addisj Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 or simply look at the bonnet. HR - bonnet bulge. Quote
Siman350z Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Yes, look at the redline. 6.5 for DE 7 for DE revup 7.5 for HR Is that the rev limiter or where the red starts on the dial? Reason I ask is I think my de car may have had a rev-up tune but don't know how to tell.... Quote

It's called UpRev and is totally separate from the manufacturers naming of the engine. Quote
KyleR Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I drive an 04 DE, so first generation engine, but the HR is a better engine, plus you get the extra goodies of better interior, sexy lights and power bulging bonnet The only thing the DE has over the HR is modability. More choice in intakes, plenums and plenum spacers. However, after spending all that money on upgrading the various intake system parts, you still won't have achieved the power of the HR. 1 Quote

I've been told aswell that the HR can take more power on standard internals Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
addisj Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 so the only downside to ah HR is that is uses a lot of oil? My Type-R was like that and I was forever checking it. It made me paranoid! Quote
Rock_Steady Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 best engine. slap that under your bonnet. Quote

350zedd Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 At this stage of the game surely all of this is hypothetical, if an engine has not had regular oil changes with the correct oil and been run on 95 RON fuel then it's a ticking bomb anyway. Dan is right to a point but I wouldn't want that horribly high oil consumption that an HR can give. Sent from my Zed using Nangkang tyres front, RE040's rear This is news to me.....I've never heard this before about the HR. I thought it was the 06 Rev-up engine that suffered from high oil consumption. My HR has never used a drop since I've owned her! Quote
Lexx Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Never heard of a HR using oil. Rev up it can be a common issue. I did 40 in my HR and it never used any more oil than an average car. Quote
addisj Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I found this which is a pretty good thread discussing the 3 engines: http://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/410769-stock-de-vs-revup-vs-hr-vs-vhr-numbers.html Quote

leebottrill Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Well as I said I've got the hr and it seems pretty nice. Always feel I could do with a bit more power...:/ Quote
