Commander Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Morning.. The (original, 106k mile!) clutch recently went on my otherwise very good condition 07 HR Coupe. With a 5.0 XKR on the way, clutch prices being what they are (~£1500 for supply and fitting) and with the GB needing a refurb (the synchros on 6th are slowly going, another ~£500), I'm tempted to break it rather than sell it as I think I might get more money for it. Has anybody done similar? Any experiences? Rough ideas about what the break value of a HR Z is? Cheers, Richard Quote
nissanman312 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Possibly more than selling If your prepared to wait for things to sell slowly Quote
valy Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 the downside is your engine clocked a good few miles and that will set you back a bit....if I was looking for an engine I wouldn't want more then 40k on it...but that is just me... I would think will be more hustle to break and would suggest to get the repairs done ,good and cheap if possible and sell don't kill another Zed Quote
Aashenfox Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) Brembos 500 (600 with discs, pads, lines and backing plates) Seats 500 if in good condition Interior bits (center console upper and lower, shifter mechanism, sound system/bose sub and amp another 500 Steering wheel if good (if not give it a refurb) 150 Engine 1000 due to mileage, good rebuild project for someone Gearbox for repair 250 Rays stock wheels 300-500 depending on condition and tyres Suspension arms and struts (if bushes are good) another 250 Bonnet 200 (just a guess? I'd pay 200 quid for an HR bonnet) Diff if its in good shape 200 Headlights 500 any day of the week... That's about 4 and a half grand and you've still got loads of odds and sods. Jay M1988 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Scares me when I see these breaking posts, my 53 plate 350z is still on the oem clutch at 115k its like playing Russian roulette 1 Quote
Ekona Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 £1500 for a clutch fitted sounds awfully pricey to me, is it really that much? I think it would be a huge shame to break a HR where the only issue is a clutch and a squiffy gearbox, but I can see your reasoning. 1 Quote
Strudul Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 But by killing 1 HR, you can give life to many more 2 Quote
Aashenfox Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I replaced clutch disc, pressure plate and bearing (and flywheel while I was in there, but not relevant to this topic) for just over 200 quid for parts and about another 250 labour from a local independent who has Z experience. Here is the clutch kit I bought... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261870422161 Quote

Flex Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I did start a breakdown on this, not HR but listed quite a lot of prices out. If I had time to find it...... Quote
Ebized Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Why not sound out the traders we see on here that break Zeds as to what they might offer you? Quote
KyleR Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 About £650 for clutch and flywheel from Adrain, how much would fit it? Quote
Ian Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I've always made more money from breaking cars instead of selling them, its a massive ball ache though 1 Quote

Head says break it, heart says fix it. £50 for gear knob (really) £40 door handles £60-£70 window motors even the little bits add up. Plus lights front and back could get you £4-500. Trouble is the useless wreck you get on the drive for a year that you then have to pay someone to winch away. Quote
Aashenfox Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) By the way, if you do break it, dibs on the taillights please Edited February 10, 2017 by Aashenfox Quote

Zeezeebaba Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Haha the reference to the bonnet was the first clue Quote
Keyser Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 What Ian said - breaking them is a PITA and you need space and time they take up a LOT more space in bits than they do together! I've done a few now and still have bits laying around You can sell it for spares or repairs to move it on in one job lot ... just a thought Quote

Might just whack it on ebay then for 5k or so and see what happens.. clutch / gearbox aside it's in pretty good nick. Quote
marzman Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 This sounds mad to be parting your car for the cost of a clutch job. ...and the 6th synchro... isnt this just a quirk of zed ownership? Double clutch ftw. 1 Quote
Rook Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 More or less how I feel... How much do you want for it as is? Quote
Commander Posted February 11, 2017 Author Posted February 11, 2017 similar age / mileage ones in good working order are going for 7k, so 5.5 seems reasonable? Quote
