Definitive Cars

Current Focus RS will be forgotten reasonably quickly, certainly not going to be a classic or the definitive anything imho. It might be the quickest hatch, but so what? Next year the new Golf will come out which will be even quicker.

 

I'd say the Clio 182 Trophy has a great shout of definitive hot hatch too, much more so than any Focus. Still think the Golf GTi mk2 nicks it though.

 

 

It's not about being the fastest. Think of it more as showing something to an alien and he has to understand that's exactly what you mean. I used the 911 as definitive sports coupe as that's what every single competitor would love to have, something that defies age and always drives spectacularly whilst having a USP and room for the kids. Doesn't matter what 911, just compare it through the ages.

 

Hot hatch was an invention of the '80s really, and it's a car that carries the family at a brisk pace with perfect controls and steering feel.

Yep surely the definitive hot hatch is the Golf GTi , love them or hate them they define the Hot Hatch.

I don't think so. The definitive thing can be new, it can be old, but because of what it did/is it will always be that. P1 for example is arguably the definitive hypercar because of the torque fill, that will never change.

I don't think so. The definitive thing can be new, it can be old, but because of what it did/is it will always be that. P1 for example is arguably the definitive hypercar because of the torque fill, that will never change.

 

But you have to define a hypercar to decide if a car is definitive, what are the factors that define a hypercar. Then, if the P1 fulfills ALL those factors does it become definitive. However if another car fulfills it also, then you do not have the definitive list of factors that define what definitive is. Unless of course two cars could be definitive by meeting the criteria of all the factors that define definitive...

Definitive 4 door coupe will be the CLS

 

All brands are now on the bandwagon but that doesn't make them pretty. Most and up with the same profile as a typical mondeo/insignia taxi

 

X6 started the coupe/SUV crossover trend

Definitive hypercar is the Carrera GT. They only got softer and safer from there on. The GT is the most hardcore hypercar ever, imo and therefore defines the genre. some of todays pig-heavy hyper cars are not worthy of the moniker. Alternatively, you could say the definitive was the Lamborghini Diablo, a concept perfected in the Carrera GT.

And having just seen the last reply, this isnt about what "you" think, its about icons, game changers, seminal cars, decisions that people simply cant argue with.

 

An F type is pretty for sure, but ask 100 people which is prettier and I bet 99 will go with the XKE, even Enzo himself did.

 

This isnt that hard of a concept is it? Think of it like reverse internet pointless, the more people say the same answer the more likely it is the actual definitive "x".

 

So the Carrera GT is not the definitive hypercar, the McLaren F1 was the first and the La Ferrari and P1 are more Hypercar than the Porsche is, the FRS isnt even close to a Golf GTi or Pug 205 GTi. aClio V6 could be the definitive mid engined hatchback silhouette made by Renault I suppose ........?
