[Graphic] I Was Gonna Do The Exhaust Spacer Mod...

Not much point when my opinion is disregarded due to my age / experience, but if you insist, here's a load of other people confirming my point.

Your point is 9/10 disregarded due to the way in which you word it. Age and experience have no meaning on this forum. Unless you act like a bellend. Then you get treated like a bellend.

I think you guys are being harsh. The guy explained himself many times, he deserves a 'reset', he hasn't done anything wrong in this thread, or before the other incident. Let's give him the benefit, eh? Cheers lads.

Right, I am going to be quite frank here but do take it in the right way.

There are members on here that are younger than you and have less experience but appear to not be 'disregarded' as you put it - why do you think that is? If every young owner on here was bullied or put down on their opinions then I would agree with you, additionally I wouldn't stand for it either and would be PM'ing them with some warnings/bans pronto. But that certainly hasn't been the case since I joined a fair few years ago now.

I read the original exhaust mod, despite people who have owned many performance cars over many decades giving honest opinion (note its opinion, not fact, but in the absence of fact that's what you have to live with...) you pushed it back at them in quite a condescending manner and it got progressively worse for all involved from there. Clearly you like chatting on the forum, you are keen to try stuff, but you need to get this chip off your shoulder about thinking people are out to prove you wrong because you are young/inexperienced. Its not a competition as to 'who is the smartest' on here - its about us all enjoying our cars and making the most of them.

And generally I've found people on here have respected and appreciated my input....

However, it was a controversial subject, and one that from a technical perspective (with all due respect) I think most people don't know much about. We can all make assumptions, and I tried to explain in the OP that I was aware of these and had given them consideration. However I'd looked into it in the past and spent hours researching it before making that thread, so again, with all due respect, I believe I knew more about the topic and my input was as valid if not more so than everyone else's.

I countered people's opinions because the research I'd done disproved people's points. The information I'd gathered was from more reliable and better qualified sources. Ideally I'd have quoted sources to backup my points, but I didn't keep a list and it would have taken ages.

Instead of accepting that maybe I knew what I was talking about, I received a barrage of insults, and although I'm not one to start attacking other people, I'm going to defend myself and my viewpoint If I think it's right. I'm open to someone proving me wrong, but it needs just that, proof (or at least some explanation / reasoning), not just someone telling me they know better than me just because they've been driving since before I was born.

There's a million things you will all know more about than me, but likewise, I probably know more about some stuff than the rest of you, and if I've taken the time to research something, i tend to go all out and really master the subject.

That being said, it's probably best not to get into it again, but I appreciate the comment nonetheless,

I thought it looked like exhaust putty around the sleeve and clamp area.

Maybe that's just how they installed it?

Bickering aside and back on topic.

The underside of your car is nasty (fox is the icing)! Id leave the fox for now until you can get underneath and do everything properly, looks like it will benefit from a general tidy up and some rust prevention.

As for exhaust, get saving for a replacement now lol. Cobra etc is reasonable

So, would just progressing your project and thanking people for their time whether you agreed with them or not, rather than setting about disproving people who had genuinely inputted into it, have made the outcome more favourable to both yourself and those posting? Its not a question I want answered just one that should perhaps be considered.

I am not going to get into a tit for tat on this - only as someone observing that thread and some others that also were contentious neither 'group' were an innocent party, there was no morale high ground to be held.

That's all I am really going to offer on this subject really, its a busy life as a mod on here

In theory there is supposed to be a lifetime warranty on the exhaust.

Appreciate that but if it wasnt them that performed that bodge they might wash their hands of it if someone else has tampered. Might also not transfer with the car to new owners etc.

So back on topic, I genuinely think from your description what you would like is either the Cobra or Miltek with HFCs (if you don't mind rasp)

I'd like an exhaust not covered in fox guts first

Would rather avoid rasp. I like deep rumbles (Subarus / big American V8)

(Not that loud for a daily though )

Will have to check with them and the previous owner.

Now that we're finally getting somewhere with this topic, Id like to offer my advice because like you I research heavily into modifications. I built my B18 engine myself, fully self taught.

The one overwhelming part that I've noticed with exhausts for 350zs is rasp, and this is where you really get what you pay for out of the box. I'll be honest ive been gobsmacked at how much a V6 can rasp. While various options like true duel, single exit and the like massively depend on the person at hand, if you want to avoid rasp you're going to have to put money into it.

Before I fitted my HFCs, I had a japspeed K2 Y pipe, centre pipe and backbox. Rasp was minimal, with a deep throaty burble on idle. Continuing through the range it remained consistent and even at WOT it wasnt droney. Upon fitting of japspeed HFCs, its changed the exhaust note massively. Town driving it sounds lovely, that real V6 worrble thats borderline skyline sound (imo just with boost) and I love it.

However, due to the increased flow and heat, at anything over 4K or WOT its become raspy as hell, Honda levels of rasp. An added issue ive encountered is possibly a design fault in mine, that the baffles rattle from resonance which we all know is horrible. Ive put this down to the fact that after HFCs, there are no baffles slowing it all down before it hits the backbox. From looking online and if money was on trees, Id purchase an Invidia gemini with ARK HFCs. These have a resonance chamber built on the side and although I appreciate that most recording devices aren't going to pick it up perfectly, near 0 rasp.

If you daily your z, I'd recommend the resonated cobra cat back, lovely tone and a few burbles  I'd replace the Y pipe too while you're at it.

I'm going decat after MOT though :teeth:

Good luck with your exhaust adventures, you won't regret getting hold of a decent system!

Both my V8 and my V6 cars are basically straight through piped and they sound NOTHING like each other, two completely different engines, you'll never get V8 burble sound from a Zeds V6 and when you decat it's gona get a whole lot more high pitched and raspy WOT. Doing a drive by in my V8 you can feel the noise vibrations going through you, and even managed to get a bollocking from people in houses as it rattles their windows  never had that effect from the Zed.

As your being selective about the sound / noise you want then I would suggest going down the cat back custom route or Y pipe back with a Stillen Y pipe. A good custom exhaust maker will be able to get you as close to the sound you are looking for.

I actually agree. I have almost zero rasp with stock cats from my 190 quid ebay special (like but not identical to the Japspeed k4), until the very top end under full load, when it almost sounds like a hammer smacking against an anvil. Love it. So chuffed with this exhaust for the money. Don't know what will happen when I HFC though.

This should be changed to "I was gonna do the exhaust spacer bodge"

Glad the exhaust itself has told you not to do it. As for the fox, I'd just leave it.

Won't it start to smell? Or will wild animals come lick it off for me?

Gloves, scraper, man pills.

But what if it touches me? :(

Yeah, I know I'll never get a V8 sound from a V6 (uneven firing pattern / no replacement for displacement ;)), and I don't want something that sounds fake, but I'd like similar features.

What's your V8 btw?

Having seen the bottom of your 350 the red bits reminded me of the bottom of my 350 :)

Could have at least used new bolts Keyser :stir: ............ ;) ...... THAT is a seriously meticulously engineered and cared for underside that's bordering on car porn  I like that but respect the effort that went into even more.
