bluecar Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hello all After lots of research and looking brought my new Z back at the end of June (private sale). Its a 2004 GM UK one with 82K and Rays Wheels, just what i was after. All was good and this was the best car ever until...... Ill explain from the start. Drove fine on the urban 10 mile test drive (of course) and for the first 10 miles or so of my ownership + no engine lights on dash. Then the intermitent misfires started, just for a couple of miles at a time at first but then got worse. New cam position sensor and plugs cured it for a good 60 miles or so before it came back. Again briefly at first but now become permanent and pretty much un-driveable! Just to add to my joy ive now got codes for p0300 multiple misfires and p0430 cat converter in-efficiency - great! So anyhow not giving up yet, going to try some coil packs as a next step - hopefully getting some of these from Chris at the Z-shed which is pretty close to me. So hello, I'd love to introduce myself on a more positive note but so far the journeys been the odd few miles of B road bliss, great V6 noise, power, handling (all as good as as i was hoping for) interspersed with a lot of frustration, swearing and very unpleasant V5 or V4 type noises!! At least it looks good sat on my drive, just have to put the fact it does'nt ******** work at the back of my mind! If this becomes an ongoing saga ill post a thread in the engine section, otherwise hope to say hello again once the cars on the road and I'm drifting my way sublimely round the wet autumn roads, V6 singing! modo Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Not a very good experience, I can imagine. Hope you get it sorted soon, then you can enjoy it. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk Quote
kbad Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hello and welcome I hope you get the Z sorted soon and start enjoying what is really a cracking motor Quote
GMballistic Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Try not to lose hope. I once bought a used JDM Impreza, researched them for months, used some mechanical knowledge I have etc pre sale but still I couldn't have known the oil pump would fail a month later whilst driving, taking the engine with it. These things happen when buying used cars sometimes but hopefully you'll get the Zed sorted soon so you can really enjoy it. Welcome aboard. Quote
bluecar Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 Thanks guys, yeah i guess the way to look at it is ive brought quite a few cars privately over the years, always research what im buying and up till now been OK. So perhaps this was bound to happen at some point. Quote
Humpy Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Never fear you have the zed shed near! How close are you then to them? Welcome btw. Quote
14N Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hello and You're in an enviable position of being close to the Zed Shed. But from your symptoms (and the fact you've already changed the CPS and plugs), I'd say it was a coil pack(s) breaking down. There seem to be quite a few doing this ATM (mine included). I think it's since we left the EU.... I hope you get it sorted soon (I'm sure you will) and can enjoy the car again. Quote
Andy_Muxlow Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hello and welcome along. I hope you get her sorted at a reasonable price buddy. Sent from my iPad using a hammer and chisel... Quote
GizmoGold Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I hope you have the Z fixed in no time! Quote
veilside z Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 The experience between Bob and Chris at the Z shed, should be able to help you buddy. Can you get the car to them? Quote
EcoFriendlyAL Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Hello and welcome. I too researched and found the ideal car, then the syncro on 4th gear went, plus the drivers side window motor. But I tell myself its just a car and it can be fixed, even though I begrudge the ££££££££s Quote
veeg33 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Hello and welcome Sorry to hear about your zed, hope you'll sort it out soon with minimum £££ Quote
Derbro Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Hello and Welcome. Sorry you having problems with your new purchase. When it's fixed it will pay you back many times over with lots of fun and grinning marathons. Quote
bluecar Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Fixed!!!!!!!!! this evening by Bob and Chris at the Zed Shed II. Massive thanks to those two guys, I'd sent Chris a pm earlier about getting some coil packs and he kindly offered to have a go at working out where the dodgy cylinder was. They identified the misfiring cylinder (No. 2) and a coil pack swap later I'm back on 6 cylinders. But it gets even better, after a tour of their fantastic garage and assorted cars and a proper chat about Zs etc, Bob showed me round to the back of my car where a Z shed sticker had 'magically appeared' on the back window- hows that for a bonus. So looking forward to finally getting out and really enjoying my new toy. PS. In answer to Humpy, I'm exactly 4.5 miles away from them, pretty lucky I know! 2 Quote
