  1. Some interesting reading there but I think its safe to say that probably the first thing you should buy is an oil temp guage then you'll know if you need an oil cooler or not. I was running up to 135degrees C on my last track day after just a few laps and I had to bring in the Zed to cool down so I reckon a thermostatic oil cooler is important to me if I want to do trackdays. But like the man says if your NA Zed is running less than 100degrees C on the track then I wouldn't worry. However I wouldn't discount the fact that high engine and high oil temps increases wear on your engine and ancillaries - getting the correct oil type for your driving style may also help. And no matter what anyone tells me I'm not about to rev the nads off my Zed at low oil temp - I would not have the confidence that the oil is doing its job correctly untill up to temp and I use high quality oils like Motul, Silkolene and occasionally (when I can't get anything else) Redline oils. I would have always been of the belief that if the oil is not at the correct working temp and surely therefore viscosity that you shouldn't be working the engine hard.
  2. .... It does attach directly on the the CF inlet - the bit you can see through the inlet in the second pic is the inside of the pipe..... Ahh - I can see that now - it looked to me like it was bypassing the inlet to lower down the bumper. Might make sense to attach it to the back of the CF inlet - maybe bond it on plus tie-bind/O ring clamp.
  3. You don't seem to be running the pipe from the CF inlet that you cut into your bumper? Would seem to me to make more sense to attach it directly off that surely?
  4. Very surprised to hear this if true as my V2 regularly rubbed off the road and multistorey car parks were def no go areas. The V1 I had on my previous Zed was better in this regard though I suppose the Tein coilovers I have on the present Zed aren't helping much with the ground clearance. Anyone else with the V2 have clearance issues over the standard bumper?
  5. Zed is lowered on Tein coilovers. Yep you loose the headlight washers - not a big job. The bumper is easy to remove - theres a few walkthroughs on the web but won't you need to get it to a bodyshop for spraying in any case? That CF lipped Nismo V2 copy looks fantastic - but the V2 is quite a low bumper esp when running on lowered suspension - I'd imagine it'd be tough keeping it in one piece. I still have my V2 copy sitting in the shed along with those canards - I prefer the Amuse I have on at the minute though its not as clean a look as the V2.
  6. Mine with a V2 (now have an Amuse shine copy).
  7. More likely to be a Rota copy with an aggressive offset - http://www.rarerims.co.uk/alloys_sub2.a ... &intPage=1 Similar rim in a Zed size - http://www.rarerims.co.uk/alloys_sub2.asp?id=73
  8. 245/40 on the front and 275/40 on the rear presuming you are running 18's. Nice rims for the money - Lets see some pics when you get the rims on.
  9. I fitted the PF rotors (and DS2500 pads) from Alex recently and ran them on a trackday and the difference over my standard rotors (with 80% Endless Pads) was quite remarkable. Fantastic upgrade for the Zed and well worth the money.
  10. I knew there was a reason I'd never attempt this job myself. Fair dues for trying though.
  11. Evo, CAR and then Jap Performance/Banzai (depending on whats featured). CAR was a fab mag back in the 80's but its never really recovered to those heights - I still have most of my CAR mags dating from circa 1984 onwards. Its amazing to think what was once considered a supercar wouldn't see what way a Zed went these days. 200bhp was big big power back then.
  12. Looks like they got the colour code wrong for a start. Even taking into account that silver is tough to blend - I bet they went with the GM code rather than the Blade silver code - it'd be the first question that I'd ask.
  13. Kinda reminds me of the guy who showed me the lines around Mondello a couple of weeks back. What are the chances of an Irish track day in Mondello for the UK Zed club? - would make for a cracking road trip. Heres a line up a a few Zeds in Mondello a couple of years back -
  14. Used to happen on a couple of FTO's I owned - good safety feature on a cold engine - esp one that requires high revs (my FTO span to 8250prm). Didn't know that it was ever a feature on the Zed though from looking at how long it takes for the engine oil to reach temp (oil temp gauge/not water temp gauge peeps) I'd always be very careful about revving the engine while cold.
  15. Good stuff - and nice to see you are chasing chassis mods like suspension and brakes over power mods like turbo/SC which would all be quite useless without sorting the other bits first. What'd'ya mean my vortech is noisy? You have heard your exhaust - right?
  16. I had the same skirts and rear bumper on my last Zed and I added a V2 copy (with CF blade)- Those side skirts are very low - I was always getting caught out in car parks.
  17. Will do, Steady Zeddy has a kazz and it's not making any noise... (That I could hear anyway) think it's a 1.5 way though not sure re 80% lock either (sounds pretty high) Yip - Anders drove my Zed with the Kaaz and as he says its hard to tell it even has an aftermarket diff and its a Kaaz 1.5 way with a 80% lockup. I got the extra fitment to change the Kaaz to 1.5 way (it comes 2 way) to make it more driveable on the road. The Kaaz is my favorite mod so far - it really came into its own at a recent 1/4 mile and trackday but you really need to have a use for it to bother with fitting it - it'll make you look like a driving god on track but on the road in day to day driving you might as well not have it - you'll rarely ever get to notice it on the roads and if you do, well then - you're driving too fast!
  18. Grand for getting the tail out (and no doubt it'll be fun as long as it holds up) but in the main you'll stuff up your handling - hard to beat a good diff for distributing the grip.
  19. Welcome along. The Zeds are fun to track out of the box but what I found works best for a track set-up is (in no particular order) - Coilovers (I run Teins), uprated ARBs (I use Nismo), Diff (I've a Kaaz), trackday tyres on lightweight rims (I like the R888s), brakes (standard brembos are ok but the addition of something like Performance friction discs and uprated pads are most useful). If you're still feeling flush and you're looking for more power theres always FI be it a turbo or Supercharger (I run a Vortech SC at 420bhp) - theres plenty of build threads on here which will give you some ideas. My own personal opinion is that if you are running a stock block then SC is the way to go and if your block is built then a turbo is your only man. Obvious additions to the FI build would be an oil/PS cooler and perhaps a diff oil cooler as well - things will get hot on track. Last and not least loose as much weight as you can (from the car and I suppose the driver too). Loose the junk in your trunk - spare wheel, tools etc. The standard seats are very heavy ( I'd like to loose mine at some stage for a more supportive & lighter seat) and if you were really intent on being a track day warrior then you could loose some of the multiple airbags, air con, ICE etc and fit a roll cage - cut off switch and add a fire extinguisher. I think thats enough of a shopping list to be getting on with.
  20. I think your options are limited if you don't already have the viscous lsd pumkin. I reckon the Quaife is probably the best way to go in this instance - less work to install/set-up - I'm sure someone like Adam in Z1 would have the most experience in suggesting a diff for an non-lsd Zed.
  21. Well wear - I'd be very interested to hear your opinions on a back to back drive in both.
  22. I've run 18's and 19's at similar profiles and offsets. With above measurements I reckon you'll get rubbing on the rears when the rear springs compress under load (bumps etc). Arch rolling is not a big job and will run this offset easily - and it will look the dogs danglies.
  23. I also have a spare side skirt but its in silver. On the plus side its in Ireland so you could have it very cheap if you picked it up yourself.
  24. Those aren't Rota Grids though - they're GTR's. I have grid drifts (offset of 18) on my track wheels (with R888's) and for the money they're hard to beat -
  25. I did it on both my Zeds - I figure there can't be any harm in adding more cold air to the filter area - esp as its not a straight run so there's no water ingress. First Zeds CAI on a standard bumper to a popcharger (& Kinetix plenum to RSR exhaust) - Present Zeds CAI on an Amuse front to the Supercharger induction -
