  1. Are you saying you had no idea what the oil level is/was, so just kept chucking oil in?! Too much oil is worse than not enough in most cases. By the way, by the time the low oil light comes on your engine has suffered damage of some kind, so I'd be looking for a replacement or repair of your sooner rather than later.
  2. Agreed. Tapatalk is now redundant, given how far web design for mobiles and screen displays have come on in the last five years.
  3. M96/97 engine failure is nowhere near as common as you might think. Get an early car with plenty of miles on, then have a boroscope check done. Plenty of miles means that if the IMS hasn't gone by now then it's very unlikely to, and if the boroscope check doesn't show any scoring then you're safe there too. I'd be looking for a decent 3.4 with over 100k on the clock, if it were my money. Leaves plenty of cash to add a good exhaust, stereo and wheels, which would then leave you with an eminently driveable and pure car.
  4. XKR is a BIG car too! TTRS is a monster, we're talking GT-R quick. Not massively involving, but entertaining as hell.
  5. Use CHAPS, not BACS. Sure it costs a couple of quid, but it's nothing really and no upper limit.
  6. None at all I'm afraid, but I'd take a Twingo over an Abarth. No idea why, I just would.
  7. It's an excellent handling car, but trust me, it may not feel big, but it is. Not something I'd want the other half trying to squeeze into a Tesco parking space. Agreed. Mine doesn't actually feel much different in size on the road than my old 911, but when I tried to fit it in the garage the other week I quickly realised it does a very good job of hiding it's size! Since I've installed the bucket seat and by doing so lowered the seating position, I'm having to learn how to place the nose on corner entry again. I'll have to lift the seat back up I think when I get the Recaros in there.
  8. You already have a RR car, might as well get another
  9. All 996 cars have at least a spoiler that rises at approx 75mph and lowers at 30mph built into the rear deck, the GT3 had a fixed wing and the Turbo a more traditional style motorised spoiler.
  10. Good shout, but if an M6 is too big then so is the QP I'd say.
  11. Just get a 911. It's different enough that at least you can tick the box to say you've had one, if you don't like it after a month then you're not going to lose any money on one if you need to sell it, and it's an easy car for the other half to bumble around in. Just don't do what some people do and buy one without getting an inspection, as a couple of hundred quid is peanuts to pay for peace of mind.
  12. You'd have thought so, wouldn't you? Even when I left it open, some were convinced it was a conversion I just sat near by, listening to the various conversations whilst getting tanked on stubbies. Great weekend!
  13. I once took my old 350 to JAE, but I went with IMOC the MR2 club as I had some friends I wanted to hang out with for the weekend. They didn't really want a 350 hogging the limelight, so asked me to park it on the corner of the stand. Of course I complied, but not before sticking a very rough hand-written cardboard sign in the windscreen that I'd scribbled on in black marker pen: MR2 WITH 350Z BODYKIT You would not believe the amount of people that spent the weekend crawling over and under the car to see if it was true or not
  14. In theory, the only issue you'll get is that the battery won't last anywhere near as long as the car will constantly be trying to overcharge it. I'd always, always code a new battery as soon as possible.
  15. Correct. The theory being that airbags are needed to keep casualties down, so you must have them. However, that then means that rally cars cannot drive between stages, never mind that it would cause a lot of problems going forward with regards to grassroots motorsports, so they deliberately left a get out in. To me, it's the right thing to do, although it makes life awkward for those of us that don't like a gigantic thick rimmed wheel with no feel to steer our cars with.
  16. Probably not enough to get past on the extensively modified for track rule then
  17. I'm in Halstead, just round the corner! Will keep an eye out for you, if a bright orange 645 waves don't be surprised!
  18. A diesel convertible??!! Man card at the door, please.
  19. You should always tell them you've changed the steering wheel, and if they ask if it has an airbag then tell them that too. Otherwise, as long as you've told them then that's their problem. Going back to the OP, how modified is your car? If it's just wheels, a roof wrap and a steering wheel then they were right to fail it. If it's stripped inside, bucket seats and 888s, then they should've passed it.
  20. P9, section 5. Extensively modified vehicles would pass regardless of having a steering wheel with airbag or not. Like I said, find a different station.
