  1. too easy, I knew you'd bite
  2. Keep away from the turbo (coolant pipe leak) and the air suspension (frightfully expensive to replace), and they're as reliable as anything else that age. It also doesn't have any tricky hybrid systems to go wrong...
  3. put Porsche badge on anything and you would drive it That's because they're the best
  4. Never driven the Lexus, but I'd be amazed if it was even close to an X5/6, much less the Cayenne.
  5. But we're not talking about killing people whilst driving, we're talking about speeding. Would you want to be penalised the same for doing 80 in a 70 as for doing 40 in a 30? Or sticking with percentages, doing 93 on a motorway? Do you think that's the same risk to person or property as 40 past the school at kicking out time? I don't see it is. Personally I think all limits apart from 30mph ones should be abolished, and dangerous driving prosecuted for often. Sooner or later, someone will say "But this is legal in Germany!", and they'd be right. People aren't dying every time someone does more than twice the limit there, so speed on its own is not inherently dangerous. I for one am glad that courts are not looking at things in a strict light, but neither do we have anywhere close to all the facts on this case.
  6. If the CPS are only going to prosecute for speeding, then the punishments should be suited for that crime. Tbh, I'd much rather see circumstances at the time taken into account rather than outright speed. 150mph on a motorway at 2am in a car of good condition being driven attentively by an experienced driver should get less than someone doing 35mph past a school at 3pm.
  7. Cayenne, wouldn't even consider anything else. It'll do cruising, it'll do comfort, it'll do prestige, and it'll do being flung around should you ever get the opportunity.
  8. It's the Russians. Or Trump. Or both.
  9. So what's the catch? I mean, what's in the small print: Does the cam have to be of a certain recording quality, must it have sound, does it even have to be turned on?! If you could post up the section in the documents that makes reference to the cam, I'd love to take a look as this seems on face value to be too good to be true. I'm sure it's not, AXA aren't silly, but this could be a real step forward for everyone in lowering costs.
  10. They'll all have a DPF of that age, yeah. A couple of short drives once a week will be absolutely fine, but you'll have to remember to take it for a high speed blast to clear the DPF.
  11. If you like having a clutch and drivetrain in general, ignore 0-60 times. A HR is significantly more fun than a DE due to the extra revs available, not the power.
  12. If you're only doing short trips, then you can't get a diesel. Are you?
  13. Just get ADSL from whoever you're going to get fibre from. Sign up, then when fibre is available just upgrade I did this with BT when I moved into my new place, got 16 days worth of ADSL before they activated my fibre connection.
  14. Does the EE one have an Ethernet socket too? If so then just grab a regular router and plug that into it, then use that instead. Benefit means you can also use this when you eventually get proper BB installed too Is adsl not available?
  15. How can you damage metal threads with a plastic cap  You might have knackered the cap itself by cross threading, but tbh you'd have had to have been spectacularly ham fisted to do so.
  16. Geez, that's a lot of car for the cash!
  17. What did you fix it down with in the end?
  18. For £300, who cares? If it lasts you two months then it was worth it. Do it! Don't over think it, that's not what shedding is! Buy with your heart!
  19. Again, I'd go with a petrol 545i or even an RS6 with the 4.2TT lump in! Both will come in well under budget (the latter by a couple of grand, the former by half) which leaves you plenty of cash to take care of any issues that crop up. Both will be a billion times more exciting than the diesel version, and even if you don't need the handling there's a lot to be said to have something with that much poke and with that gorgeous noise Lowish miles aren't a requirement for these kinds of car, as they're premium so were designed to last. You're actually more likely to get issues with a diesel that barely breaks sweat than with a solid petrol car that's been used but looked after. Buy on condition, not on mileage. Servicing will be the same regardless of fuel type, just stick to specialists rather than main dealers. It would be nice to have something special rather than just another dull barge, don'tcha think?
  20. Tbh, it depends on what you want the car for. Do you want to waft, or do you want to drive? Who cares what everyone else says, it's your money. ST or Impreza will be miles more fun, 535 or A6 a nicer place to be inside. Personally I'd look for a petrol V8 version of the latter two and split the difference, but I may be a tad biased...

I use FK1000P on all mine, and definitely put it on before you mount the tyres.
  22. BMW paint is typically Germanic in nature, by which I mean it's reasonably tough stuff. You'd have a hard time doing any damage to it with the kit above, although it's not impossible if you're especially ham-fisted and more than a bit reckless. I'm talking running a hard pad against an edge for about 10 mins, rather than in general usage though!
  23. I can't comment on the quality of the pads, but that's pretty much the exact same set of polishes I keep as my go-to set (I'll use S30 rather than S40, but we're splitting hairs here). I also used to use a DAS6 when I first started, and it's a solid piece of kit. The Scholl stuff is highly recommended as it contains no fillers, so the finish you see once wiped clean is the finish you end up with. That's about as good a kit as I've seen for sale. Add one of each of these pads to it, and you'll have a quality set able to tackle most things that a DA machine can.
  24. The correct answer is that on a brand new car, you can take your car anywhere to be serviced as long as they use OEM-quality parts, without affecting your warranty. That is enshrined in European law.
