Fast road/Track 350z 3.7ltr HR built
RobPhoboS replied to 350Butcher's topic in Member Build Projects
Ooooh VERY nice ! Have you got a build thread ? or are you like me I'd love to know more about it ! Please keep it up, and I think perhaps I should start my own one, not that it can hold a candle to this one ! In regards to your geo, what have you got it set to now (with all of the SPL parts on), and how would you describe the handling traits whilst on track. My car feels extremely neutral, it only seems to understeer once the fronts are hot, and only seems to oversteer if I'm on the power too early. Which reminds me, before I start on the engine I want a nice diff ! (ffs) You've gotten me thinking about buying a donor engine and rebuilding that over time. I guess it'll initially be more expensive but I could sell my old one or keep it for spares. I can see the benefit of doing this, I just have to wait a while to sort GF visa stuff out. Where did you end up buying your one from out of curiosity? I can't afford to do a monster build but just getting a bit more out of it would be cool. I seem to remember that it's the top of my DE engine that requires more work rather than the guts of it. So I guess a larger NWP throttle body/intake pipe to match + maybe a redesigned plenum intake (I remember the one on the US forum). -

Always too much for me to catch up with on her ! Thanks for always sharing, unlike me - I'm rubbish ! I've not done the outer tie rods yet, sounds like a worth while purchase. As you know I've done nearly all of the other suspension parts to SPL spherical bushings too, I guess it makes sense to get that as well. Donor engine ? Which reminds me... I need to do the flipping timing chain soon, and er I should also get on with pulling the engine and fixing the oil burning issue...as well as slinging some nicer cams and long tubes in. Oh and the brake ducts. and some other stuff -
Meister R - GT1 coilovers review - UPDATED 2018 ver
RobPhoboS replied to RobPhoboS's topic in Suspension
A cool, interesting development on this with MR. I'll be back again soon, probably with a new thread. -
It took him quite some time, iirc about 12 hours! He cut away part of the floor and put a flattened and shaped piece back in. I'm surprised it fits, and only just! Great seat though, I love it.

Meister R - GT1 coilovers review - UPDATED 2018 ver

Right, I need to get some photos up as it's been some time since I posted on this! I still love these, and they're staying on! Although I'm sending one back for a refurb as it started leaking some time ago, and I just didn't have the time to send it back. I've done quite a few track days in them, and they're still great for me. I'm still learning the car, and it's far more capable than I am. Tuition for the new year for sure (doubtful I can do any over winter, and the car needs some attention). The emails with Meister R have always been good regardless of my planky questions, good to have friendly customer service. Back soon with the rebuilt shock. -
Oh crikey, sorry I didn't see this! I gave up and took it to a professional
-
Thanks guys! The car is a little neglected at the moment, needs some autumn love.

Neil's track day 350Z build (in orange)
RobPhoboS replied to vroom811's topic in Member Build Projects
I've not watched your videos yet but I sub'd, as I like to watch any channel working on the Z. What are your intentions for the car, as in how far are you going and what sort of budget are you aiming at ? (apologies if you've stated it in the vid and already a track god!) I can see at the moment it looks like you are rectifying logical, broken/old bits and pieces. There are a few things I'd happily chip in with my 2p's worth (as I track my ageing motor) that I would have done differently to save time/money. -
Great to hear about how the car has shaped up ! I know chassis wise we're quite similar, and I have to agree about how the car turns and does what you're asking it to. At Anglesey a few weeks back I did manage to get a tiny bit of understeer, however I think that was several laps in and just me turning in too hard (just Pilot Sport 4). Your car sounds pretty brutal from your account, haha almost like 500/550 hp would have been enough

Proper Wash Guide + Add Your Favourite Detailing Products

I'm liking Auto Finesse Glisten Spray Wax. I've started using that over BSD, simply as it's easier to wipe off and seems to keep the black fairly deep on my car. -
My headlights still look good btw (aside from the sanding marks heh). So even if I had to do this a few times a year I don't mind

I had my gearbox rebuilt by Sly at Kaizer a few months ago, they did a great job and were clear with what was wrong in my case (baulk rings, lost 5th and nearly reverse). Hopefully it's not gearbox apart time for you but... If you end up going down that route, I can give 2 thumbs up for them
-
Sounds like the flywheel to me. They're noisy anyway ! You should hear my one (JWT single mass) - its like a cement mixer A clunk could be the throw-out bearing I guess, and for sure more noise would be present from a transmission mount like that. Once again my car does it as all of the mounts in the drive-line have been uprated.
-
Suggestion is to record the sound and upload a video to youtube for us to hear. Are you noticing problems with the clutch slipping or is it simply just a noise that's recently developed ? (are you a new owner ?)

Still going strong mate ! I shall take some photo's on the weekend. The discs are looking great, zero lip on them too which I'm really surprised about ! I've diligently switched between track pads and the street pads, it's barely worn the pads which I'm impressed with. I'd definitely advise this route to anyone wanting to upgrade their standard setup. When it comes to another set of road pads I'd gladly use them again or look at some Hawk pads just to try another set.
-
Definitely ! (+ me, pretty sure I'm decatted too)

As mentioned I'm with Millers CFS 5-40, and after around 1000 miles including a track day it's used around 1ltr. Which is less than the previous oils I used (all 5w 30 Mobil 1, Fuchs Titan XTR & GT1, Shell Helix Ultra, Motul 8100 Eco-nergy). So I'm sticking with Millers but will try the 10w 50 next time. I also don't think it's been quite as smokey but it's still smelly

Fast road/Track 350z 3.7ltr HR built
RobPhoboS replied to 350Butcher's topic in Member Build Projects
Awesome, I really look forward to seeing what you come up with ! I've saved a few examples from the US forum, and there is some corvette ducting that might help the first part too (I found it on ebay - naturally). We did the coastal layout, so yes we got the corkscrew ! Which was soooo cool, like a mini Laguna Seca but with a far more interesting and stunning view :) Yep, once it was pulled I tried to just build the speed up but realised that it's actually very progressive (at least in my hands/feet) and very enjoyable. No brake problems for me either, the day flirted with some heat but ultimately pretty cool and breezy so zero issues with braking. I thought of the Kaaaaaa44aaaAAAaaaz ('quiet'), yeah I thought about an FD as well. Need another job with better pay ! How about you, what did you go for again ? -

If you do make a load of ducting for the brakes, please do post up a bunch of pics for what you've done ! I did Anglesey on Sunday, wowza - great place and started to get the hang of it towards the end of the day. No issues with brakes this time for me (especially after pulling the correct fuse - ) but I remember last year on a hot day at Snett I cooked the fluid a bit. Pads have been excellent ! (RC5+) Diff and AD08R's next (hopefully). -
I'd avoid the e92 unless you know the bearings have been uprated.
-
A couple of months late (apologies) but I just wanted to say thanks again for the very speedy supply of the JWT clutch and flywheel kit! (that Kaizer Motor fitted whilst rebuilding my gearbox) The flywheel (I'm presuming) is very chattery but the whole lot feel excellent and nicer to drive with now.

It's brilliant checking this out ! I'd be worried about the foam filters getting sucked into it though

ABS/TC/SC pink fuse pull - car won't start?
RobPhoboS replied to RobPhoboS's topic in 350Z Technical
Yep, wrong fuse! Once you do pull the fuse, when the car is moving will the lights for abs etc come on. I had the weird brake thing happening on the steep incline and declines sections at Brands. It's not done this before on other circuits. -
I've had my one on for 2 years, after a few months the weird low ducatti type noise goes. The only thing I get sometimes is a weird resonance vibration at 2500-3000 rpm when coming off of the throttle at around 45-50mph. Although since Kaizer did the new clutch/flywheel I've not noticed it.
