KUGT4
ariel need removing? door windows need retracting? etc
GMballistic
Never!! I'd say brain need's removing first. Seriously though I'd only ever hand wash my car but if you have to or want to use an automatic car wash that's up to you as it's your Zed. I'd make sure it's a soft bristle brush one you're using though first and yes, remove the aerial.
ioneabee
so you've got millions of firm bristles slapping down on soft japanese paint at several hundred rpm just one question - why would you want to do that ?
KUGT4
needs must - no spare time before mot - work etc

KyleR
then go to a manned carwash. Those auto things tear your paint to pieces!
ioneabee
rather - use one of the supermarket petrol station pressure spray - no contact is best
GMballistic
It's better off being dirty haha.... This tbh. Less damaging to your paintwork.
Bems
Never never never ever ever use one. Especialy on soft zed paint, it's really not worth it.

brillomaster
yep, quite like my local sainburys car wash! i cant be arsed washing it myself, i'd rather spend the time driving it. occasionally take it to a local (ish) handwash place, but most times its straight through the automated one. Don't do it I wouldn't even do it with any car tbh. A - Exspensive B - Damage. I have a polish car wash 5 mins from my house, then there's another 5 mins from that, another 5mins from that etc, there everywhere. They get the job done all in 10minutes. All for £5. If you really are bothered about your car looking good bud, do it right I can understand and feel for you not having time etc, I've had many occasions like that, that's when I go to the Polish. Stutopia
For a super basic and quick, (but better than paint whipping machine) wash. Three quarter fill bucket with 3 splodges of car shampoo and water Mitt for body and glass Mitt for wheels only Hose to rinse your mitt every few passes Hose to sheet rinse the car at the end Start at the top, work down. 20 minutes for a quick job. It'll be better than the machine in both finish and damage level, even with just one bucket :scare: If you can spare 15 further minutes, use proper two bucket method and towel or micro-fibre dry after sheet rinse. Treat her to a quick detailer - wipe on wipe off Daniel-San. If time pressure is your enemy, I'd wager in most towns this'll be quicker than a drive to see Mr Handjob, get serviced and the drive home
HEADPHONES
Like you, I'm finding I don't have those quality 1-3 hour detailing sessions anymore. Lots of great time saving stuff out now. Try Citrus Power degreaser by AutoFinesse. Meant to be a pre wash, but if time is lacking. Go to the garage. Spray on. Leave 5 mins to dwell. Jet wash off. Car will look 95% clean! See the effects on a White Ibiza on this thread with just the above on page 2 of this thread. No touch at all http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=330362&page=2. As for sealants when you do manage a proper wash. Carpro HydrO2. Wash car. Rinse. Spray HydrO2 on wet car. Rinse off. DONE. No "Mr Miyagi" wax on...wax off! BulletMagnet
I don't use auto-wash cos of: - aftermarket front lip - deep dish wheels - aftermarket sideskirts - aftermarket rear spats - lowered vehicle - CF bonnet (that i have spent way too much time restoring to have hard bristles ruin it) - vinyl wrapped roof Edited February 14, 2014 by BulletMagnet
andysmee
From someone who has a life and so doesn't have time to wash it myself, the only problem I've had is the rear windscreen wiper. It got caught by a roller the last time I went through and bent right back. So I'd stick to hand car washes in future, they just take a bit longer waiting around
glrnet
Please do NOT do this
