leightonjames Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hey everyone, Plasti-dip is something which i've heard quite a lot of people talkingabout so I thought I'd give it a go. I was so pleased, I thought I'd do a quick post to show my handy work over the last hour. I decided to plasti-dip the rear boot strut cover as it was fairly damaged. Here's the pics showing each layer. It's £10 a can and that can manage 5-10 square feet of spray. I've started with this but am hoping to perhaps dip my wheels and any damaged interior trim soon... Anyways gets the tried and tested from me! Cheers Leighton Quote
ATTAK Z Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Looking good - did you mask the 'Z' ? Quote
MITZ@CougarStore Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Leighton, that looks excellent... Quote
ph 7 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 On my list of things to do. Looks great. Quote
DoogyRev Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Looks Great Looking good - did you mask the 'Z' ? As its plasti dip, you can just cut round it after and peel it off Quote
leightonjames Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Thanks for the comments! Attak - I had to use a scalpel around the letters as the groove isn't quite deep enough for it to peel by itself but on most things it peels off cleanly without needing to cut Quote
HEADPHONES Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Very nice......looks like a proffessional finish Quote
Tinyflier Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I did mine a few months ago but I left my "Z" in black - Plastidip really does do what "it says on the tin" and is so easy to use. David Quote
LRF4N Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Where did you guys buy it? Everytime I look online black is out of stock Quote
jjt Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Where did you guys buy it? Everytime I look online black is out of stock ebay Quote
Paddy78 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Where can you buy it for £10... I paid £16 for my can! Quote
leightonjames Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 I got it from here, but watch out for vat and postage, that does bring it to 16 but buy 5 and it works out pretty cheap compared to 1. Quote

Stutopia Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 This looks like the solution to my scratched dash pieces, I thought it would cost me hundreds to solve, Jurassic Park! Do you need to prep bits before a spray? Other than a good clean? Quote
leightonjames Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 No prepping aside from cleaning and drying thoroughly! Then watch some videos on youtube by dipyourcar for tips. Just spray evenly for at least 4 coats, with 15-20 minutes between Quote
Stutopia Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Nice one, thanks. I see they sell a primer and glossifier too, might not be a bad idea for my dash bits as it's a high traffic area! Quote
FUG Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Thanks for the comments! Attak - I had to use a scalpel around the letters as the groove isn't quite deep enough for it to peel by itself but on most things it peels off cleanly without needing to cut Would knocking it a bit with putting stuff in the boot etc necessarily scratch the dip off or is it a bit more resilient then that?? Quote
leightonjames Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 FUG - I'm not sure, I never use my (excuse for a) boot! It depends how careful you are I guess. Should withstand a bit of knocking but if you're going to abuse it then it will get damaged. Of course, you can always just peel it off and spray it again! Cheers Quote
Fluke Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Has anyone used plasti dip on their centre console? Quote
