first thing i do when i get the alfa will be the dpf delete a remap and the emc turned off should see 260 bhp and over 500 nm or torque and still get over 50 mpg on a long drive. and average 41 mpg

are you filling both up once a week? i do 12 k a year and fill up about 1 or 2 times a month?

so between the 2 cars how many miles are you clocking up?

i went to a toyota garage once where the junior mechanic lifted the front bonnet on my mr2 to check the engine; you should have seen the look of suprise on his face when there was no engine there it was a good garage but i did ask to make sure the chief mech was the only one to work on it.

wouldn't say its the last of the hairy chest sports cars, the 370 just came out, bmw run a v8 in a 3 series, merc run several big engines, so does alfa, aston and ferrari. i think it will be a classic in the respects of something like the spitefire or mg midget was, but not in the respects of say a ferrari dino.

just fit the correct size tyre for the wheel; replace like for like witrh the OEM wheels. if you want more rubber, buy bigger wheels.

it clears things up when you do the maths, i worked out that a complete car swap from performance to diesel will save me 1250.00 a year in fuel alone. and that was working on the average MPG's not the max figures etc. complete swap yes; shed = pointless

am aware of the 2.4 fuel economy, but also have that sorted. i know what causes the difference and how to fix it

i know the 335d is the faster car, but there is something about the brera that i love, i love the interior on it, the key, the badge, the rear end. the bm is the better performer, but the alfa is the better looker.

oooooh i like the look of this thread. apparently for engines alone the BMW dervs are menat to be very good on mpg and performance, the 320, 330, and 335 are supposed to be good guessing the same for the 5 series as well. i'm looking at the alfa brera 2.4 diesels similiar spec etc to the 159 2.4 if you need a saloon. i love the audi a5 v6 diesel, but its out fo my budget at about 15k up. great looks 4wd and a big diesel lump.

5w30 gets up to temp quicker in the cold as its not as thick;

depends on the mileage i suppose, if you do big mileage then a shed probably will save money, but for me the mileage isnt high enough to make enough of a saving. by the time you add on tax mot etc its a fraction of a saving for 12k a year. swapping completely to derv is the only way for me.

due to escalating costs and new responsibilities i'm looking at moving into derv land. i cant run a shed as i don't have space for a third car in the family, am already looking at giving up the garage to setup the new business in. and parking 2 cars on an already crowded road is a no go. secondly if i did have a shed, i'd never drive it, couldn't see the point if the nice car was parked there i'd always take the nice car. so the shed then becomes a pointless lawn ornament. with the likely hood of 1.50 a litre by easter and the possible saving of over a grand a year compared to my currently petrol car it looks like i will have to downsize for a bit. if things take off and i get a bit flush i might re consider. especially as the more expensive petrol gets the cheaper performance cars will get. might do what i did with the zed is ride diesel for a while wait for prices to plummet then buy when its at the bottom. i saved a bundle buying the zed when i did and i sold for a small loss compared to todays resale price of the zed. i reckon in 18 months 2 years they'll be a nice saving to be had on big lump petrol cars compared to today; as dealerships and private sellers will struggle to shift them.

go in eyes wide open; check everything, and then check it all again when you collect. check the tyres are legal, there was talk that they showed the car with good tyres on; then swapped them onto another car and put crap ones on the the car you buy. check all parts, panel gaps and history if you can. double check any warranty you have with them and any conditons on the purchase. they are well known for being alright with the sale, but then if there is a problem they don't want to know and basically fob you off till you get bored. apparently one of the sales men is a complete tool but the others are ok. they do get good cars in; mine ende dup there when they must have bought it at auction. but they are also known for getting in some absolute turds that they polish and then punt. like i said eyes wide open

i remember mark saying when we fitted his AP calipers that he spoke to someone possibly a rep or something that had said the reds actually weren't as good as stock pads, and that yellow was better and blue better still (blue is a race pad) greens are great for smaller cars with less weight and BHP but for the zed not up to it.

go yellow or blue, red is worse than stock
