  1. Its been a while since I looked at the zeds calipers, so look at a few pix online, but I think that small circle bit above the bit you mention is where the brake nipple is. If I remember correctly (and I may be wrong) the zed`s calipers have 2 brake nipples - one each side. You can see the other side one in the pic. They are usually in very tight so you will not be able to get it out with cutting a slot & using a screw driver. May have to drill it out and re-thread it. Garages are used to that kind of thing, so it shouldnt be much work. On the plus side, if the fluid llooks fine and brake feel is okay then I wouldnt worry about it just yet.
  2. One of the headlamps on my mini was very cloudy and worn out. I got reasonable results from the macquires headlamp restoring kit. It comes with a polisher mop you can stick in your cordless drill as well as all the abrasive compounds etc.
  3. Good spot, looks like the outer brake nipple is broken off in that picture, so you will have fun drilling that out and fitting a new nipple. Rainbow brake discs normally mean they have overheated. Odd how that has only just happened after 7 months of use though. Id be tempted to fit new discs and get some which will work fine with the red stuff pads. Ive not use red stuff pads before, but id be checking if they are okay for your use etc and if not get something else. Id also check the pistons are moving freely in the caliper etc. Brake fluid should be changed every couple of years anyway and it isnt (normally) an expensive job to do. The biggest problem is nipples can snap off, which incurs more labour cost for the garage to fix, but usually you can feel an improved brake pedal feel afterwards. Brake fluid wont have caused your disc to change colour though.
  4. Welcome! Firstly, congratulations on joining the forum. This is a friendly place and lots of people here to help you with any advice etc you may need. Its a buyers market atm so my advice would be to take your time, shop around, look at a few cars and dont let your heart rule your head. Familiarise yourself with the various models, options etc, costs, problems etc. Oh, and check the insurance before you buy!
  5. Very true. Once they see it`s been in an accident (even if only cosmetic) people start thinking the worst. Places to advertise, well I have always sold my cars on ebay. I put them up 99p start with no reserve and it will always fetch the market price. I always check before hand what the sold prices are so I know what to expect and if im happy with what the market says its worth then on it goes. Downside is that you do get the usual muppets offering you £100 etc but I just ignore them. Last car I sold, bidding got to £2000 with a few days left and one prospective bidder came out, viewed the car and gave me £2600 cash for it. The ebay fees are high, but I think are cheaper than autotrader etc...
  6. Looks good. When I bought my HR Roadster it was in the March time and I remember we still had frost. Still, I had the roof down nearly every time I drove it unless it was raining. You can stick he heaters on nice & warm and drive along in a bubble of warm air. You will have loads of fun!
  7. What a bummer. Talk about bad timing. Still, you have got all the bits on it ready for painting. Personally I think its a great price, but the market for a buyer will be slim, especially for someone happy to buy a car needing painting, not to mention this time of year. I would say get it painted first, but then there didnt seem to be much interest before hand when it didnt need the painting. I take it you have advertised it in the usual places as well as on here?
  8. If its knocked the alignment out then double check it hasn't bent any of the suspension components too.
  9. For me, looking back, things like the "selfie" (which i still do not understand why people want to take pictures of themselves for) seems to jump out. "Social media" becoming more prominent with people being so called "influencers" or whatever. Fake news also. That seems to be more of a thing now, although I guess its always been there, but maybe now people are being more aware of it. Political stuff seems to have been prominent too - like Trump getting in, Russia hitting the headlines more, plus all the UK political stuff which has happened over the last 10 years. From a personal level its been quite an eventful decade. I started it working as a labourer getting £50 for a 10 hour day having been made redundant from my normal line of work. My Girlfriend dumped me. I had lost all my life savings due to an Icelandic bank collapsing and my car had broken down. Not much else could have gone wrong really. But over the last 10 years, I met my wife, got a decent job again, bought a new house, had 2 kids, bought a 911 turbo, had house extended massively and things couldnt be more different to how they were at the start of the decade. On a negative side, all my hobbies & interests were put on hold back since getting married, i've only been able to socialise with my friends about 3 times since, i've a lot more grey hairs and im wondering "is this it?".
  10. I dont know what they normally cost, but I think thats a great price! You would have to make sure it was seriously tied down though, and I would strongly recommend putting a concrete base down or some slabs if there isnt a solid base already.

    MPS4s

MPS4S`s are awesome. I got 25,000 miles out of mine on the 911 turbo and promptly replaced them with the same.
  12. As above. Last few cars the wife has had have all been on PCP. You speak to the PCP company, they give you an up-to-date settlement value, which you pay and the car is now free of PCP and all paid for. Its been a really easy process each time.
  13. Very odd when last year they snapped my hand off and were cheaper than all the other companies. Still, ive long since given up on "insurance company logic".
  14. That's a bit worrying when you are not 100% sure where the supercharger oil went, as you will always be a bit nervous that it might happen again once you fit the replacement supercharger. Shame about the zed pop but depending upon how much money you have tied up in it and storage space you can always mothball it for a few years. That's what I did with my Renault 5 GT Turbo back in about 2003. I dragged it out in 2013 and did some work on it, but due to lack of time its been wrapped up in the corner of the garage since. I am beginning to wonder though will I ever have time to finish it, and maybe I should just sell it off and use the space for something else, but it does have some sentimental value so it would be a shame.
  15. Some companies do, but it isnt always a better deal. You cant use NCB on classic car insurance usually, which very often means higher premium. Also they are very mileage sensitive. When I first got my 911 the prices from all the "specialist" and "classic" insurance companies were about £1000ish. Unless I did only 2000 miles a year rather than the 14,000 I was doing. The mainstream insurers were quoting me around £400. The "specialists" argument were that they are experts and offer a better service. Which fair enough they may do, but £1000 compared to £400 is a big difference.
  16. Well, just got off the phone with LV and they confirm that they no longer insure Porsche 911`s (or range rovers for some reason). Seems very odd to me as I cant believe many people have made claims for 911`s over the last year compared to other cars. So now im shopping about to get quotes for both the Porsche & the Mini. As usual, all the multi-car policies are coming back loads more than just insuring them both separately so looks like I will end up with multiple policies.
  17. Fingers crossed its just some sort of oddity on their website, unless they just dont like turbos now. Have to say I was pretty impressed with the quote of £280 for a stock turbo. Compared to the £900 I had to pay for my 350z a few years back.
  18. My insurance is due for renewal also. Last year I really struggle to get a decent quote on the 911 due to its modifications. Fortunately LV came in at £420 for it, then only charged me £40 to add the Mini halfway through the year. This year cheapest i've found is £280 for a stock 997 turbo or £550 incl mods. I've just tried to get a quote as a new client on LV`s website only to be told "sorry we dont insure that type of car" when I key in porsche 911. So will have to give them a call and see if they no longer insure porsche`s or if they will let me renew my policy and if so how much!
  19. If Bulb are anything like British Gas they will not even notice. Last summer BG didn't notice that my daily gas usage went from something like 50p a day to £20 a day for 2 weeks, then went down to normal. Even in winter when my wife puts the heating on full blast all day we only used £5 of gas per day. When I raised it with them, they just said meters dont lie. The fact it was working correctly now clearly showed that it wasnt a fault with the meter as they dont just "fix themselves", I must have used the gas and they transferred me to a "how to use your energy more efficiently" team who told me useful stuff like turning the heating off when not at home etc.. When I asked what an earth would I have to be doing to use £20 of gas a day in the middle of summer when it was 36 degrees outside, they had no explanation at all and just repeated their "meters dont lie so you must have used it" line. Looking back through 3 years worth of usage, ive never used more than £6 a day. In fact, my entire street combined probably didnt use £20 of gas in a day in summer. But there you go. That's customer service for you! That Tesla power wall looks pretty awesome, but like you say £10k!!!!
  20. Lovely looking car and a good price. As others have said its the wrong time of year to sell a car like that. If your not desperate id wait until spring time. But then you have to look at what price you might get in spring time compared to taking a cheaper offer now. When I was selling my HR, I found it very hard and in the end had to take a hit and part-ex it which was gutting for me, but I didnt have much choice.
  21. I have had the Milwaukee m18 fuel 1/2 impact gun for a few years now and my god its awesome. Its been a life saver when I was rebuilding my mini. Stuff like hub nuts, i didnt even bother knocking out the locking tab on them - just wacked on the 32mm socket and bang, off in seconds. Some of the chasis bolts on the mini had never been undone since they were put on new 16 years back and were rusted solid, but the milwaukee soon blasted them off. Very powerful indeed. In fact, I was so impressed with it I bought pretty much all of the rest of the M18 fuel range and have not been disappointed.
