  1. I love Jap GT cars. I was always tempted by an RX7 as I loved the look, but the potential reliability issues put me off as to me, reliability is part of the attraction of a Jap car. Skylines, not really for me, I like the look of the R34 but I much prefer a curvy car and I just couldn't spend time inside a skyline, the interiors are so boring! My Supra TT 6 speed manual RZ @ BPU (approx 400hp) is still one of my favorite cars I've owned. I loved it! Think I had it about 6/7 years and only got rid as it was starting to get tatty and had done 140k miles. That and a handful of airfield track days had taken it's toll on the paintwork and the suspension was getting tired. Rather than spend money on it I decided it was time for a change and managed to sell it for more than I paid for it so was happy. Still miss it though.
  2. What mileage has your OEM clutch done? My Vortech Charged 350z did 40k miles at over 400bhp on the OE clutch so it isn't a 'must do' until its worn. However, if you want the benefits of a lightened flywheel at the same time as you go FI then go for it.
  3. Sorry to hear about your troubles. As has been said, there are plenty of internet threads about these guys, including many on this forum. A quick google on any dealer is a good idea before a purchase. I believe some of the cars can be ok, but the after sales is really bad. I actually went and viewed a GT-R there a few months back and wasn't very impressed. The car had lots of chips, corrosion, blemishes etc and that was AFTER it had been to the bodyshop for a front end spray, they just left the rest. To actually get a test drive, I pretty much had to agree a sale price and agree to purchase if all was ok on the test drive. I then had to wait 20 mins while they sent a guy out with a jerry can to get some petrol so I could drive it....Needless to say, I didn't buy it.
  4. Just catching up with this, absolutely awesome looking zed! Need a better exhaust video some decent reving from behind.
  5. Cheers guys. They are a bit marmite in the looks department (i don't particularly like the front of them much ) but the but in the flesh and in red I think it helps. I hope to get it on track at some point this year, probably Snetterton as its close and I used to take the Zed there so will be good to compare. Wouldn't mind a a run at Santa pod also just to see what its like! It's due a big service this month (circa £1k ) and gonna get the gearbox solenoids cleaned out as a preventative measure as it seems that's where most of the gearbox issues can materialise from. Once that is done , I'll probably get booked in for some track action. So, my first week of ownership was't the best, nothing major but was bricking it until I found the problem - Went for a spin and started to push it, on accelerating had a lack of power and a misfire. After a bit of trialing I ascertained that the problem was probably a boost leak due to the fact that whenever the car went from vacuum to boost it felt like I hit a brick wall and as soon as back into vacuum o part throttle it would run fine. Also - no engine warning light. So on returning/limping home I started to investigate. I gave Sly (Kaizer) a quick call to confirm I was thinking along the right lines and he was very helpful and agreed it sounded like a boost leak. I checked all the pipework that was accessible from the engine bay and couldn't find any issues. On plugging in the OBDII reader it showed running rich on bank 1 , so i decided to start there. I made a DIY boost leak tester using stuff I had in the garage .... a plastic mug, a hockey puck and a shreader valve ! On connecting an airline I could not get it to hold an air at all! After a quick google on how to go about it, I removed the undertray and the bumper to inspect the rest of the pipe work and this is what I found; As you can see the the intercooler end chamber had totally parted from the fins on bank 1! And it looks like bank 2 had been leaking for a while as there is an oily residue in one corner. It seems that where the front bumper air shroud directs the air through the coolers, debris/leaves can sit in the bottom and stay damp causing a bit of corrosion and weakening the cooler end tanks. I managed to get a pair of very low mileage used items from JM imports and fitted them, and all back together no problems. So no real drama. Have enjoyed over 1000 miles since.
  6. Well, following on from this thread; http://www.350z-uk.c...or-decision-p8/ and my need for a V8 .......I bought an R35 GT-R. The reasons for which are explained on page 8 of the above thread. So after seeing and driving a few I made the jump and bought this one. It's a 59 plate Black Edition. I made sure it had Sat Nav, Bluetooth, i-pod connectivity etc. as most of the earlier ones didn't have it although they all seem to say they do in the adverts! The trick is to look at the pics and see if it has the MAP button on the lower left of the MFD(screen). This is my first AWD drive car, my first non-manual car, in fact every car I've owned in my 20yrs driving has been a Front Engine - RWD manual. (Bar one actually, a FWD Celica GT) So I was a bit apprehensive as to whether I'd like it. My main concern being that I'm used to, and enjoy a car squirming about a bit and occasionally forcing a loose rear end exiting corners etc..So will I find it boring? I know its early days in my ownership (about 2 months and 1500miles) but I can honestly say I don't think it will be a problem. I'm yet to push it to the point where it looses traction, as I'm still getting used to the different handling characteristics of being AWD, although it seems to run RWD most of the time looking at the torque split on the display. What a weapon!! It's a Litchfield Stage 1 tune on EcuTek V5 , so making somewhere between 570 - 600 bhp and I think around 540lbft torque. I've never driven, or been in anything like it. Its scary how fast you can go in such little time and distance, you really have to be thinking a long way down the road when pressing on. And much like the Zeds, your going a lot faster than it feels! The way it drives has exceeded my expectations. Although there is lots of electrickary going on every 100th of a second or so, you just can't tell. It feels so mechanical and not at all detached, it really is surprising. It probably helps that it sounds very mechanical as well. Sometimes clonking and clicking like a tractor when when your doing low speed parking maneuvers You can hear the drivetrain most of the time. But it certainly gives it character. And here's a couple of sunset shots - (sorry about how dirty it is and they are just phone pics)
  7. Hi Chris Sorry to hear of your bad times. Good to see you making sh*t again! That burner in the shed, is it a gas one? Any good?
  8. I've still got my BMX from when I was a young teen. I was given it for my birthday (second hand) . It came from a guy that used to race it and was badged up as a SKYWAY. I spent all my school days fighting off people that wanted to buy it off me, it even got stolen twice, but I managed to find it on both occasions! A few years ago i decided to find out exactly what model it was and after a few days research I found it wasn't a Skyway after all ...But a Raleigh This upset me a bit, as the back in the day it wasn't cool to have the Raleigh...... Anyway, I finally found out exactly what it was and its actually quite rare so pretty cool in the end. A 1983 Mk1 Chromo Burner as can be seen here - http://dtrcartwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Burner/tw.htm Mine needs a bit of a polish up but isn't too bad, I'm looking forward to getting it down from the roof of the garage and giving it a clean up now!
  9. Congrats on the new Zed. Very rare. Only one in the UK? possibly? The V3 is marmite and I think the rear bumper is hideous (sorry). Definitely needs new wheels as well, but your obviously addressing that. However, the front, sides, interior and most importantly engine more than make up for it! Just make sure you keep all the original parts and I can't see you ever loosing any money on it. Great investment, hope you get out and enjoy it!
  10. Looks lovely. Love the new wheel colour.
  11. Personally , I liked the titanium on my Zed. Look cool, and after a few years and heat and flames they even go a bit rainbow!
  12. Good track, with plenty of run off......You, like me, might need it!
  13. Yes I have the reverse beep defeater box fitted! Was more than just a camera and a cable for sure! Your Mailbox is full! David Ah...so it is! Had a clear out now.
  14. Have got a reverse beep canceler yet? Not sure how long I can cope with mine lol. Could you PM me rough cost of the reversing cam ? I was thinking about doing it myself, but appears there is a lot more to it than usual.
  15. It has been covered a few times on here. But a good reminder to new members as it can actually blow your BCM which isn't a straight forward diy fix. If you look in the guides section, I'm sure there is a guide on this very subject.
  16. Is it? Where? The guy said he would email me if he decided to move it on. Although, he may have been a week too late now I've made a purchase lol. Intercooler in the centre and an oil cooler each side where the screen wash bottles used to be, not sure where the bottles have been relocated, though. Cool I wanted to see how tight it was with the mishimoto rad It's dam tight in there now as it is But it was in there so it must work Unless some surgery was required When I was taking to Fraser about it when I planed to buy it, he said the crash bar needed a little alteration to get it all to fit.
  17. Lovely! Where did you meet in the end? Gutted I couldn't come out to play.
  18. Of course you can mate, anytime. I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Just give me a shout. That sounds kinky!!! Do you fancy a threesome, I'll join you guys, ha ha! I'm sure something can be arranged.
  19. Of course you can mate, anytime. I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Just give me a shout.
  20. What a motor! That really is lovely mate. GLWTS.
  21. Yeah, unfortunately head had to rule over heart this time, but its hardly a terrible sacrifice is it. I still think the front is fugly though Although I must admit in the flesh and up close, they are much better than any picture could ever suggest. The drive makes up for it though, it really has exceeded my expectations.
