Sorry CMCK, been after one for a while at the right price, just sent the payment to Dean.

I believe the dual mass flywheel is for cars that require the idle RPM to be around 500, like the USA, as you need to keep the engine momentum going. I doubt it has much effect on the rest of the drive train, otherwise we would have seen it now. Along similar lines to the LW pulleys really. Iv had mine fitted for 3.5 years, and apart from them squeaking when the temperature is really cold, like in winter, iv not had an issue.

Conducted another experiment, and took the car out of gear while it was making the noise, and the noise was still there, so it must be drive shaft/diff related. I hope Sly still does his drive shaft regrease job, as il see if he can do that while its back with him.
-
I wondered if it was drive shaft or wheel bearing, as it suddenly appeared after the coilovers were fitted. Its going back to Sly soon to have the camber arms fitted, so will discuss it with him at the time, and see if we can see what the sketch is.
-
So any other ideas as to what this whirring/whining could be? Could it be the pump, diff, driveshafts?
-
Forgot to say, it sounds like it is coming from the glove box behind the passenger seat

I didnt want to hijack the previous thread, so thought id start another. After Sly did an awesome job of fitting my coilovers the other week, i noticed a really odd sound on the drive back. I thought it sounded like a drive shaft, or diff related issue, but the more I hear it, the more im convinced its the fuel pump. (Especially after reading the previous thread) Its really quite loud when doing motorway speeds, then goes away when going faster or slow, so its heard from around 2-3.5k in the rev range. Iv always noticed a small humming type noise from it at the same sort of speeds, but this is now rediculous, to the point where I have to turn the stereo up to drown it out. Does this mean its on its way out and needs replacing? Car is on 75k if that helps.

Alot of owners have gone for a LW flywheel, and said it was the best thing they ever did. I had one fitted nearly 2 years ago now, and love it. It sounds a little agricultural below 2.5k rpm, but above that you only notice how quickly the engine spins up. Great mod to do if your changing your clutch.

I thought the camber arms could be slightly bent or straight. I have straight ones ready to be fitted, and the toe bolt goes through the inboard end bush. So effectively they are the same thing. Though i could be wrong of course.

Dont do 3 weeks of night shift, then start your car with only your left leg in the car (on the clutch) after only a couple of hours of sleep, and forget that on this one occasion, you left your car in gear on your drive when you parked it up, to warm it up before trip out. Result was the car tearing down the drive way, with me hanging half out of it, the open door smashing into the corner of the house, trapping my leg and pushing it into the metal loop that locks the door, just below my knee, as well as dragging my foot along the drive, removing quite abit of skin on the side of my big toe. I have no idea how i managed to get in the car, but managed to bring it to a stop before it hit the house opposite the drive way, before the gates ripped my wing mirror off. After reversing the car back onto the drive, looking at the surprisingly small amount of blood, I got out, looked at the car, then went into the house, dropped my trousers, and discovered a 15mm wide x 40mm long hole in my leg, just to the side of the vertical bone that is attached to the knee.

As said, fair play for getting a Zed so young, and saving hard to get it and pay for the insurance. Looks a nice example, though not a fan of the wheels if im honest, but each to their own. If the garage is going the rear struts for you, ask them to show you how they know its a Nismo exhaust if it bothers you. Ultimately, if your happy with it, regardless of the brand, then dont bother. It maybe a good chance to look under the car while its in the garage, so you can spot any other potential issues under there. Cant say iv ever heard of rusted rear struts, so id be wondering what else is going to need replacing. Enjoy the car anyway, and dont go hell for leather to start with, take it easy, and build yourself up. Though im sure people close to you have already said the same thing. -
Not a bad race, hope Kimi is ok.

Superb effort, well done!

Just seen that Caterham F1 has now been sold to a consortium of buyers, headed by Colin Kolles. http://www.planet-f1.com/driver/3213/9369260/Caterham-officially-sold?

My guess is, using an existing spoiler, build it up with foam and filler, smooth the shape and make a mould from it, to make some parts. I spent some time using fibreglass, pattern, mould and part making. Getting the mould is the hard part, making parts out of it is easy.

Nope, dont worry, just me. Also love the IS-F on the drive! Really like them, very under rated i think

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but is the wing the wrong way round, ie, should you not spin it 180? I just look at wings all day long, and that looks abit weird to me, like it wont create any downforce at all. Epic car by the way, love it.

On a serious note, you could try a silicone spray, or something along the lines of GT85, which cleans, but also lubes, and it does not attract dust like WD40

Maybe ditch the side steps for skirts, and if your keen to keep the black bonnet and roof, maybe do the rear hatch to match. As said previously, its pretty magnificent as is.
-
Cheers Dave, but i disagree, quite like the middle bit being body coloured, though i may get a lip of some sorts. Havnt decided yet.

Sorry about the state of it, but it has done almost 400 miles. Knocked it 2 clicks softer earlier, but unless you go really slow over speed ramps, of which there is alot on my estate, the front catches, so may go one click firmer on the fronts. Feels pretty planted round our many round abouts here in MK, but will continue to test. Lol Need to get the camber arms sorted soon too.

Well just got home now, and travelled nearly 400miles the past couple days. Worked out quite well with being in Kent and seeing sly. Here is what for. These (Zeta S) Plus this Equals Have now done 200miles on them, and have to say im impressed. Sly set them up quite firm for me, and iv since adjusted them to be a little softer, but it rides really well, and im loving the stance, which is 10-15mm lower than standard. The camber arms i bought from the forum could not be fitted as there appears to be something missing, and im still waiting for the seller to get back to me.......... So the car will have to go back for them to be fitted and to check everything else is still as it should be.

Ah yes the red one with the ducktail, very nice.

What colour was your one? Red black or purple?

Well the car has spent the day at Kaiser Motors, and have to say that my initial fears have been laid to rest, and im enjoying the car more than ever now. Pictures to follow, but wanted to say a big thanks to Sly for his efforts today, and will happily take my car there again for him to work on. Very honest and open and happy to help with reasonable requests. Top bloke.
