Bobby D Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 How many people have the original flares found in their JDMs??? I really want one for my Zed, my mates got his still in his supra! Just a nice little feature I think for the guys who like the JDM idea Quote
ekallus Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Presumably we're not talking about 1970's jeans here? I'm intrigued; what kind of flares? Quote
BulletMagnet Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Big red road flares, all JDM cars have them, most have them removed prior to export. eBay would be a good place to look if you really want one Quote
AliveBoy Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Are you allowed them over here? I thought they were taken out because they're illegal? *could be wrong though!* Quote
coldel Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I also thought it was illegal to have them in the car? Quote
Dave-350 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 You'd be lucky if you had the flare, they should be taken out before exported. But I know that a friend of mine had his Flare when he got his. Quote
Mudman Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Flares have a relatively short shelf life - if you don't intend to use it I would try to get a dummy one if you are looking for the JDM effect. Mine didn't come with a flare and I don't feel a burning need to get one ( no pun intended!) Also make sure you don't get the Schermuly type. Most chandelry shops sell them but tbh if I had a accident and the car caught fire I would rest easier knowing there wasn't a minor explosive inside. Its not illegal to have one but they are subject to misuse laws under Maritime law. I think they are illegal in large gatherings of people so Footy matches springs to mind, the Galatasary fans popped a few last trip to the Emirates and that didn't go down well 1 Quote
bamdc2 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Bobby D- Thought I had a couple lying around from my last couple of JDM cars, will have a look tonight and PM you if you want them? (pretty sure I chucked them out but not 100% so will check just in case) Quote

Jetpilot Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) Pretty sure i have a few lying around from various imports over the years, 3 in my toolbox, been there for years and sleep soundly every night Nothing like a bit of scaremongering Edited February 25, 2015 by Jetpilot Quote
Jetpilot Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) There was a discussion a while back on the Rx7 forum about, what to fit in its place, big fat cigar tube came out tops, well along with something else i wont mention Edited February 25, 2015 by Jetpilot Quote
AliveBoy Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I wouldn't recommend posting one. That would go down massively badly! Quote
bamdc2 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I wouldn't recommend posting one. That would go down massively badly! Yeah didnt think of that.... Quote
steve916 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 ...........but tbh if I had a accident and the car caught fire I would rest easier knowing there wasn't a minor explosive inside. But at least we would all be able to see where you've had the accident though Quote
Jetpilot Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Isnt this kind of like the whole jdm brake "panic" you get on here, i.e they are not Brembos, your jdm car wont stop . I am sure if the Japanese had problems with "explosives" being in their cars, they wouldnt put them in there in the first place 1 Quote
BulletMagnet Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Put an emergency tampon in there for the missus 1 Quote
GMballistic Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Couple I've just found for sale on eBay for you Bobby. Seen another fellow Scooby owner set his off & it wasn't all that impressive plus most will be out of date by now so the likely hood of them working correctly is on the decrease. Quote
Darren-B Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I found a couple of Flares along with some live ammunition in the 240. That had an expiery date of 1973 so unlikely that they will still work, Quote
ilogikal1 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I am sure if the Japanese had problems with "explosives" being in their cars, they wouldnt put them in there in the first place It's a good job there aren't any explosive devices in cars designed specifically to detonate upon impact. Especially into the occupants faces. For example. Quote
Ebized Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 As a more serious guess do you mean these? Also now on the 370 Nismos. Quote
Grundy Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 As a more serious guess do you mean these? Also now on the 370 Nismos. Nope, he genuinely means a flare that american cops put down on road side accidents at night etc. A lot of JDM cars have these depending on whether or not they were removed from the 'flare' holder pre imported. BulletMagnet Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) Like these Edited February 25, 2015 by BulletMagnet Quote
Bobby D Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Does anyone know if they are actually allowed? Really do think I'm going to get one Quote
