ioneabee Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 currently using Norton Internet Security which has a month left to run are there any recommendations for better performing, less intrusive and less system hungry internet protections ? cheers Andy Quote
370Ad Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Can't beat Symantec for actual protection! Gartner Magic Quadrant: Quote
WhackyWill Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Norton is the best, you can turn off some of the intrusive features in settings. 1 Quote
370Ad Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 There is also Norton 360 which is similar to NIS but has other features too....check it out and drop me a PM if you like the sound of it Norton 360 - http://uk.norton.com/360/ Quote
Will370z Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I removed norton as it was such a resource hog. Avg is pretty good Quote
Humpy Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I use AVG here, always been good to me. Quote
neo Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Always use kaspersky internet security on all my PC's, buy last years or even 2 years ago product, download the latest trial version from their website then use the serial key in the box to activate 12 months 2012 3 user version £17 approx or 2014 £34 approx Quote
ioneabee Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 I always used to swear by avg................until it started letting stuff through on mine and others that I'd installed it on Quote

ioneabee Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 or searching through torrent sites for kindle books !!!! but, doesn't explain why the wrinklies pc's I'd installed it on started getting various infections - usually anti-virus pro Quote
ZMANALEX Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I use AVG at the moment but will be moving to Kaspersky shortly. Alex. Quote
Grundy Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I don't use any, but I've used Avast in the past, free and awesome. Another popular choice is Microsoft Security Essentials. I'd never pay for a AV, when there are plenty of decent free ones out there. Quote
ioneabee Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 you run without AV :scare: are you mad ? Quote
Vlad Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Kaspersky is pretty good! Using Avast at the moment as its free Quote
Fodder Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I often ask a couple of guys I know in our "red team" what they recommend and for the last fee years it's been avast. That along with Microsoft security it's pretty good. Quote
djb55 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I use clamwin its free and does the job .. worth a look. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Quote
neo Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 also install malwarebytes (free version) and run it once or twice a month Quote
Madmarky Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Have run Avast for years now and never a problem, and its free and pretty lightweight. Also I install AdBlock Plus on my browsers to keep them pesky ads at bay. Quote
gort Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Avast, together with Malwarebytes and Superantivirus and run once a month or so Quote
rtbiscuit Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Using bitdefender at the moment ant their total security package. Works very well. Quote
ZEUS Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I always use Norton without any problems, I tried McAfee once and it was awful. 1 Quote
Fodder Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Norton and macafee are awful, resource hogging and not very good. Please don't waste your hard earned in those. As has been said go for a recommended free AV such as avast or avg ( the latter was good but I found wasn't as effective after the first year or so) and malware bytes or other spyware:malware protection. All free and very effective. 1 Quote
