EXPAT RETURNING HOME

Recommended Posts

Greetings All

Will be heading back to the UK next April after close to 4 years in Papua New Guinea so looking to blow some of my hard earned and trust me its very hard earned cash on a Zed.

Its not going to be a commuter as next job requires a 4 seater so thats likely to be company funded and looking at an Alfa 159.

Budget likely to be around 10Kish for the Zed so question is looking at dealers best to go for a Nissan cared 4 or go private sale/ebay ? I guess its bang for your buck vs peace of mind with the doing a 2 year cover at the moment. I'm in no rush and as I keep reading there are plenty of Zeds out there. I normally do my homework and research so wont be an impulse buy having already cut from an initial list of 8 on the wish list. I'm OK with cars (you need to be here !) but would get an AA or RAC check on any private sale

Appreciate any feed back

Welcome! If you need any Zed advice, this is 100% the place, and if you need any tax advice I work for a tax company specialising in expats, so I can help on that side of things too

Would you be looking for standard, slightly modified or heavily modified? With £10k you can get a lot of very lovely Z to enjoy

Thanks All

I'm working for a shipping line line in Lae which is the industrial heart of PNG so looking after all shipping container related activities and as the can be used for all sorts of things its a hell of a job to keep an eye on them. Thanks for the tax offer ! We pay 40% flat here no way around it but at least my Mil pension is tax free so thats a bonus. PNG is pretty much the wild west, and can be very dangerous. the Police are largely not up to the jon - example being if something is kicking off and you ring them, they normally need to be collected or won't come unless you promise to cover their fuel costs. Fishing however is top notch as is diving. THe Company has 2 Stabicrafy boats with 2 x 150 hp outboards so always good to let loose with those, but been here long enough and need to get back to reality and assimilation in to family life. The ex pat jobs heres are all very well paid and there are plenty of them especially in the Mining or Project fields so as long as you are careful you can squirrel enough by to get a new plaything on returning to reality!

Like I said I'm in no rush to get the Zed so will indeed shop around and try a basic/modded to see (and hear!!) the difference - the original plan was to a intensive DA bike course, buy bike ride bike but not getting any younger so think a Zed is the sensible alternative. The wife seems happier with that option! I have plenty of time on my hands so will be reading up and also looking at the forsale/autotrader/ebay but normally have a golden rule of no more than GBP 100 on ebay

I look forward to reading the forums and absorbing the great info available !

The deed is done. The Zed purchased from a forum member although don't know his handle. Went for a low mileage JDM with a few mods well within budget and a trip down to Abbey should still fall within budget. Only had 2 days before I did the SORN and covered her up until I get back end of Feb.

Looking forward to my first regional meet in East Anglia when I get back and already feeling the effects of Zeditus! Currently showing photos to anyone who will listen...oh dear is this what happens ?

Thanks to Mark and this is his pic !
