what does this mean/do?

so i was flicking through the little comp thing, where you can do lap timers, have your speed, temp etc and came across a option where it says RPM and you can select different numbers, of course i know what RPM means, but what does this actually do?

You can set when the light comes on for the rev counter i believe, never played with it

I might be wrong but I thought it sets the point at which the rev limiter light would flash? but doesn't actually change the mechanical rev limiter. someone who knows more will be able to confirm or not

Yes its to set the shift light..mine set at 6000 RPM..should go to 7500 RPM.

As others have said, you choose when the red light flashes. I does not change anything else.

 

Most set it to either most torque or where they want to bottle it and change up.

I use mine as a reminder to change into 6th on the motorway. I set it so that it starts to flash when I'm at 70 in 5th gear. I just ignore it the rest of the time.

Unbelievably, it's in the user manual and even gives suggested settings.

One of the few gadgets I've actually used. I set it at 4k for the first 1,000 miles when I was running her in then upped it to 5k and left it there.

Is it just me, but i find that tiny little light a right pain in the ass as its far too small to be seen in my peripheral vision. The only time i see it is when its dark and my dash lights are dimmed. I'm sure i've seen a link somewhere about how to fit a larger/brighter shift light. Or maybe i should start wearing spectacles with Coke bottle bottom lenses.

Ah! First and only time I've ever noticed that number on the computer and considered it, had initially thought it was a 'maximum rev on that trip' counter type of thing! That explains that. Mines at 6500

On my first drive in the zed I was playing with this, to figure out what it did. When it cycled down to the minimum value the red light flashed like crazy on the dash and I fully bricked it! Thought I'd bust the zed after 5 minutes!

Mines set at 5600, perhaps a tad gentle, maybe I should be a bit more adventurous.

Mines set at 6600 and I rarely see it tbh... But after 1st gear you're pretty much breaking any speed limit if you see it flashing!
