rothers2901 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 £75 million to put a handful of people in place of something that was already in there. Again, another total waste of money which could be best spent elsewhere. Quote
rtbiscuit Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 i went and voted by drawing a penis on my ballet slip. i think the lady thought i was in a long thought process, but i was actually trying to get the hairs righ ton the sack. 1 Quote
zDan Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Is there a threshold where elections are declared invalid due to low turnout? I mean, imagine if the 100 people that bothered to turn to vote today were all ex-cons? Not that they were, but low turnouts means very little credibility for whoever gets elected... Quote

Ricey Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I might add that I have literally no clue what this vote is for or about such is my lack of interest Quote
AK350Z Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I might add that I have literally no clue what this vote is for or about such is my lack of interest It's basically a vote on which candidate you would prefer to make your local police force worse. There's no selection box on the ballot for "WTF is this load of donkey balls". Quote
ioneabee Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 The harm that this particular election has done to the voting democratic process is IMHO immeasurable - the apathy its created will be long and far reaching (and I am in no way criticizing those who chose not to vote) Quote
Bockaaarck Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I voted because if I didn't then I don't believe I could justify moaning about the outcome. Where as now I can spend many happy hours spitting blood and gnashing my teeth at the result. What I'm most frustrated about is that, as far as I can recall, we didn't actually get an opportunity to say "Actually, we don't want P&CC's at all, not one, we don't want any..." that's what annoys me. Yet another layer of the very thin veneer of demorcacy that we are supposed to live under is removed. 1 Quote

Ekona Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I still have no idea where my polling station was. Stupid idea, utter waste of time and money even if the theory behind it is sound. Quote
Chris`I Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I dont really get what it was all about either, other than there were a few ads on C4 which made no attempt to explain what it was all about. Some of us had real work to do keeping this Nation moving Quote
rtbiscuit Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 i had no idea of any of my candidates, or what they offered, the whole process locally was about as well advertised as a bad fart. Quote
Ekona Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Conservative bloke won ours on second preference, apparently. I read his gumpf, he didn't say anything he was going to do but just gave a list of principles. Easier to do that than risk looking a liar when the public realise you've got no cash to spend At least the independant woman nominee didn't win, she wanted to press ahead with "improvements to road safety", i.e. speed cameras Quote
rtbiscuit Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 i just looked mine up, 4 in total, none have any experience in policing although one claims to have done some work with them as a politician. ones a farmer/conservative councillor, ones ex council exec/labour councillor, ones a doctor who does local radio, and the other was a water survey specialist and UKIP rep. so i'm glad i draw a c0ck on my ballet paper as that seems to be all its worth. wizurd Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 we actually had one area near me that had no voters at all! what a total mockery. surely they should have asked if we wanted this first. Unless it was sneaked in at the last general election as part of their polices. Quote
JetSet Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Unless it was sneaked in at the last general election as part of their polices. Yes, it was in their manifesto but I doubt that it would have swung too many votes in their direction at the last general election. If they were determined to push through these elections they should have at least waited until April or May next year. TBH, I'm not really sure what these commissioners will be able to achieve really, the government set the police budgets and the chief constables are well aware of what the priorities are. We now have elected commissioners, what next, elected sheriffs, judges...... Pete Quote
rtbiscuit Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 apparent total cost to organise this is £100 million, are these people now salaried as well? what an absolute waste of money. how many police could they have bought with 100 million. Quote
spursmaddave Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I didn't even realise there was a vote I have never voted in any election ever and until we are forced to vote I won't be... Quote
choptop Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 These positions should not have anything to do with any political party, hence why so many independent candidates won countywide. The public has spoken. Quote
rtbiscuit Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 the only independent in east anglia to win was norfolk, was actually a tory rep, who wasn;t offered the position, so quit and entered as an indie. the rest of east anglia is represented by tory commissionars Quote
JetSet Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 how many police could they have bought with 100 million. 3,000 Apparently. Pete Quote
