AK350Z Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 The train is booked, so there's no turning back now! On the 2nd of August I'm off to John o'Groats to start cycling my end-to-end. Probably over 1000 miles, I'm going down the east of the Pennines and hopefully seeing a few of you on the way - especially at Wassos Midlands meet on the 11th. The bike is nearly sorted, a Specialized Tricross, just a few details left to sort out. Intinery for the first two thirds is basically JOG - Inverness - Braemar - Dundee - E'burgh/Galashields - Durham - Leeds - Peaks - Birmingham+day off! - TBA! This is definalty one of those bucket-list trips, it's basically unsupported, I'm mixing up camping with stays at friends houses and maybe a couple of b&bs if necessary. If anyone else has done similar, share you tips here! T-minus 2 weeks and counting... Quote
Wasso Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 All the best for your mammoth trip. Like I said the train or car is far easier. See you on or around the 11th Good luck Quote
Fodder Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Best of luck! There's a guy in our office who's mid way through his LEJOG challenge, he's doing it on a tandem with his wife. It's helping him achieve his milage targets as he's constantly peddalling faster to get away from her Quote
Stew Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I could visit you at braemar if I'm off! I'd offer you lodgings but it's 40 miles away..... the wrong way! Quote

coldel Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Good luck with this I cycled from Cognac to Paris on my own with panniers on a steel framed hybrid! Booked into 'gites' every night rather than camp as I was on my own and didn't know anyone in between...have to say, without wanting to affect your plans, found a rucksack on my back easier work than weight on the panniers...bourbon biscuits work a blinder btw! SteveW Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Good luck dude! Hope the seat is comfy, saddle sore is a cruel mistress!!! Quote

AK350Z Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Cheers Col, I find Sudocream works well, plus it's dirt cheap and waterproof! None of this £15 a tube nonsense. PS, if anyone want's to do a leg with me, you know where I am... Quote
coldel Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Yeah sudocream I have discovered since my wife had a baby 5 months ago cures just about any skin ailment - amazing stuff! Quote
RichieB Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Best of luck with this mate At least you have plenty of offers of decent places to rest-up during the journey Quote
Ricey Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Epic effort mate I hope you have a great time. I always wished I was a bit more into cycling but 6 miles and my back is crippled and I feel like I've been given a good hard bumming! Road running ftw! Quote
