Seen this popping up around the internet seems like a good one for here, what do you think the '10s should be remembered for?

Smartphones becoming mini computers that have opened up the world to endless information?

World leaders in many democratic countries normalising racism, xenophobism and misogyny?

The human race becoming on the whole dumber, for example posting meme's on social media and genuinely, really, believing the content to be true?

EVs that can do over 200 miles starting to become a viable alternative to ICE for the wealthy?

Lewis Hamilton under the radar becoming one of the best F1 drivers of all time?

Disney ruining Star Wars? (with the exception of Rogue One which was a masterpiece)

This decade will unfortunately be remembered as the "Decade of Trump", I really don't remember a day when I have looked at any new sites that have not had some sort of story about him as one of the headline articles, and that's from the point he ran as a candidate, it got worse once he was elected.

I think EV advancement would be up there from an automotive perspective, and technology . . VR/AI/Autonomy advancements

......the increase in rogue social media interference in lawful elections, hand in hand with incumbents full knowledge, unduly influencing results.

Cnuts in charge on both sides of the Atlantic.

Russia conquering the Middle East (lots of shots fired) and most of the west (without a shot fired)

oh and “austerity” for the poor in the UK in particular

Yeah good shout on that - the shocking manupulation of the electorate for both Brexit and trump.

Sadly, for the UK at least, i think this decade will be remembered for Brexit, and possibly terrorism (Manchester and London attacks).

For sport... will England reaching the World Cup semi final be remembered in the same way as 1990?  I doubt it.  The cricket world cup final was pretty epic though!!  And yes, it has been Lewis' decade for F1.

The rise of multiplayer gaming becoming the default, and single player games quietly dying a death leaving me behind.

My entire world falling apart in a single year, then trying to build myself back up again. (Okay, that one is only going to be remembered by me!)

The SJW having more influence than ever before, rightly or wrongly. People moaning about things they simply do not understand and are not fixable overnight.

The death of the manual gearbox and the chase for power and efficiency over character when it comes to cars.

Yes have to agree on that last point Dan, chasing power numbers as if that defines a car when the car weighs ten tonnes is a sad reflection of the 'mine is bigger than yours' mentality that is all over social media and for older people, during pub chat. The only car I have bought twice, a lightweight B road racing car

For me the frustration with social media, bullying online, people that talk like absolute tits online but then are small insignificant cowards when you actually meet them face to face.

For me it's the decade I got into cars more than ever. Being a biker I never thought I would get into cars as much as I did.

But as above its the decade of snowflakes and people who can't make their mind up on whether they are male, female or lampost or other.....

For me, looking back, things like the "selfie" (which i still do not understand why people want to take pictures of themselves for) seems to jump out. "Social media" becoming more prominent with people being so called "influencers" or whatever. Fake news also. That seems to be more of a thing now, although I guess its always been there, but maybe  now people are being more aware of it. Political stuff seems to have been prominent too - like Trump getting in, Russia hitting the headlines more, plus all the UK political stuff which has happened over the last 10 years.

From a personal level its been quite an eventful decade. I started it working as a labourer getting £50 for a 10 hour day having been made redundant from my normal line of work. My Girlfriend dumped me. I had lost all my life savings due to an Icelandic bank collapsing and my car had broken down. Not much else could have gone wrong really. But over the last 10 years, I met my wife, got a decent job again, bought a new house, had 2 kids, bought a 911 turbo, had house extended massively and things couldnt be more different to how they were at the start of the decade. On a negative side, all my hobbies & interests were put on hold back since getting married, i've only been able to socialise with my friends about 3 times since, i've a lot more grey hairs and im wondering "is this it?".

I too have had my mid life crisis! Started the decade buying something called a 350z having never really been that interested in cars, this then snowballed into all manner of car purchases! Family life pretty stable, my son arrived in 2012 and he is brilliant. Best thing has been that my wife has seen a correlation between my energy at home and my hobbies, so encourages me to do them  in terms of is this it, well still many things to do, I really want a career change from office work to being an actor, I love the stage having spoken at large conferences and the like and am trying to turn that into a different career, lots of years of hard work to come!

Friday night is sacrosanct, that's beer nights with my mates...

Also for the 10's have suddenly encountered more instances of death and ill health, brings life into perspective. Personally thought I would never walk properly again when I was on crutches with severe arthritis, but was rescued by a great specialist! A year later I did a tough mudder (thanks for the sponsorship guys!)  Also had a family member pass due to MND at such a young age - kind of reminds you to make the most of life and never count those chickens.

Really agree with this. The death of the manual gearbox has really frustrated me(being the dinosaur that I am!), and when stuff like the Alpine A110 are auto only you know that things are turning pear shaped.

@coldel and @rabbitstew, pfft amateurs! Just this year alone I’ve got divorced, had a kid with one girl, sold my 5 bed house to rent a 2 bed flat, moved in with another girl who’s 15 years my junior and booked a wedding for next year with her  didn’t need a whole decade for my midlife crisis!

Must admit Netflix and Amazon Prime are how I consume TV now, with a splashing of You Tube. I think only Match of the Day is the only programme I watch 'live'

The death of the car show on TV and owners club forums, overtaken by YouTube and Facebook groups

Too true! I love forums as it's so much easier to compartmentalise the content so you can search and navigate it easier. I used to help run a Jap Car owners club with a forum, then through a few unexpected circumstances ended up with non Jap cars and drifted away. Just recently got back into Jap with my 350 and that forum has long since died and moved onto an FB group which is just a lot harder to engage people through and navigate. Thank god for this forum! :yahoo:

It is something that happens here, but no where near as often on FB, but FB just encourages people to ask the same questions over and over again because there is no manageable/easy to acces content storage.

What will I remember the 2010s for?

Skinny jeans. Hipsters. Beards and moustaches.

House, dance and trance.

Social media.

Smart homes.

Muhammad Ali passing away.

Politics, lots of it.

On a personal note, this decade has been Selling my Zed, condensing a 4 bedroom house down to 2.6 Cubic Metres, packing one suitcase each and one way ticket. Having arrived with just $750 of personal wealth to our names to where we are now we could not be happier. it's been an adventure for sure. Who knows where we would be if we were still in the UK, but I can guarantee we would not have the quality of life we do now.

Thats a great shout, all decades up to the 90's have had quite specific fashion trends.  I can't think of anything for the 00's except maybe the hoody and shaved heads, but yes the 10's has definitely been the hipster look.
