Reminds me of the days when I was into autotesting (using a Beetle then an Imp) and used the grippiest tyres I could find on the front to make the turns but well worn tyres on the rear to help do the 180/360's, especially on surfaces like airfields where the ribbed concrete made even the handbrake turns a challenge with the handbrake at lower speeds let alone getting those rear engined cars to piroutte around the cones. Mind you it was a balance in making sure there was enough tread on the tyres to last a meeting before the canvas put in an appearance
