  1. I notice in the new series in the US, Mike always has to do something to the car now as well... like unsymmetrical stripes on a Camaro...
  2. Guru not grammarian.
  3. It's not ideal running mixed rubber, but you won't crash and die, despite what some people will tell you. I've been running mpss on the rear and vreds on the front for a while now as my fronts were new and didn't want to buy 4 new tyres (Vreds were discontinued or I would have stuck with them). I've driven in the snow and a very wet track day at Bedford and had no issues whatsoever. Not ideal, but if you want to change brand, it is a cheaper way of doing it rather than all at once. Or you could just stivk with the Bridgestones as they are a decent tyre?
  4. And that is all that matters!
  5. I'm sure it's a lovely machine, but it does nothing for me. It's as desirable to me as a 4 wheeled washing machine or fridge, but then I don't have kids to transport. As a family wagon for short distances, I can see the appeal. I still don't think full electric is the answer, but that's for another thread. Enjoy.
  6. Depends on which model of 911 turbo you go for but with a few tweeks they can be as involving as other cars, although I find that like a lot of turbo cars, you dont have to wring its neck to get places extremely quickly. So for some roads, you would be better off with a non-turbo car, or one with less power which you need to properly thrash which makes you feel more involved in the drive. Again its personal preference and depends on what you want to use it for. For me, if im just driving to work, I can leave it in 6th from 40 upto err... silly speeds and just a prod of the accelerator will get the car moving very quickly, even when your overtaking etc. so you can be quite lazy. However, if I feel im in more of a speed demon mode then in sports mode, just dropping it down to 3rd or 4th (depending on what speed your doing) and flooring it and the cars ballistic. A bit too ballistic for a lot of roads as you find you end up constantly on the brakes. Looks are quite subjective, but I think the 911 turbo does look pretty good with its wide arches & boot spoiler etc. compared to other 911`s (outside of those with aerokits). I certainly notice mine gets a lot of looks when im driving it, however it is also subtle enough to sit on my drive and not cause much undue attention. So whilst not as mental looking as a lambo, its kinda the best of both worlds to some degree. Is yours a manual or tip? I'd be interested to hear how you like the tip (If it is - as the manual 997.1's are well out of range, but a tip probably just about is)... sorry everyone, thread hijack!
  7. 911 Turbo... although probably not as involving to drive as other cars or even some over 911's or as exciting to look at as a proper exotic, you could use it every day in any weather and it would destroy 99.9% of other cars in any situation. This was my opinion before this weeks TG as well!
  8. Altitude is a funny old thing, some people are completely unaffected while others get quite seriously ill. You'll notice the lack of oxygen for definite, but if you take it steady and drink lots of water it isn't too bad. We went on honeymoon to Peru and Ecuador last year and we were rarely below about 2700m. Our hotel in Cusco was 3500 so we acclimatised fairly quickly. The highest we got was about 4700m when we climbed a volcano which is just outside of Quito. It's not as high or as hard as Killi, but still higher than Mt. Blanc. Sounds like an awesome thing to do!
  9. I think we know what Stu's first assignment is going to be!
  10. Having had an experience like I had, my private health insurance is the last thing that would go. It really makes you think about what is important in life... and that isn't cars and material sh!te (Although I do love cars and material sh!te).
  11. Sorry to hear all this mate. It's not until you've been to an NHS hospital that you realise how f**ked the system has become. I had a pleasant stay in October 2015 with acute duodenitis... which wasn't diagnosed until around a month later when I saw someone who knew what he was doing. 4 days and nights I was in a ward with very little pain relief despite being unable to stay still due to the pain I was in. The best part was waking up at 2 am with no water and an empty drip. I had to wander the hospital for about 20 mins to find someone to beg for some water. I also had to tearfully beg for proper pain relief, rather than the paracetamol they wanted to give me... There were people far worse off than me though, so I shouldn't really complain... But... I now gladly pay for private medical insurance. Hope you get sorted soon!
  12. Aren't 997.1 Turbos way out of the c.£35-40k mark though?
  13. I know it's personal opinion, but I wouldn't have an F-Type if any kind of 911 was on the table. I would be very happy with an F-Type, don't get me wrong - they look and sound great, but they are not in the same league as a Gen 2 997 or a 981 Cayman.
  14. I put a bid in, but my session had timed out and was too late to rebid. Was a fantastic deal to be fair as they looked immaculate (If not in an original colour) and with usable tyres too. Well done to whoever won!
  15. Pizza. There isn't much that competes on effort to taste ratio!
  16. This thread is basically my monthly dilemma that one day soon will have to be answered. The 997 Gen 2 seems like the no-brainer, but you get a lot of 911 and a lot of change if you go for a Gen 1. I don't know how much further the Gen 2's will fall in price, so now is probably a good time to get one. They sold a lot less than the Gen 1 and are more desirable in some respects due to the lower risk of engine problems. Manual, guard's red, black interior, sports seats, sports exhaust and sports chrono please!
  17. I didn't get any money back as it was a cheap job, from what I thought was quite a reputable place. It was only after a few washes that you started to properly notice the orange peel, runs, dust in the clear coat etc. 3 years on and the lacquer has started to peel. The cheap job is going to cost me twice, because if I sell, I either have to get it sorted or reduce the price accordingly. There's no guarantee that paying more will get you a better job, but it does mean they probably won't rush it or cut corners. Worth thinking about.
  18. Don't underestimate the annoyance of a sh!t paint job. I'd have paid double for mine to have been done properly... If you have a reputable place which does a good job (Which last more than a few months), then hand them whatever they want!
  19. If it's an insurance job, then you absolutely have to complain. I bet they've charged a fortune for that work knowing that you didn't have to pay for it. I'd call the garage today and explain the situation and see if they will rectify, otherwise go to your insurance and explain that you aren't happy with the work and it needs redoing. You can't settle for how it is at the moment.
  20. I can't believe the paint shop had the balls to hand the car back to you like that? I assume the rest of the car was there and they haven't just sent you the bumper back? The only excuse is if you have said to them not to blend or you have haggled for the cheapest job possible. That paint match isn't even close. I don't care if the rest of the car has aged 1000 years, that is absolutely shocking. Get on to them (Politely) and ask them to redo it.
  21. Higher speed, more weight? I do quite a few track days and karting days each year and I will do things in a kart I would never dream of doing in a car. Deliberately rotating the back end in a kart is almost second nature to me, but any kind of sliding in the Zed, really unnerves me. Maybe because I know it's my daily drive, would be expensive to repair/replace and I need to get home from the track that I'm more cautious?
  22. So we give up our bargaining chip, as Ekona says above, why would the Germans not just agree to a like for like deal? I see what you're saying, but we shouldn't be using repatriation as a bargaining chip, regardless of what other nations have or haven't agreed to do. Are we not better than that?
  23. I'm sure they are looking to see what we do first before putting anything in place. These people, in the most part, contribute to our society, so why would we cut more of our nose off. I can't see there being a mandate from the EU that all UK citizens have to move back to the UK. There are already a myriad of nationalities (Non-EU) across the EU (Living and working) and they aren't going to send all those back as well.
  24. Yes, why wouldn't we look to protect those that are contributing to our society?
  25. Morally - yes. Democratically - probably not. There does need to be something in place to oversee a government or they can introduce anything they choose. We might not like that these people aren't elected, but at least there is a barrier of some description.
