  1. given the list of tyres, and the budget consideration, i'd definitely be looking at federals, get them in a 255/35/18 for the rear which would give you oodles of grip, and a slight gearing reduction for a bit more snap out of corners. and at less than £100 a tyre they're a cheap upgrade, and will last for ages. I've done 8 full trackdays on a set now and they still have 3mm tread, and are still grippy. although thing I've just thought of... is the reason you're spinning an inside wheel because of the camber on the road going through tight uphill turns? in which case maybe consider modifying suspension and reducing rear swaybar to make sure the tyres stay in contact with the ground?
  2. PS. apologies for derailing the thread! personally, I think i'd overinflate the tyres so they don't get any flat spots, brim the tank and then leave it in gear and disconnect the battery. then when you're ready to go again, just reconnect the battery and off you go. I stood my mx5 up a few years ago, sat in a garage for 3 months over winter. Didn't actually do any prep at all, when I came back to it it fired up straight away right as rain. (apart from a flat tyre which I knew i'd have to pump up again)
  3. fixed that for you put some winter tyres and have at it! its a modern Japanese car, not a million pound Ferrari from the 1960s. It'll be fine!
  4. darn it Stevo's post has made mine look like a pre-schoolers now
  5. well i'll start you off... most diffs list the final drive, ie what the speed differential between input shaft and output to the wheels. switching ratios for a larger number (say going from a 3.3 to a 3.6) will give greater acceleration, at the expense of higher cruising rpm, poorer economy and ultimate top speed, if your car is gearing limited rather than power limited.
  6. that's a great result, love a bit of free money!
  7. I much prefer the old one, as Dan says, the new one is just generic supercar to me. looks like a McLaren 12C, which itself is a dull looking car. The old one looked great, its a car i'd love to own at some point, epitomises the long, low and wide look. And the rear lights... and the pop up headlights! proper car design
  8. can you afford R888Rs? don't they come in various compounds, you'd obviously want the stickiest compound for maximum cold tyre grip. or look at what tarmac rally cars use, they have to operate effectively from cold.
  9. id say tyres before a new diff. our track car with an open diff and cheap road tyres will spin up and inside wheel no problem when exiting tight corners. put decent tyres on and you can't spin the rear wheels at all, regardless of what you do. its somewhat boring, but considerably better for traction and thus times. Track tyres make a huge difference. And if you want to upgrade on the cheap, MOT motorsport have some great deals on Federal 595 RSRs albeit in slightly different sizes to usual. http://www.motmotorsport.co.uk/federal-595rs-r-18-c.asp
  10. an oldie but a goodie - BMW M3 on winter tyres vs family 4x4 on summer tyres, up a snow covered incline:
  11. theres no better way of spending £10k in my opinion.
  12. this is a bit of a non thread... yes new cars are pricey. if you're prepared to buy a 3-5 year or older car, you can buy a car that originally retailed for a lot more. however, some people like new cars, and are prepared to spend more to get one. personally if I had £40k to spend on a comfortable cruising device, i'd buy one of these, and have £5k in the bank for repairs. Assuming of course that fuel economy and servicing costs weren't an issue. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201609248089531?make=BENTLEY&model=CONTINENTAL&advertising-location=at_cars&radius=1500&sort=price-desc&price-to=35000&postcode=cv313bf&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&page=1 I'm quite glad there are loads of people buying new cars with finance packages, so there will be plenty of used cars around for me to pick up in 5 years time.
  13. yeah id agree with dan... the car can only react, it has no idea a hill is coming. and especially coming from applying zero throttle going downhill to applying lots of throttle to go up the other side. but sure when it is used on a faster cruise with gentler gradient changes it'll be absolutely fine.
  14. no pics dude (but a whole load of error popups )
  15. really looking forward to this. I love roadtrip shows, good banter, excellent locations and camera work, should be a great show. Used to love all the top gear Christmas specials - I could watch the Vietnam special, middle east special and Bolivia special over and over again. India and Patagonia not so much. So hoping for more of the same. Couldn't care less if they review cars or not - they could drive around in Tuk Tuks or be on skateboards, i'd still watch it. As been said before youtube and EVo are the place for serious car reviews, but even then theres only so many times you can watch a new sportscar being driven sideways around Blyton Park or Anglesey.
  16. what did you buy? and some pics are always appreciated
  17. this is perfect 10 garage, not obtainable 10 garage, that's a very different proposition. my obtainable list of cars probably looks like this: Nissan 350z BMW E63 M6 BMW E46 M3 Supercharged Honda S2000 BMW 530d (to tow the above to trackdays) Vauxhall VX220 perhaps a Porsche 911 if I work hard perhaps a R34 Skyline GTR if I work even harder TVR Cerbera BMW E92 M3
  18. almost certainly the wheel bearing.
  19. hmmmm, ten cars... well, gonna say vehicles... Prodrive car transporter (plus mechanics and spares) Pagani Zonda F Roadster Ferrari 250 GTO BMW M3 GT2 Jeff Koons Art car Radical SR8 Porsche 911 GT3RS 4.0 Aston Martin Vanquish S Audi RS6 Range Rover SVR on winter tyres Rolls Royce Phantom that pretty much covers all possible driving scenarios
  20. woohooo! sounds like a proper mission, but a good car is worth it! looking forward to seeing this rare unicorn!
  21. the bungs off ebay will be of equal quality to standard K1 ones anyways, its not the best quality exhaust. just measure the tips, get something to suit. I suspect 4" baffles will be fine. but if you're going for a standard exhaust you'll be fine anyways... I presume you're not going to fork out for a new standard exhaust from Nissan, either get a secondhand system for peanuts or if going new, get a scorpion or cobra resonated system. I had the cobra resonated and it sounds bloody lovely, and wont worry any noise limits.
  22. guessing you'll be visiting Croft and Oulton Park living that far north, both of which do 105db static days. so with bungs in you might be ok. Steer clear of Bedford Autodrome and a few places down south like goodwood, castle combe and the like, but I don't think that'll pose a problem for you! Is that the only mod? are you decatted as well? cos that adds a lot of volume. unfortunately phone apps aren't the best for decibelometers, you'd be better off getting bungs in, then taking it to a track to have it tested, most places will test you for free if they're testing cars anyway.
  23. you'll probably be alright over winter. plenty of cold air about for the intake and across the intercooler. i'd get it sorted before the temps start coming up again though.
  24. I know I know... gonna get it remapped soon, and then it'll make more torque AND power than an (early) zed, and still do 40mpg
