  1. I was going to put this in the Abbey Motorsport forum until I realised that they always run their test through the hubs so this couldn't happen at Abbey -
  2. AFAIK it's the 7 speed auto / paddle shift only
  3. I thought I'd add a bit more detail as I've had both and this thread deserves a better answer. Firstly - Merc salesmen saying they've not heard of them - well, that just says everything about salesmen, really. I was called once to a VIP eveing by special invite at Westway in Stockport and the salesman started trying to sell me a Juke - I said "Don't you want to know what I drive now - that might give you an idea about whether I'd actually be interested in a Juke?" Salesmen are idiots and should be ignored as much as possible. Anyway - a bit more detail about the infiniti Q60 / G37 I loved my Zed. The driving experience was so full, you always knew where the car was and how she was feeling on the road. The Q60 is a little less definite. The engine is great - hey, it's the same power plant, after all. I'm getting OK with the paddles - of course you can just drive her in auto but I prefer to be in the correct gear before I enter the roundabout / corner, and I hate having to plant the throttle to kick her down as you come off onto the straight, so if I'm not just pootling down to Asda for the shopping I tend to put her in DS and change gears myself. The biggest thing - and one I'll probably change before the warranty runs out is - she's too damn quiet. You have to glance at the revs so see whether you're already doing 4k or something because you can't hear it, and if I'm intent on keeping in the lane as you come off a roundabout I don't want to glance down, even for half a second, and you can't tell from the engine note - because you can't hear it! (By the way - you get 3 years warranty, so either I gotta do it before that or live with no engine note for 3 years!) The second is the paddle shift. A little story - my brother drives a Jag XKR - 420 horses, nice car, cream leather - but they only made automatics. I took the pi$$ out of him for 5 years saying "It's not a sports car if it's an automatic" and I still believe that's true. The paddles are better than just an auto box - but they're not as simple and direct or as meaningful as a manual box. In a nutshell - the Infiniti is a really Great GT. I mean that - as a Grand Tourer she's perfect. She's not a sports car. One of the comments AMT made is "It's a Nissan in a suit" and he's got that pretty right. On the plus side - on a long run the Infiniti is brilliant. Motorway driving in this country has been changed for me completely with the intelligent cruise control where she'll brake if the car in front of you brakes. Brilliant. The cabin is also a much nicer place to be - it's more comfortable, you've got electric everything, she just eats the miles, and I love it and you get to the end of your journey thinking "That was good, I'd like to do more of that" I've not taken her to Nurburgring yet. I will - but I'm not going to be chasing the sub 10 minutes times. She's not a sports car, that's it, and she'll take you round in a respectable time and you'll enjoy it - but if you're really going to try and eat that Porsche in front of you - do it in a Zed, not an Infiniti.
  4. I bought one, it's very nice to drive, just takes a little while to get used to the flappy paddles They are pretty rare - I've not seen another on the road! Plus, the 'general public' haven't even heard of Infiniti!
  5. Grey 350Z with -07 plate in Hadfield 2 comments: i) needs spacers! ii) needs a WASH! (Seriously, Jim, I can't comment on the dirt - my Infiniti is pretty much the same colour as yours and underneath all the grime and salt she's supposed to be white!)
  6. http://autoweek.com/article/car-life/12-rotor-wankel-engine-will-melt-your-brain Potentially - 3600 BHP Potentially - 14000 rpm Like - wow! I'd love to see this connected up for real! Even in the video here you can see how as the video progresses he made improvements and the running just got better and better - and I love the glass of water! Anyway - I thought this was interesting -
  7. It's not a problem, but mine seems to have a blank sheet between May and June. . . . . . Does this mean I get 50 forum points - or do I get blacklisted by Graham as being a troublemaker The printers really seem to have done a job this year, eh? However, the pictures are great and the calendar team wherever they are in the world all deserve a special "Thanks"

  9. Yeah, but James May is such a plonker ! My 9 year old grandaughter could get more out of the GTR than he does
  10. I was telling a girl in the pub about my uncanny ability to guess the day a woman was born just by feeling her breasts. "Really?" she said. "Go on then... Try." After about 30 seconds of fondling she began to lose patience. "Come on," she demanded, "What day was I born on?" "Yesterday?" I replied. ~~~ The police rang me yesterday to say they'd recovered my stolen three piece suite. Which was nice of them. It was starting to look a bit tatty. ~~~ There are literally thousands of apps available, so how come all iPhone users have opted for that app that turns you into a self-obsessed dick? ~~~ Some guy knocked on my door today and said, "I have a parcel for your next door neighbour." I said, "You've got the wrong house then mate." ~~~ I've just seen an advert in my local newspaper. ACCOUNTANT NEEDED! £35,000 - £40,000 So I phoned them up and said, "The answer is -£5,000" ~~~ If the letters fall off your company logo, is it a bad sign? ~~~ My wife told me I can be a right bastard sometimes, so I chose Mondays and Wednesdays... ~~~ A radical Muslim group detonated a bomb in our local Primark last Saturday afternoon. Until they phoned up to claim responsibility, nobody noticed. ~~~ Who led the Jews through a semi-permeable membrane? Osmoses ~~~ I was in a queue at the ATM, and the old lady in front of me asked if I could help her check her balance. So I pushed her over. ~~~ Me and my wife have decided not to have kids. The kids are taking it pretty hard ~~~ No wind or rain forecast for tomorrow. The Met Office have advised everyone to make unnecessary journeys. ~~~ What's the difference between red and green? F***-all, apparently, if you're a cyclist. ~~~ I remember the first time I saw a universal remote control, and I thought to myself. "Well this changes everything" ~~~ This girl on the bus was talking very loudly into the mobile glued to her ear. "Excuse me," I said. "The whole bus doesn't want to hear your conversation." "Chill out man," she replied. "I is jus' rappin' wiv me bro innit?" I felt really guilty. If I'd known she had learning difficulties I wouldn't have mentioned it. ~~~ My wife and I got into an argument because I accused her of being stupid. Eventually, she jumped up out of her seat, and yelled, "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't walk out that door!" I replied, "Because the plane hasn't landed yet..." ~~~ How do you make a dish washer into a snow blower? Give her a shovel ~~~ "Phew,at least you could open the window when you have a sh**" said my wife. "I would but all the other passengers on the bus would complain about the draft", I replied ~~~ Can't believe I got sacked on my very first day as a signwirter. ~~~ I'm brilliant at Jigsaws. I got one that said '2-3 Years' on the Box and did it in one night - how amazing is that?!
  11. When do we need to pay for this, please? Will Martinmac PM again?
  12. And here's mine (Though I'm also one of these "I sold it 3 months ago" ex-ragtop Zed owners now)
  13. I had Goodyear Eagle F1s on my Zed for the summer tyres, really liked them, but they were the older F1s not the newer asymmetrics so don't know what the new ones are like Photo here after several laps of Anglesey in 30C heat which is why they look pretty sticky!
  14. I bought my Berks HFCs from Concept Z, had no problems, parts shipped by US Postal Service and then delivered this end by good old Royal Mail As it happens, HMRC never charged me the duty or VAT, no idea why not, but I got away with it. . . . I buy stuff from the USA for work as well, and even when they do still charge you the VAT & Duty it can still be worth while, like a tooling part, price over here was £350 and price in the US was $291 so saved quite a bit, takes about 2 - 3 weeks, so not super fast unless you get it sent FedEx or something and that can be expensive. Don't be frightened - work out what you'll actually pay, add on the VAT as you'll probably get hit up for it, but if the price works - there's no reason not to give it a go. I may not spend serious money with just an ordinary individual, but a proper business should be OK - if in doubt, you can always call them up as the phone isn't expensive, just allow for the 5 hours time difference (east coast) and 8 hours time difference (west coast) so you actually call in office hours. (Just don't expect to talk to a receptionist - all US companies use automated switchboards - ugh) Anyway - I found Concept Z pretty good. Edit - handling charge from Royal Mail was £10 on the tooling part above - so still not a dealbreaker

  16. Mark I was thinking of this thread the other day, now I have an Infiniti . . . .looking on the GTM website they say the 4 levels of tuning on the twin S/C kit are 560 / 600 / 640 and 800 hp I now have an infiniti Q60 (which is really just a G37 but 2014MY as they did a name change for some reason) 1) Can you say what level of S/C the engine will take before you have to go all through upgrading the internals as well? I thought conventional wisdom on the Nissan 350 / 370 was it would take mid 400s without forged internals - does this mean even on the 560 Stage 1 kit you've got to upgrade the internals as well or will the latest VQ37VHR engines take 560 or 600 or something? 2) If the power is pushed up to this level - do you have to open the exhaust up to 3" all through or something as well? Basically - what else do you have to do apart from the $9795 twin S/C kit?

  18. Isn't it time they brought back capital punishment?
  19. It's Dave Greenwood and Brian . . .something else (He's NOT Lockwood, I can remember that much)
  20. Mine's another one of these really difficult to work out ones. . . . Ian Philip Hampton
  21. My brother has an oil burner Alfa - one of his issues is that you need to clear the soot filter properly or about every 2 years it'll cost you about £400 to replace it. The fix is fairly strainghtforward - you've got to burn the filter out with a good hard run at least once a month, so not all bad news It's still cost him about £3K in repairs over the last 4 years, but if you buy an Alfa I guess you must expect that . . . .
  22. I'd definitely say it's worth it. My post following the drive back to Manchester after Abbey UpRev'd her back in 2009 is probably lost deep in the mists but I can still remember how much more alive she felt - and she seemed like she was enjoying it almost as much as I was, as it unlocked so much which had been restricted by Nissan. I can remember even now waiting to overtake a PITA Merc who was hogging the overtaking lane and when he finally pulled over and I said "OK, now go, girl" she just loved it and was. . . umm . . .well, perhaps I was mildly illegal by the time I got to his back bumper and just blew dust as we went past, and I swear she felt like she was able to relish the acceleration, and the smile on my face was . . . . ah,well, this is why you love Zeds, eh. It's also definitely better after you change the stupid stock Y pipe and also better after you change to High Flow Cats - but even on it's own it's worth it. I was surprised to see Coldel saying it had cost him 2 grand - Wow! I seem to remember the Y pipe was about £200 and I seem to recall the UpRev licence is about £400 so doing this the first time was all done in the hundreds, not thousands. Of course, I then took her back and remapped her about 4 times in total after the Berks and the plenum spacer and. . . .and . . .so all in all I spent 2 grand, but just for the Uprev I don't think it'll cost that
