supercharge or replace?

M135i would be a perfect replacement and a miles better car than a z, quite cheap to get to 400+bhp too.

6cyl, twin turbo, Rwd, handles like an m3 etc

this is a good shout - I was going to suggest a tuned 335i but its too heavy for track work, more a fast A road cruiser. But an M135i is a good call - although pricey to buy.

I'm sure they're awesome but so dull they're everywhere you turn :(

That's because they're very good. I cannot understand why people refuse to buy the best thing simply because they're common, that's always seemed daft to me.

It's like buying a Hoover vacuum cleaner instead of a Dyson, or a Hotpoint washing machine instead of a Bosch one.

Some good points above.

As a road car i think the zed has enough power, but, imho on the track its either shy on some extra ponies or carrying too many pounds. However, its pretty easy to drive so you can get the best out of it, stick 400hp under the bonnet and it would be a handful, fine if your used to big hp rear wheel drive cars, but coming from std its a big step

400bhp in a zed is no where near being a handful imho . It's what the 370 should have had from the start . So glad I never bought a porker . Glad your getting yours sorted though Adrian .

Charge it and enjoy :)

I don't doubt for a minute that there great

I personally just find them dull most things I like the look of I can't afford

That's why I went with the 370z I just loved the look it was quick and comfortable with some refinement and I feel like I'm driving somthing out of the norm!

Not to be different just that it feels like an event to me when I get it out at the weekend

a fast BMW is just different to a fast Nissan... first thing I noticed swapping from the zed to the beemer was how quiet the beemer was, it was so well insulated from road noise, tyre noise, wind noise engine noise.

but put your foot down and it piles on speed at a rapid pace, even more so than the zed as the torque kicks in earlier.

handling-wise, the zed was probably a little livelier - but my bmw currently has less than brilliant front tyres, and they understeer anyway, so the turn in isn't sharp. both cars feel weighty, so that's about the same. although the bmw has a longer wheelbase which affects its nimbleness - but a 1 series would be closer to a zed in that respect. I think with some decent tyres and a fast road alignment the beemer will feel fine. add an exhaust for a bit more aural drama and you're there.

but the general quality of the beemer is streets ahead of the Nissan - everything you touch feels great, there are no rattles, everything electric works. but I bought mine as a cruiser rather than a b road weapon.

if I wanted something really engaging on the b road, it would have to be something lighter or a proper sports car. had a ride in daz's cheap Porsche Boxster S at Bedford and it was really nice - sounded great, handled really well. But as discussed, it wouldn't be hugely faster than a zed round a track.

Nothing wrong with a hotpoint washing machine! Mine cleans my clothes just fine and sometimes I get a free floor wash too

Ironically I have a Hotpoint washer dryer too  I'm a cheapskate when it comes to things like that though

I do have a Dyson Cinetiq though, which I love dearly

Thankfully it's what she actually wants  and her parents said they'd buy it (thank god! they're a fortune!)

I've got her a george foreman grille (again, it was a suggestion!) some new speakers for her car and a bottle of her favourite booze

She's a teacher type, you know the sort Dan, enjoys cooking and cleans up after people by force of habit

Il give my two cents as ive dealt with this dilemma over the last year and is just what works best for me.

Nothing out there worth upgrading to for the power (plus don't want a bmw as too common, vx220 or lotus il probably stack it based on my friends experiences and anything else is too expensive)

Almost jacked it all in for a 996 turbo few weeks back but costs once again outweighed the zed for similar power and got worried at price if something went wrong - I do know a Porsche specialist but even his mates rates are shocking

Moral of the story is I have been sitting on a supercharger for over a year and at any point could of sold S/C and the zed separately and raised enough money to buy something else.....nothing popped up so im going with the S/C...........oh and if you are patient you can source all the S/C bits for less than 7k ;) although I was lucky getting my Supercharger second hand

I was going to suggest 135/335 too due to their cost and tuning potential, do need LSD to get the best out of them though.

Most likely will be a 135i coupe for me next year after house purchase, toying with selling the zed now for something else, decisions

I can tell you that a 420bhp M135i is an event lol

Just ask Docwra on here ;)

420hp is low boost

Honest answer (you arent going to like it) ......... unless you are a diehard 350/370 fan then buy something else thats newer, handles better, is safer, more economical and has more bells and whistles and more resale value. Even if someone offered to charge my 350 and make it the same power as my 135 I wouldnt do it, the 1 is just a much nicer place to be and a much nicer thing to drive. Couple that with the £7K you wont see back, the chance of increased unreliability and the fact that to 99% of the population you are still just driving an aging Nissan .......... ;)

That's why I could not plough 7k into the zed to s/c it as it is more than the car is worth! Rather put it into a newer car.

@ Adrian you were the one saying I must buy a Cayman  If I did it would be for 59 plate onwards.

Oh, and 135i coupes are rocking horse @*!#, I dont know where this "common" thing comes from - IIRC BMW sold about 1200 E82's in the UK over 5 years and only 40 in 2012.

As Ekona says, lots of people already having a car doesnt really affect how good it is anyway.

For a daily driver I would have a Bmw/Audi/Merc ( which I have ) for me though the German stuff is boring to look at and doesn't excite me enough .....great cars though and I'm sure a 135 would be great ! We have a Merc which is nice and refined and great on fuel ( c250 cdi , 210 bhp and 370ftlb I average 47mpg ) and the contrast of getting in my old charged zed is great , yes it's louder ,less refined and bad on fuel but I love it , looks great , quite rare ( compared with Bmw and the like ) and goes ok as well :)

All depends what you are used to as mentioned, there are plenty of stacked zeds around with 276hp, let alone 400hp :)
