We currently have guys building Toyota, Audi and Porsche WEC cars, a few F1 projects, racing yachts and OE stuff for Porsche, Caterham F1 were a major client of ours too, were being the operative word So if you know any aircraft engineers or composite production guys looking for work ........... GizmoGold Posted October 15, 2015 Share Posted October 15, 2015 I'm a consultant engineer for a small company I've worked on projects ranging from designing pipework for a nuclear power plant to spending a week at a car factory (not sure if I should say who) to help increase efficiency on the production line. I hate my job, I hate the army but can't afford to leave. Having a newborn baby and wife, doesn't make leaving an easy option. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare mate, my cousin was in the army for I think 14 years, after half that he fell out of love with it and also had a family, when he finally left he said the worst decision of his life was not doing it sooner. Have you tried career coaching or something? It sounds a bit namby-pamby but the coaches are quite brutally objective in actual fact, and can help get you some long term direction on an exit strategy and into something else you might want to do? Been offshore since I left school, not so great with new working rota's recently introduced, but still affords me lots of nice things in life as a trade off for working crappy shifts!! Give it a few years and i'll be looking for something to do a bit closer to home, once I get my Masters completed!! Life's too short to stick to one career, I wanna try other things! I help companies join up the dots properly between their online/instore/phone/etc. I do things like: a few iPhone launches*; help a TV/Broadband company sell more effectively and keep people happy when things go wrong; work on the launch of a telco in the US. Recently I've branched out into training and online design consultancy, because I want to grow my business. It is a pretty good job, all in. I did a degree in physics & laser-science because I want to know how everything works! I built websites the whole time I was there, and this became my career. * this doesn't mean throwing it into the distance, ballistically.
