grahamc Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 Good news.... as the blue escort will be moving to a new owner shortly, it looks like this may actually be getting restored this winter Hoping that I can get the car in and start getting it stripped at some point in December! I have taken Friday next week off and will be getting the gasket and fluid service done. Then it will be getting a tune-up Quote

grahamc Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 Well had the car up on a ramp with a bodywork specialist who went over it and there is a bit of a list of things to be done, but not as bad as expected Roof - remove sunroof Bumpers - remove current bumpers Front fenders - need some repairs Sills - both sides need a fair bit of work Doors - both sides need a fair bit of work - going to repair the standard ones, want to try and keep them Drivers floorpan - needs a section removed and replaced Looking to get the car in sometime in December and will be stripped, blasted, repaired, resprayed (some bright blue colour), new bumpers, fender mirrors, arch extenders, wheels and rear half cage (welded in). Still deciding on the seats and clocks, but thinking along the lines of classic racing seats, modern clocks in standard dash, retro radio with hidden speakers, refurbed gearknob and steering wheel and not sure what else........ Engine wise, it will remain standard for now, but I am seriously considering some triple webbers Quote
grahamc Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 240z goes into bodyshop this week and the whole project will begin What is everyones thoughts on rollcages in these cars? Im considering a 4 point cage for impact resistance, harness bar and some added rigidity. 1 Quote
Sam Mcgoo Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I have no idea about roll cages, but am looking forward to watching this progress with envy. 1 Quote

Im considering a 4 point cage for impact resistance, harness bar and some added rigidity. 6 point minimum IMO - 4 point is either a rear cage or a roll bar - the (ever ongoing / on hold Mini project for my daughter) we put a 6 point FIA approved cage with the added diagonals and door bars. But it depends what you want it for - to make the car stiffer for handling and to give a mount for harnesses a 4 point will do that - to keep you shaken but not stirred in a major off then go 6 at least EDIT: PS Watching with intrest - great project Edited December 1, 2014 by Keyser Quote
leonk Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I'm with Sam Likewise, looking forward to progress reports. I have to say, there are some great build/ restoration threads at the moment on the forum, both modern and classic. 2 Quote

I also think a front cage will detract in the event of a future sale. Harness, rigidity and some additional impact/rollover protection is good enough (I hope!). Quote
