Well said Colin, if I have to pull out I always let the other person know ;)

That's the point - letting those that matter know that you can't make it

i quit being an REO after organising an event where there was at least 10 people coming and another 5 maybe's. after waiting an hour no one turned up. felt like a right billy.

And this is why I usually say 'maybe' to attending anyway :)

Trouble is if everyone says "maybe" then nothing would be organized

This is true - I refuse to accept 'maybes' is a total waste of everyone's time

I'm not spitting my dummy out, I'm just stating my intentions. I agree that it's pointless in not committing and saying maybe, so I should probably not do it.

Lol, you need to get yourself to a scottish meet :p

Whoa, you guys are always doing ones on the west coast. That's fine but it's usually on a weekend or a day I'm busy. Not your fault I know.

I tried to set up a weekly or bi monthly mini meet where I could put faces to names and catch up with some owners in real life. Maybe teach or learn some DIY's but No one was up for it. I know we have a decent member base in Dundee and Fiferland. Maybe they are just as busy as I am

Wondered when you would show your face:)

He won't though as he's only a 'maybe'

We have always seen at the Wales weekend, for example, some have to pull out in the last week and most have let us know - absolutely fine and has given the opportunity for reserves to take their place.

It's the no news either before the event about pulling out or the lack of news/apology afterwards for not attending when organizers have taken the trouble to set something up that is not only plain rude and can disrupt the event itself, but as we have seen above ^^^^ discourage future meet organization. There are precious few who have time to organize events and we simply do not want to lose them due to timewasters.

But it is also a message that says if you do get known to mess organizers about then don't be surprised if your name gets taken off an entry list, particularly when spaces are limited.

could i suggest meet organisers pm a mobile number out to all prospective attendees and in case of emergencies people can text it? not everyone; especially new memebers have met people before or are likely to have peoples contact details. or instant access to a PC or wifi enabled phone.

but surely most people could manage a text these days in an emergency. just need to make sure people have this info thats all.

I posted when I couldnt make the Zedfest meet and felt a total shite for not going, but then I couldn't walk let alone drive. I did PM Martinmac and Arkwright to say about it.

Then again, when the Mrs re-shaped our car before the previous LakeZ trip I still made it, eventually!
