Demolition49 Posted December 5, 2011 Share Posted December 5, 2011 so my brand new few weeks old... barely broken in r6 worth £8000... was lifted last friday within 3 hours of me parking it... its alarm goes off in the middle of london, sombody calls the police to report it, in the mean time they smash off my numberplate and leave it in the motorcycle parking bay exactly where my motorbike was... so what i dont get is, if the police got an emergency call of a crime in progress with a registration of a van, WHY oh WHY didnt they check it out... the van had fake plates but still! they didnt even check!!!! if they did check theyd notice my motorbikes numberplate on the floor on the only motorcycle bay in the street which is where the bike was reported as being stolen!!! so i come back after a hard days work to see my brand new baby gone... 8000 out of pocket... thank you very much... police... absolutely USELESS. If they found my reg they could of looked me up and called me but not a hint of effort! and to make matters worse insurance isnt paying up because they say i didnt secure my bike with the chain i specified in my policy... i use my almax series 4 at home and my oxford monster out and about... paired with an alarm disc lock!!! so i am pretty much devastated, im basically 100% not getting my bike back the police didnt even seem that interested in the whole thing! what scumbags! just thought id vent my anger... really is disheartening that if you have anything nice... i.e a 350z or a nice new bike... it gets automatically targeted to be stolen/damaged... this world is truly messed up!!! now i am forced to get another bike on finance as all of my savings and money are at an all time low... which i could of dealt with if i had something to show for it!!! what a great Christmas present! AWFUL and dont care just do what ever they can to get out as normal...was that your ebay ad i saw with a litle vent about it being stolen??? The police were useless on both occasions. One time my car was broken into, completely ruined both doors using screwdrivers, wrecked the dash trying to remove the stereo which was bolted in. When they couldn't get it out they just smashed it. Police caught the **** who done it but as he had no money (drug addict) i couldnt get anything back. Also they wouldnt give me any off his details. Junkie probably gets bugger all jail time. You catch the criminal and **** him, you get a record, maybe lose job, HE GETS COMPO off YOU using legal aid "lawyers for u" type firms paid for by OUR taxes. Hearing stories like this gets me . Its bad enough to have something stolen but when you get no help from the police and your insurance co, that is so not right. I would write a letter to Bernard Hogan-Howe about your conncerns with his force (he comes across as genuinely wanting to sort out police failings) and take issue with the insurance company in that you took all reasonable steps to secure the bike when away from home. Might even be worth asking a specialist solicitor whether their 'small print' does enable them to escape a pay-out as they are suggesting? rabbitstew Posted December 6, 2011 Share Posted December 6, 2011 Not being funny, but id never leave my R1 anywhere without chaining it up to something immovable, unless its just outside a pub or somewhere where ive got my eye on it. With a new bike like that, the thieves must have thought xmas was coming early if it was just sitting there. It will definitely be broken up for spares, no two ways about it. How many people are going to question you? Is there any CCTV around that area? Check the wording of the policy very carefully, and perhaps have a no win/no fee firm have a look over it too. One letter from a solicitor and they will likely change their mind with the payout. coldel Posted December 6, 2011 Share Posted December 6, 2011 Awful news mate - my brother is a bike fan and has three of them chained to the ground in a locked/alarmed garage at his parents place. Insurance companies are getting worse and worse, they refuse to pay out citing issues with the event and even if they are in the wrong. There are numerous stories of people being told they wont get paid then going to the media and lo and behold a payout when they are exposed as literally 'taking the pi$$' - for that amount of money, go to a solicitor get the policy looked over - well worth the money. Insurance companies will jump through hoops to not pay you out, its up to you to combat them remember they couldnt care less about what you are going through. As for the police, yeah some good ones, but generally a lot of rubbish out there. Unless they are collecting fines or generally just doing something out of spite they really arent interested in chasing up something difficult like what you described. Whenever I have needed the police, when I had my car stolen and when I was assaulted both times they were utterly useless, I expect little or no help from police whenever problems arise and cannot see that changing in the near future. Tell the police you wish to take up a private prosectution case and you demand the details be passed to your solicitor. You will get them then. What you do with them is entirely up to you. Contact the ombudsman too if you have no joy, but be sure of your facts with regards to what the policy says, what the chain you used was and the specs of the one you were supposed to use. Gutted for you mate, but hopefully things will work themselves out for you. If you want me to have an eye over the policy I'd be happy to do so, I've won stuff like this before against insurers (Elephant and claiming for the rear glass in the soft-top, they had to change their wording after I pointed out their mistake!). andlid Posted December 6, 2011 Share Posted December 6, 2011 just fyi, the chain used when it was stolen can't be compared to the almax chain... they're completely different class. I'm not sure how the insurance company think you'll be lugging a 30kg chain around though. I'm sure it's only during night time, unless there is a clause in there. I've checked my policy and it's more where it's kept at night and then you 'just' need to prove it's locked while not there, and you've used 1 chain and a disc lock, that in my mind is enough. (you also have an alarm!) It'll be broken for parts so have a look online (did you data tag the fairing at all?) PM me some details about it and I'll have a look over here...
