lilsheepshagga_turbo
herrow guys n girls, basically needing some advice and input, ive asked my friends about this and whenever i mention it they just slap me and tell me to keep the zed or give me badge snob talk. ive had the zed for 3.5 years now and i think its time to move on, been toying with the idea for a while now but not really done anything about it. I have a budget of about 30k which is ALOT of cars i know but i would obviously prefer not to spend all 30k of it..my current short list is as follows: vx220 turbo/elise 111r + a hot hatch ie focus st or similar Vxr8 RS4 S5 M3/M5 Z4 35i I was all set for buying an m5 until my brother bought one and his mpg is truly scary. he averages 9 mpg his 85 quid tank lasted him 160 miles and that is just ridiculous I use to own a vx220 turbo and its the only car ive ever wanted to be back in, nothing really compares to it and my only slight reservation is: when i use to own one i was 11.3 stone, now due to my gyimg regime im 16 stone, not 100% sure ill fit comfortably in one anymore, MPG was great and they go like stink, remap and exhaust takes you upto 245 bhp and in a car that weight 800kgs it really is rapid. Vxr8.. theres a decent one very local to me that is going for 20k, I LOVVVVEEEEEEE American V8's with a passion and a very very big part of me is saying go for this. its a 2009 and only covered 11k miles, completely standard and manual hoping mr Dring could shed some light on this.. With regards the RS4 and S5, ive driven an RS4 a couple years back and rememeber thinking it was absolutely everything a car should be. very decent low mileage ones again from a main audi dealer for about 25k.. the S5 is my grown up choice, 340 bhp and a v8 soundtrack, but all the reviews ive read or averagey about it but ive never driven one so i dont know. M3 4l v8....quite possibly the best car on the road out the box.. top end of my budget (one of my workers is at stratstone bmw and he is constantly reminding me of friends and family discount) i can get a 1 or 2 year old m3 for under 30k and thats ALOT of car for the money.. M5.. quite possibly the most amazing car ive ever driven. 6th gear pulls like the zed 3rd gear (my own zed has been remaped) and it was comfy and the interior is beautiful, just the mpg scares the poo out of me.. The new Z4, again a slightly more mature choice and dont shoot me for saying this i think there stunning, really really good looking car, dont know much else about it but my g/f would be happy with the z4 choice, or i make her buy one instead.. haha OR Should i save up for another 1/2 year to a year and buy myself an aston vantage?!?! hahaha Sorry for the long post, any opinions or helpful knowledge would be appreciated gents.. -ho ps: it also means my zed is most likely going to be up for sale very soon.. im thinking about changing cars just after the festive period
DoogyRev
All the cars on your list would be great cars to drive , but the thought of waiting another 6 months to get a Vantage would win hands down
Zugara
Get a small loan and buy the Vantage NOW
spursmaddave
Surely the M5 doesn't average 9mpg... I can understand that figure when you boot it but as an everyday average?
rabbitstew
Tough choice. I was going to say M5 until you mentioned the mpg. My god 9mpg is rediculous. The VXR8.... i drove the australian version of this when i was over there and just found it boring. I think id be looking at the RS4 or the M3. Both are incredible cars. Depends on what you want though really, as you have both 2 seater sportscars (vx220), big GT cars and 4 door family cars in your list! LRF4N
Nice to see ur going up in the world lol My mate hated the way his amv8 drove and swapped it for an e92 m3 Surprised u didn't mention Porsche in ur list? For that money I'd be looking at a

Wasso
RS4 all the way, covers every angle in my book. If I don't get a 370 next it'll be the RS4.
EH 370z
RS4 all the way, covers every angle in my book. If I don't get a 370 next it'll be the RS4. RS4 great family hot rod, even the Avant! I built an estate for stock in 2007. White, with anthracite great alloys and wing mirrors & a black optic pack Looked amazing http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=white+audi+rs4+avant&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbm=isch&tbnid=umoHwE0F3CctiM:&imgrefurl=http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D2716270&docid=UUpFtZsj-Ht2pM&w=1024&h=768&ei=_ySHTrm5Loms8QPflshi&zoom=1&biw=1280&bih=843&iact=rc&dur=91&page=1&tbnh=150&tbnw=193&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=85&ty=
lilsheepshagga_turbo
i know all the cars i have listed are completely different to each other, i suppose thats my problem.. im gonna drop the dream of amv8 atm.. maybe in the next 10 years rather than 2... ill be honest the rs4 is currently my favourite but there is non near me and i really want to drive one again before i pay 25k for one. the rs4 with a tubi exhaust is just automotive porn but then again so is the vxr8 with wortec/walkinshaw exhaust. bleh.... im not a big fan of the way the 996 looks. i wish i could afford a 997 c4s or a gt3 they are perfect in my eyes. i have more money available but i really want to stick to below 30k thats my problem :( -ho
Ekona
All those cars on your list are completely different, so start at the very start: What must the car have/do? RWD/FWD/4WD? 2 or 4 seats? Hardtop or convertible? NA or FI? Does reliability matter? Toy or commuter? Answer those questions honestly and you'll narrow your list down a lot. RWD/FWD/4WD? = rwd or 4wd, definately not fwd!!!!! 2 or 4 seats= again it makes no difference, i have a micra as a daily driver+ the g/f has a bmw 123d coupe and a mr2 Hardtop or convertible? = hardtop preferably as the g/f has an mr2 but with the elise/vx220 i would get rid of the micra and buy a better run around. NA or FI?= i prefer NA, bit of a cliche but there's no replacement for displacement Does reliability matter? yes... im not that mechanically minded, i can do little things ie change brakes pads and exhaust but not engine work... Toy or commuter? bita both, dont like driving the micra around everywhere if im honest haha its embaressing. Answer those questions honestly and you'll narrow your list down a lot. Vik54
For that money I'd be looking at an Exige - you're obviously tempted by Loti
Ekona
Indeed, I wouldn't be giving a VXT a second glance with that budget. It's well within 997 or Cayman S money, as well as a TTRS or 355 if you wanted.
LRF4N
NSX? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3210569.htm
Ekona
Christ that's an ugly NSX, poor car didn't deserve that Why won't people just leave the bloody things alone and appreciate them for the stunningly beautiful car they are instead of bolting plastic tat to them! I think I'd be tempted to run a Caterham for a while, just to say you've done it. Buy now when the weather is (normally) crap, run it for a while and sell at the end of next summer, you may even turn a profit and almost certainly won't lose out. Benefit of running a shed is that you can get away with stuff like this. I think I'd almost certainly be looking at C6 'Vettes too and the odd decent Mustang as well if you like Yank V8 noises. Walbertonio
Well, I'm slightly biased of course, but you could do a lot worse than the R8. Ticks a lot of boxes, very comfortable cruiser, epic carrying capacity and that sound. 30k is a nice round figure though, have you considered: TVR T350? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2838818.htm Corvette C6? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2892040.htm
lilsheepshagga_turbo
Well I've narrowed it down to 2 cars now. The M5 and the vxr8. I can test drive a m5 anytime as my brother has one and there is a vxr8 at a vxl dealership very near me so watch this space. Either that or I'm going to grow up a bit and buy a golf R32... Thanks for the input guys -Ho
EH 370z
Try this. Well priced and its had a carful previous owner!! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201139417516202/sort/priceasc/usedcars/transmission/manual/model/vxr8/make/vauxhall/page/1/postcode/ts36as/radius/1501?logcode=p
LRF4N
So uv narrowed it up to 3 then not 2? Il narrow it up to 4 lol, u could get an is-f with change left over
Lexx
Ho.....the VXR8.....is that the one at Evans Halshaw on the bypass? (EDIT: The one Toby has actually linked too) If so.....its my old one! I sold it to them for £18k. So they aint put too much of a mark up on. PM me your number and I'll tell you the cars history. You could get a Harrop s/c fitted for £6k inc remap and have yourself a 550bhp RWD monster
lilsheepshagga_turbo
Im a little bit gutted in essence, sorry Al i dont mean this to offend you in anyway but i cant bringmyself to spend 20k on a crash damaged car bud, i saw how much damage there was and it just wouldnt sit easy on my conscience as such. sorry well im back to square one, on a plus note i have agreed a sale on my car with a family member just they dont want it till march so you guys are stuck with me till then, just a bit more head banging on deciding what to do... -ho ps: i appreciate all the input so far
