If I was looking something like this https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201711071031802?make=FORD&model=MUSTANG

Or something like this to be a bit different https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201707297840541?make=CHEVROLET&model=CHEVELLE Although this one is a little over budget but maybe with a little nudging?

1960-70's Dodge Charger?. B)

The R/T version maybe above your budget of £20K but worth having a look at imho.

@GMballistic

Son number one is about to get a Charger so I would be seen as copying ... also I want a cruiser rather than a muscle car

 Given your family connections Hugh, have you considered importing something or is that already the plan?

How about a 5th gen ford Thunderbird. I've always quite liked these.  Suicide rear doors!!

Well I really want to buy now and want as little hassle as possible ... I want the car to come to me rather than having to work at it ... I'm too old

You can leave most of it, but can you take the wheels away and bring back some better ones!

Nice. I have a bit of a soft spot for retro trucks that are on the deck, Datsun, VW or yank tank, they all look ace.
