second opinion with my oil pressure please

I bought my 08 350z about 10weeks ago and noticed I have lower than normal oil pressure, needle barely registers at warm idle and only 30ish at 2k which as per fsm is too low, now after all my reading on here and Google I'm almost certain it's the oil gallery gaskets,

so.... I went to a Nissan specialist near me in Newcastle and he's pretty certain it's that aswell, but he said it's quicker to pull engine? and that there could be a chance of damage to the bottom end?

just wondered what people's thoughts are on this? he said it could be a couple thousand? (finance company will be dealing with costs)

Very much doubt your bottom end will be damaged.

But don't take my word for it.

2k for repair sounds a little steep.

Mine was only half that.

Please don't let it put you off the HR.

Get it sorted and it'll reward you with many miles of driving with silly grin 😊

well it's been quite some years since ive touched pistons as I've been all about rotary for a while but even i was a little bit suspicious about the bottom end damage, I've read a few threads that people have done these gaskets in situ but this gup said the sump needs to come off for the front case to come off hence why he wants to pull the block out? anyone else think that's needed or is he fishing for a few extra hours labour?

Yeah. lower sump off, to access the 2 front bolts and then front cover off.

Set up your timing marks as per the workshop manual and lock the engine, then pull the chains to get access to the galley gasket covers.

Make sure that you fit the uprated gaskets.

I knew someone would know for definite, this guy "specialist" although mainly does nissan 4x4s he was certain that it was quicker for him to pull the engine and do it on a stand but wasn't sure if he was just trying for extra hours that's all

Horsham and abbey would be the ones I'd love to go to but I'm in Newcastle so a bit of a trek to be honest :( waiting to see what the finance company and garage say as I have to let them try first :/

Tbh, if the finance co are footing the entire bill then just give teh car to the garage and let them get on with it. As long as they confirm to you that the uprated gaskets have been fitted, who cares how they do it?

Do 03-05 VQ35DE engines have these oil gallery gaskets?

Yes, but the DE gaskets are a different shape and the DE also does not have the same failure rate as the HR.

well after a nice phone call with hdev I've decided that if I get the go ahead from finance company I'll be going to them as they said they can turn the car around within about day and half :) garage have said they won't fix it so hopefully finance company kick their heads in and make them cough up :)

I had the oil gallery gaskets blow on my HR but gauge still had 12psi showing at hot idle, I took it to a local garage who had never heard of the issue, took them 10hrs in total from start to finish in labour and I purchased all of the gaskets, coolant etc myself. Engine did not come out as it's not needed but radiator, front bumper etc had to come off for access.

All in all for parts & labour it cost me about £780 that was 10hrs labour, oil & filter, coolant and gaskets I thought this was reasonable tbh.

Surely must be a local garage with enough knowledge to do the job if you buy all of the parts needed. I got mine done at JapTech in Hull which is roughly 2 1/2hrs from you. They had never heard of the issue before, they have an extremely good reputation and after the work was carried out supplied me with dozens of photos and said it was fairly straightforward.

I tried to get mine done on warranty but the company had a loop hole so I had to shell out for it :(

yeah I'm going to try a few others but if you look at my earlier posts a "nissan" specialist 2mins from said they have to pull the engine and would take couple weeks so I'm dubious about other places that hasn't been tried and tested by the like of the guys and girls on here
