Fuel

I don't have the luxury of having a Shell garage anywhere near where I live to run my car on Optimax, so my two choices are BP Ultimate at 97ron or Tesco Momentum at 99ron. I have ran my car on both and seen absolutely no difference in MPG or felt any difference driving but still would like some opinions on what fuel I should be using ? What's everyone else using ?

Used Tesco for a few months then BP for a few months, not bothered that BP is only 97ron I know it's not going to kill my car as it's good quality fuel. Only thing I have never been keen on is buying fuel from supermarkets like Tesco even though Momentum is claimed to be 99ron the general quality of a supermarket fuel is pretty poor !

For the TT 350 and the R35 for heavy track use, I use Tesco Momentum 99 and had absolutely no issues.

I also use Shell V-Power Nitro+

However big price difference at the moment: 102.9 for Tesco and 117.9 for Shell.

here's what i don't understand, when people say super markets fuels is bad quality,

because doesn't all fuel come from the same tankers at what ever docks fuel gets delivered too?

so is it a case of their own under ground tanks having dirt in them or what?

i'll also say, every Z ive owned has never had anything more than 97 octane in them, because that's all there is here in my area, makes no sense to use a quarter to half tank to drive elsewhere to get a higher octane

The only reason I don't touch my local Tesco for fuel is down to a dirty batch a couple of years ago that affected loads of local motorists and led to various claims going in.In fairness this could happen on any forecourt, however my company fuel card is Shell so I always use Shell Nitro in the Z to maximise points on the old loyalty card :)

From a friend who used to deliver the stuff.

Better to buy from a high turnover outlet. 97 plus Ron is a pretty specialist fuel, far less is sold than the low grades. You stand a better chance that the supermarket outlets will have reasonably fresh stuff in their storage tanks.

Here we go

Painful, isn't it?

But you still take the time to comment!

First post was to help op, second post was because I could see it turning into a supermarket fuel is good/ crap debate again ;)

Interesting.

When I had a zed my nearest Shell was a 34 mile round trip.(supermarkets are further)

But sometimes though it was 17 miles there and 34 miles back. :teeth::lol:

People like Ebized,Will370,glrnet and DarrenB have also sometimes done the 34 mile (scenic) return route to my place.

supermarket fuel...few years ago i had a misfiring problem, which i sorted by cleaning silicone off the coil packs and trapped dirt, the car jerked and hesitated on supermarket fuel, when i put bp or shell it happened very rarely

in America i know gas stations get inspected for quality. here in uk you are open to the elements, yes we get good quality fuel among the best quality in the world. Premium fuel has been proven to make no difference to consumption. Although in some cases the car runs smoother and responds a tiny bit better. But theres no proof of this, just personal experience.

I also posted first as a helpful post. That gets ignored though :(

It's unusual to see a helpful post from you, it's easy to miss them.

:stir:

I consider my excessive use of sarcasm to be quite helpful, I'll have you know.
