We all speed at some point and you got caught , take the punishment and don't waste a load of money on a solicitor as I think the end result will be the same. :)

+1.

Sorry T-Bear but you'll probably just be wasting money imo.

Maybe worth seeing though if you can get a letter from your employer stating how you need your car for work if that's the case. "Might" avoid a ban then if you're super lucky but bear in mind you will probably get a much larger fine & even more points.

A ban could be a good thing anyway, ...save up some cash, get fitter, maybe even get your licence back clean after a year (if they still do that).

Good luck.

Sorry Jetpilot. As correctly pointed out by Col, anything could happen driving at silly speeds and you have much less control over your car at the speed he was driving at. If he had a blow out or reason to swerve my money would be on the outcome being ugly for him and the car. If you think you aren't risking your life driving at that speed (off a track) then that's your opinion but its certainly not mine. Lets not fall out on opinions though buddy.

I am not going to fall out buddy, but this hysteria of speed and death is just fantasy. Sure if there is an eventuality of some mechanical failure its not going to be pretty, but to be fair as you mention tracks, if you have driven some of the old circuits in this country and i am not talking Silverstone with acres of run off and gravel ala F1, say Castle Combe or Thruxton if something goes wrong in the braking area or straights beside pit wall for example your going to have an equally unhappy ending (unless the mistress of luck is on your side and its pulls you to the infield, perhaps more so because you are giving your car a proper hard time lap after lap, far more chance for something to decide to give up. The only difference is, one is legal and the other isnt, so people get a bit excited and start claiming "lucky to be alive". If you think about every eventuality are you not equally lucky to be alive because the op wasnt coming in the opposite direction and had "mechanical failure"?

so, could you perfectly and legitimately swap cars with a mate for a few months (all above board, fill in V5cs and get new tax etc) in the hope of getting a reduced sentence, and then when the dust settles, swap back into your fast car again?

Potentially. But Ekona is correct its all about showing that you are sorry.

By selling your car its more than words its actions. So the court like that apparently!

Didn't sell my car......sold my soul instead lol

But, yes.....the judges love all that 'seeing the error of your ways' stuff!

As already said, save your legal bills, sell the car, buy a shed, find an online recipe for humble pie and find some good reasons why you shouldn't lose your licence.

Then sit on the cash until the ban ends.

2) ... and those who are mightily scared at the prospect of speed and condone anything but law abiding goodness...

As a note, doing 60mph on a B road through twisties is within the law but on the balance of probability more dangerous that 129mph on a 3(inc hard) lane straightish road. Accelerating hard in a built up area where you're putting more stress through the car is more likely to create a failure and see you heading into a house than driving like I did. Whilst I do have to concede that it wasn't the best of choices speeding I morally sit on my perch knowing that on the balance of probability my choice to drive as i did would not have an impact on other road users/pedestrians in my vicinity, unlike the driving often seen that is 'within the law'.

That said, I just re-read this section and I actually think you don't need a legal team, you've covered it all here, better than anyone else could. Just print this section off, take it along with you and show it to the Judge in the Moral Court. Case acquitted on grounds of "not being mightily scared".

Quick question, does anyone know when they start implementing the Moral Justice System, is it never or never ever?

Fair play. Shame you got caught but life is for learning lessons and this is one. Maybe you should keep the zed and buy a corsa for daily use. Put the Zed on the track and enjoy it to its full potential and speeds much greater than 129. Good look with court but I don't have much hope for you fella 👎ðŸ»

Unfortunately its a shame that people are not more condemning of the far more dangerous driving practices that are seen on our roads every day, which to me are far more of a hazard than a high speed pass on a clear DC, its just that our government like to make some of the more pleasurable things we enjoy into heinous anti social crimes...shame they are not so hot on the ones that really matter.

Absolutely, trouble is its very easy to point a camera at someone and say, you were doing x in an x speed limit, but could a police officer take say an old dear to court for dangerous driving when they are doing 20?

I witnessed a classic the other day when at a job, was outside a house and an older lady pulled up and attempted a 3 (probably 7) point turn and smacked into a tree, she briefly looked as she joined her friend to go walk their dogs, just happened to be looking out the window when they returned. She took a longer look at the damage, proceeded to get into the car tried the same 7 point turn and guess what, hit the very same tree........

That's crazy to speed on there mate, everyone knows the police love to sit along the A120 from start to finish, and that's a busy stretch of road too.

Absolute insanity to do that kind of speed there. That's the top end of 4th gear! At nearly twice the limit, I'm not even sure a decent solicitor is going to be able to do much.

Have to agree with Dan, know the road well, 75 down there max, anyway that aside, can't help with a recommendation but i should think the speed you were doing it's not going to make much difference who you hire, probably better off googling for a specialist and taking your chances. friends of mine witnessed a crash yesterday (they were 5 cars behind) - car waiting to turn right across the flow of traffic .......... decided to not wait anymore and just went

the result apparently was absolutely explosive - luckily no-one was seriously hurt - but bits of car traveled easily 20m into the air

they moving car was doing in the region of 40-50mph - what do you think the result of someone doing 129mph would be ?

Is 130mph dangerous in and by itself? No, of course not.

Is it dangerous on a track? A little, yes, but you have a lot of run off and specialist teams on hand and all the cars going in the same direction and expecting the speed. Risk is minimised.

Is it dangerous on a UK road? Yes, I believe it is. The amount of variables and 'what ifs' push it in that territory, as you just multiply the risk by so much.

Now I told a lie earlier, I have done big speeds on UK roads on the IoM. I still didn't touch 130mph, and they were on perfectly clear roads where I'd have been able to spot a copper with a gun, and other traffic is ready for you to be doing that speed. If you want to nail it, go there, it's a wonderful island.

The worst thing about breaking the speed limit is the amount I have to re-detail and wax the car again afterwards. Sometimes twice a day.

The amount of damn bugs. Ridiculous.

Also it's really unstable with the camber I'm running on the rear wheels and the amount of arch rubbing. Gah. I might sell the supercharger and get tyre paint, a big wing and some wheel paint and toodle about at 70.

Well done for owning up OP, careful about what you put on a public forum and head over to Pistonheads if you want some legal representation pointers. There are numerous threads on there with people in similar situations and someone will DM you with advice.

There's already a thread running over there. I started it for him, just to see what folks thought if they just got the facts.

Agtlaw has just posted, and he's a proper lawyer on there who knows his stuff.

Rookie error to focus on offence mitigation. Offender mitigation is much more important.

OP, if you have fewer than 6 live points then you're looking at a 1-3 month ban.

If you have 6 or more live points then you're most likely to get another 6 points - leading to a penalty points disqualification of at least 6 months.

Sounds reasonable.

Doesn't matter what you think about speeding. 129 clocked, must have been 150 indicated, no magistrate/judge is going to think you got to that speed due to a temporary lapse in concentration.

As others have said, sell your car, show your sorry and understand your mistake (regardless of what you really think), lawyer up if you can afford it, and get your pedal bike out of the shed.....It's chilli and dark this time of year, so make sure you get some gloves, hi-viz gear, bike lights and warn your relatives/friends/co-workers to be ready for your new look :)

Why someone would seek legal advice when they're bang to rights wrong is beyond me I'm afraid..

More about reduced sentence. As you see in the papers, plenty of people do these kinds of speeds and still retain there license.

commit the crime .. do the time? ;)

I have been to court for two offences on the same day, 94 in a 50 and a 133mph in a 70. I walked out with a 3 month ban which I thought was a result.

Lawyer is the best route if you can afford it. You need to play on how important your job is to your family/life. You need to own up to the stupidity and call yourself a "twatbadger" in court. If you admit fault instantly, admit stupidity but also mention how your job is impossible without a licence, you will get a ban, acknowledge that straight away. Were the conditions dry and clear with light traffic? If so, mention that. If it was rush hour and wet, don't mention it.

Look smart as you can, take out any earrings and sound as posh as you can. The magistrates that will listen to this will be 50+ years of age and part of the "higher society". The closer you can relate to them, the better.

Court is just one big game. I also got a ban knocked down to 6 points so either I am ridiculously lucky or I play the game well enough.

And to people that will get insulted at my words. He is admitting fault, but just trying to get a smaller fine and ban which any of us would do in the same situation.

A bit like getting discount off a new car lol

Even though I've had 5 bans in total(in a space of 6 years), it has destroyed me on insurance and has a been a right pain.

I paid £6600 for insurance on an 08 M3.

£4400 for a 05 Clio turbo the year before

I personally now, wouldn't do 129mph. Your stopping distance is ridiculous and even after my 2 advanced Police driving courses and 2 advanced bike courses, you really don't know how bad it can go wrong, not for you but for others as well. I never worried about crashing in a car, but hitting someone else due to my stupidity would devastate me.

Good luck, you might get viciously bummed in court but whatever it is, you deserved it, take it on the chin and don't call the magistrate a ****er, i saw that once lol

he's going to do the time.

But he wants someone to represent him to try and reduce the sentence. And why shouldn't he? If I lost my license for a year I'd be ****ed. Maybe a reduction to 6 months might help.
