DoogyRev Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 ummm it that a tractor or a diesel? To be honest I would not be running that until a actual mechanic or specialist has look at it Quote
DoogyRev Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) Kinda reminds me of this noise . . . Edited September 9, 2015 by DoogyRev 1 Quote
veeg33 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Doesn't sound healthy at all mate. As above, better not start up your engine anymore. Quote
Juggalo Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Sounds like a severely loose timing chain tensioner. Quote
ZEUS Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Kinda reminds me of this noise . . . I can't get the video clip to play on my iPad but this made me chuckle OP it sounds like you need to get it to a mechanic as soon as. Quote

philw99 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Nothing interfering with the belts? have they been changed recently? Quote
Keyser Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Sounds fairly terminal to me - either bearing or chain I'd go with bearing except the noise seemed to change. Gonna need some work though Good luck Quote
Matty_P Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Thanks for the responses. I have changed the two belts a couple of weeks ago. Took it to a garage and he seems to think its bottom end. So I'm guessing a big end or small end bearing? Does anyone know a specialist I can take the car to in the kent area, hopefully near ashford way? Quote
HiddenWomble Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 sly at kaizer is near rochester, often recommended on these forums so i've picked him as my main garage. so far he's been very helpful and very reasonable on the price too. he's closer to you than he is to me! he's a nissan master mechanic, and has been in the top 30 master mechanics across the UK twice now over the years. mostly tends to GTRs, 370s and 350s. i'd just be worried about driving your car with those sounds. does anyone know if it's likely to be doing more damage if driven in this state? Matty_P Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Excellent, I'll give him a bell and let you know what it is. If it gets too expensive I'll have to resort to cards to enjoy myself! :-) Quote
Keyser Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 That sounds like bearing mate driving it like that you run the risk of it seizing up and that can put a hole in the block (ask Grundy) You may find a second hand engine is a better way forwards though. Quote
HiddenWomble Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 he's on the forums too so you can always point him here for a listen. 1 Quote
simonlap Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I would say it's picked up on a bottom end shell bearing. I had a car in last week exactly the same sound. The noise from the white metal bearing shell as it has detaxched gets transferred up the rod and through the piston crown and sounds very loud inside the rocker cover. This particular car was a ford 1.8 Duratec engine and it was big end number one but sounded like exhaust valve number one. Quote
Matty_P Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 I couldn't actually post the whole video as it's only allowing 1MB, but with slight rev the knocking gets louder and faster, then a bit more and the noise cuts out a bit. Strangely after that the knocking noise has gone now (obviously haven't driven it) so I'm unsure whats going on? Quote
TT350 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Relax. Just buy a forged bottom end like meeeeee 2 Quote
simonlap Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Matty, same with the 1.8 Duratec. The noise was there at tickover then not again till about 1900 rpm. Strange. It still pulled well and no other obvious issues at the time. Quote
veilside z Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Not good. I feel for you, we have a Z in the family with the same issue. Hope you can get this sorted without too much of a dent in your wallet. Quote
