Fallout 4 has now been finished. Well, one of the four endings anyway, so I guess technically that's my 'true' ending. I think I clocked in about 100 hours on that, and I still reckon I've half the map to see yet! However, that will have to wait. As I now have a spanky new GeForce 980 in the PC, I figured it was time to give it a workout. F4 looks beautiful on the Xbone, but it's even better on the PC cranked to Ultra. Now, I can't actually tell any difference in framerate despite the Xbone managing 30fps at best and the PC knocking out a solid 60fps constantly, but it's the draw distance and the gloss over the world that I notice the most. Control system is VERY fiddly on the PC, and whilst I could use the Xbone controller I want a slightly different experience humping through the Commonwealth this time round. I've also turned on full cheats, so I'm starting at level 150 with all the perks I could reasonably want, and infinite junk and ammo and stuff. Makes for a totally different game, so stealth isn't that critical but building bases sure is a lot more fun! Since I know the story I don't feel cheated at all, I'm just enjoying mucking around a bit. 'Tis great. I also fired up PCars on the PC too, and no great surprises that it looks a hell of a lot better than the Xbone. It also feels a lot better too, even out of the box, so I reckon this could well get me back into the game. Shame it's only running on my 55" telly in the mancave rather than the main telly downstairs, but I can use my reclining chair up here and it's a much more 'racecar' sitting position with the wheel & pedals. Yup, I think I'm going to enjoy PC gaming again.

 £24K  Steering wheel is shocking. Other than that, and the over doing it of the red inside, that's a good car. Just not worth the cost IMHO.

Is that not just slammed? Granted, I'm hardly the king of street chatter, but I wouldn't call that stanced.
-
Agreed, apart from the fact they're FWD. As fun as a good hot hatch can be, I'd always prefer to have something that drives the rear wheels.

Damage whilst being used, I call that a proud scar of war my friend. Wear it with pride!
-
Yup, no issues at all.

Ah yes, I know that only too well. Tell him it costs 10p to heat the house for an hour but £1 an hour to run a dehumidifier?
-
Tell him to MTFU and turn the heating on! Bit of heat in there will do wonders, can he not just crank it up in that room? Will be cheaper than the electricity to power the dehumidifier.

Rotas on BMWs ftw
-
How much dehumidifying do they need? If it's a lot then I'd just rent one I think, as the smaller units may not be up to the task.

Always next year, my friend

I've seen the vids, it looks horrendous. Even more of a reason to stay indoors and to hell with things when it's that bad.

I don't get people who drive through deep puddles, I really don't. If it's too deep for your shoes, it's too deep for a regular car. If you think it might be too deep, then it definitely is! Always better off turning the engine off and abandoning it than attempting to drive through. Even better, simply reverse and go a different way. Anyways, lecture over. Ricey is right, could well be megaknackered, but only a garage will be able to tell. Do not try and turn it over under any circumstances, 100% recovery truck time.

I really don't get that. Either of them. They're so staged, they're not funny. #grumpyDan

Good question! I'm not sure, if I'm honest. I mean, my old 911 came close but even then on some roads it just felt silly quick (PDK didn't help), and they're still quite pricey for a good 997.2 car. A 458 is delightful but not exactly cheap, and I've driven FI Zeds that come quite close but again at points they just feel a bit much. I guess the closest I've come would be an R300. Never driven on the roads in one sadly, only on the track, but for me that never felt crazy like other stuff has in the same situation. What you really want is something light with a nice linear throttle and a low top speed, so you can spend all your time chasing the red line and changing gears which, ultimately, is the real fun part of driving.

And to save the maths, if we assume an average 350 is about 300bhp and weighs 1500kg, guess where that puts it...
-
Thanks guys, all compliments gratefully appreciated Shares always welcome too! I didn't mention it in the article, but personally I feel that about 200bhp/ton is right where I want to be in terms of road cars. Any more and you start to get a little bit on the uncontrollable side, any less and you don't always get the speed thrill either. It's a nice compromise.

Will, if there's a collection for flowers or charity donation or whatever for the funeral, please let me know.

why are some discs so much more expensive for different cars.
Ekona replied to Miller350z's topic in Brakes
People joke about the M tax, or the Porsche tax, or the Lambo tax, but they genuinely exist. Sellers know their market, and price their stuff accordingly. It does indeed suck for the end user, but that's life I guess. -

Because no-one buys them, so they're more expensive to manufacture. Or they're made in a different factory, or they want to make more profit, or they cost more to design, or because the owner put his pants on the wrong way round this morning. Could be any one of a million reasons, I wouldn't worry about it. -
Try the current Sport Automatic 'boxes on the current 1/2 and 3/4 series range, they're utterly brilliant. As close to a dual clutch as you could get, and tbh I was hard pressed to tell the difference. Only on occasion when I was asking it do something stupid like shift down when I was accelerating hard could I trip it up, and that's something you'd never actually do in real driving.
-
Essentially it's telling you that you're driving beyond the limits of grip, so you'll need to adjust your driving style to the conditions.
-
It says in big letters inside your fuel flap what fuel to use.
-
There will be a delay, the slushbox in the auto 350 isn't exactly cutting edge. It may not actually be any longer than the time it takes to shift with a stick, but it will feel like an age as you're not actually doing anything. If you're happy with a slow shift and want a more relaxed drive then it's perfect, but anyone expecting shifts like a DSG or even the new range of ZF boxes will be hugely disappointed I think. There's no right or wrong answer to the manual or auto question, some people will graduate more to one or the other. Try them both, make up your own mind.
