Zed Shed Crew II another Road Trip Update P2
marzman replied to Keyser's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Luke, was there any penalty for the track closure or marshal assistance at the 'ring? -
I've never bought a new car before. Looking at a 718 Cayman on PCP. Are there any angles to negotiate at all on a PCP deal? e.g. regarding options, or aiming for a lower monthly payment, or APR at all? I'm still a way off deciding yet, and i've not driven one so a decision is a while away... just getting my ducks in a row.

How much money have you spent on cars over the years?
marzman replied to marzman's topic in Other Cars
A few people are missing my point here i think... I understand the 'not bothered how much' approach... I wish I could think like this but I'm too tight with my money. I've probably spent £70k+ on the cars I've owned, but I've always sold them on so probably made £50k of that back so in real terms i've only 'spent' £20k + interest. -
So i've been doing some man maths tonight to help me justify a new car purchase. I've been driving for 12 years and in that time i've had 18 cars. My car buying habits have always been to get the best cars i can at the bottom of their depreciation curve (or as close to it). The newest car i've ever owned was my first zed, which was 4 years old... but most of the cars have usually averaged around 8-10 years old. I've had some pretty good cars i reckon... 2x 350z's, 1x 911 (996), 1x Range Rover Sport, and 6x 3-series BMW's! I usually buy my cars with a personal loan and since getting my first proper job i've paid for a loan ever since (currently pay around £400 p/m). I've just worked out how much money i've physically lost in that 12 years, i.e. money that i now have nothing to show for it, which must be made up of interest and depreciation. Over the full 12 years i've been driving, i've 'lost' £26.3k, which is £182 per month average. If I take out the early years when i had cheap cars and just calculate based on the time i've had a personal loan it's actually £23k and £261 per month. So.... £261 per month in the bin over the years. Damn... i wanted that number to be bigger to help with the justification for a brand new car...!! EDIT - none of the above includes maintenance or modifications. Maintenance is essential and mods are a personal choice which shouldnt come into it, as we all know we're not going to make our money back here!

99% of Porsche owners then Personally I fancy the standard over the S model at the moment... both cars have more speed than can be legally/safely used on the road, so I don't feel the need to pay the premium for the S model. Am I wrong, or does this make me one of the 99% now?

I've been to the Porsche garage today. Same story as you by the sounds of it... went to get a quote for a 14-plate 981 Cayman and came away thinking the 718 was a better deal. I've not heard the engine note yet though...

So this is totally lame, i know, but i liked it. http://retromash.com/argos/ This site has a lot of the old 80's and 90's Argos catalogues scanned in that you can view. If you were like me growing up, then this should be a nice trip down memory lane. I used to look forward to the new catalogue coming out and then would look through the toys section in detail and make a note of everything i wanted for my birthday/Christmas. I've just been through a few years and found a load of old toys i used to have which i'd forgotten about!

Look similar to the ones i used to make, here: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/39484-06-onwards-reflector-leds/ I dont make them any more, it's not worth the time/effort. But i'm happy to do a guide if anyone wants to have a bash at making some themselves... it's really easy.

Took the dog for a long walk this morning, and then have been sat in the garden all afternoon with my wife. Several beers and a nice fat cigar later (Cohiba) and i'm done. Lovely weekend. ..although i can feel the burn already setting in.

Im on the red and green bandwagon. None of this blue and green, thats not a real saying (sorry Ekona's mum). ...but my blood is literally boiling over this vandalism. ****ing aresholes, i'd be on twitter looking for some clever **** to brag about it on line and then i'd be on to him.

If you're set on those colours, i'd get some better decals to improve it. I was looking forward to seeing the anime decal but this one's not very inspiring. I dont know who the character is but from the pics it looks like a low res CGI character. it would be much better with a traditional drawn image. It needs to be much larger too.

Fitting a new roof sounds fun! I'll be working in the garden most probably... prepping for some decking that i'm planning on fitting during June. (Take a week off during Euro 2016... do some DIY and watch football, the perfect week!) And my BMW needs an oil change so if i can get my arse in gear i'll probably do that too.

I'm so glad i live 'up north'. We bought our first house last year. It was a 'modest' £265k, but it's a large 5-bed with double garage in a nice but cheap area. We had some friends from London come and visit and they were really p***ed off, saying it would have cost about £1M where they live! ...just move up here and buy a nice house outright! -
I'd go anthracite personally. Lighter than black so you get a bit more definition, and still goes great with UY.

No way, i was literally about to click on Auto trader to see how much these are going for before clicking this link! Really like these.

My old man in the USA has got one. It's a really handsome car. He loves it but he's not really a car lover, so can't really comment on how good they are. Still looking to get rid of the zed?

Either my Azure Nismo Zed or my Range Rover Sport. Opposite ends of the scale as far as cars go, but both were my pride and joy. Owned them both at the same time actually, so that was a good period in my life! I miss my zed from a social and modding perspective, but I miss the RRS more overall.
