Things that remind you that you live in a ghetto

a quick google and these are the possible outcomes I heard tennis shoes hanging over a power line meant you could buy crack there. It's a time-honored tradition to throw your sneakers over the power lines on the last day of school. When I was a lad of 13 in Nashua, New Hampshire, we used to steal pairs of shoes that had been carelessly left on the sidewalk by kids who had popped open a fireplug. At this point we would play "over the wire keep away" until (a) the kid's mother, brother, father, or a passing police officer put a stop to the game, or ( shoes went up but didn't come down. When I was in the military and guys were getting ready to get out and go back to a "regular" life they would take their combat boots and paint them up all funky before tying the laces together and throwing them over a wire. I agree with the drug theory. I saw a news brief on Amsterdam, and there was a pair of shoes hanging in the ghetto where everyone does drugs. So I assume it means "stop here." Either they're meant to increase visibility for low-flying aircraft, frighten rattlesnakes away, or just for the hell of it. I read in the newspaper that shoes would be thrown over the power lines to serve as a reminder/warning of a murder that occurred nearby. This seems proven to me: as I was traveling past a home in which a drug-related murder had occurred about three months prior … a pair of shoes were hanging from the power lines in front of the home. Depending on what part of the country you are from, one shoe from a light post or sign represents the death of a gang member. Usually seen in the inner city. When I was a kid (late 60s, early 70s) the boys would tie together (1) their own sneakers that they hated or (2) sneakers of the weak and/or overweight kids and toss them over the telephone wires for fun. It usually took a number of tosses to get them up there, so the boys took this as a challenge. The fact about the shoes hanging across the overhead wire is: my wife won't let me bring them into the house after I walked across the barnyard. This is a certified true fact. Used to be a gang sign — sneakers hanging over telephone or electrical wires were to designate gang turf. I'll admit to being a former shoe thrower. After getting a new pair of sneakers, it was a common ritual in my neighborhood to tie the shoelaces of your old pair together and throw them up on the telephone wires. What else are you going to do with your old pair of sneakers? I used to teach inner-city youths in Washington, D.C., and witnessed older children throwing the shoes of younger children over tree branches and telephone lines, or a gang of children would take a single child's shoes and toss them. This was, as far as I could tell, an exclusively male pastime. The kids did this to be mean and make a difficult time of life even more difficult. One fun part about this type of kid is that if an adult tells them to stop, the adult is "disrespecting" their right to do whatever they want. The other fun part about some of these kids is that they are armed. I am not restricting my criticisms to children in inner-city Washington either. There is no solid cause-effect going on here. Just your everyday kid hijinks. I suppose you could say it's a way of marking territory. Shoes can be seen hanging all over the beach area here in San Diego, over lampposts, power lines, trees, etc. It's as pointless as jamming gum in water fountains or throwing water balloons at cars. Just one of the things kids do. So there you have it. It's either a harmless prank, a rite of passage, or a sign of the end of civilization. You figure it out. -
PS i believe there is another wales meet in late autumn i think, alternativly go find some local tunnels.

your lucky your not my wife, and feet stamping would result in me leaving you behind who's paying for the holiday, he who pays gets to choose. or alternatively new car trumps old car.

my HTC goes into standby, but its always on, if you turn it off the alarm doesn't switch it back on like my old phone did. apparently the S3 tracks eye movement so as long as your using it it stays on.

in America it symbolises theres a dealer on the street. i was up in glasgow last weekend, i loved the sign that said, something on the lines of "save a life; don't carry a knife!" got a photo somewhere will dig it out later -
forum has been crashing out for me lots recently or taking an age to load, have generally left it to its own devices and come back later. an update and a refresh sounds good though.

its not so bad on small parts, but laquer does funny things. if you're to fast you get orange peel or dusting, to slow and you get horrible runs. i know you can get runs in paint, but laquer seems to have a mind of its own, you need to know where you want to start and finish so you don't go over the same spot twice etc.

home painting is do able, but clean environment is key, and patience, to be honest painting is easy laquering is an art form.

i had the red ones on mine when i refurbed the wheels on the zed, in hindsight i should have gone with either black or silver. and i may well get some in the future when i refurb the 20" BBS detroits i know exactly why they are great, you know that feeling you get when you curb your nice wheels, usual wanting to scream blue murder feeling. but now replace that with a shoulder shrug and a meh! this make life such a relief; they were great.

S3 theft. £2k reward, DO YOU KNOW THESE SCUM?
rtbiscuit replied to HEADPHONES's topic in Other Cars
I'd be interested to see if everyone got the changes they wanted to the law if they were still happy 10 years down the road. the only reason i say this is that if you visit countries that are heavy police states the people are unhappy and trying to push for a more western style of politics. i agree that the police should be allowed to get on with their jobs, i agree that people like police and teachers should have back some of the powers they used to have. people/students know we/the police can;t do as much as we used to. i'm a strong believer that if you commit a crime you leave your rights at the door. and if something happens to you while commiting a crime; well its your own fault you shouldn't have been there in the first place. -

evidence is important, its what puts criminals away and its what stops joe public going to prison or being wrongly convicted. the law works both ways, if you remove the need for evidence whats to stop me accusing someone of theft with no evidence. and then being locked up for no reason what so ever. thats called a communist state yes the system can be frustating some times but if you play the game so to speak it works for you not against you. -

i agree that if you commit a crime i think you should leave your civil rights at the door when you break in. same with alot of the human rights laws which have been abused to benefit the criminal. The UK law system is one of the oldest and the best. although its not always seen to be doing the best job the laws have been designed to protect you, but sometimes this means that criminals may not always get the right deal. there are major issues with the US system, and also if joe public starts tooling up so will the criminals until you end up with a gun crime isse like the states. at the moment firearms crimes are fairly low and few and far between. just because your packing doesn't detere people, if it did wouldn't the US crime figures be alot lower? -

you could still shoot some one and get away with it. prime example is that farmer who went to prison after shooting that young lad when he was burgled. the reason he didn;t get away with it was he shot him in the back as the lad was escaping. the gun had done its job at scaring the intruder out, the owner took it to far when he shot him in the back. if he'd shot him in the chest because the burglar was coming towards him i think it would have been a different story. at most he probalby would have got a manslaughter charge with no punishment. -

your primary goal should be to get out of the house if you feel endangered. the police will tell you not to confront criminals as you don't know if they have a knife or a gun. but... in a situation where you feel there is no escape as long as you can prove reasonable force; you can defend yourself. this also covers minimum force and excessive force. basically if they were to attack you and you hit them, then thats reasonable force. if they went to hit you and you shot them, then thats not resonable force. or if you knocked them out, and then continued to repeatedly beat them on the floor with a bat, then thats excessive force. its the same when i was a doorman, and its a grey area and one you don't really wont to cross into as it can become their word against yours. you also don;t want to police to come round the corner when your still hitting them, as a police officers report is classed as accurate evidence. and if the criminal looks like they are the victims its you that might face charges. i know we'd all like to beat 10 bells out of criminals but at the end of the day its just a car, its insured, you can always buy another. when your dead; your dead. insurance does pay for a new life.
