  1. Looks nice, one of the most desirable versions being a later HR and having the rare frost leather interior. Worth going to look at at that mileage too.
  2. Welcome. Lucky sod living in Wales, some of the finest roads in the UK for driving, I love the place. Do you have the bangle designed Fiat, one car I always liked but never owned The Z offers an old school rear drive in a sleek stylish body that your accustomed to. Plenty of backward glancing on the petrol forecourt It's quite a heavy car but it communicates really well and is stable when pushing on. It's never going to be hot hatch nimble when changing direction quickly but the torque is addictive. The ace in the pack is the sound, I still maintain its the best sounding V6 you can buy for reasonable money. Mine is off to pastures new next month after three superb years of faultless ownership and subtle modification. It's only going because I'm changing jobs. The modifying scene on these is strong and it's a certifiable condition they call zeditus Oh how I laughed when I first joined this forum and heard the term, I'm not laughing now though, it's like a pringles advert, once you pop that modding cherry you can't stop. Great cars, great forum and members. You won't regret owning one, good luck on your hunt.
  3. Superb car the porker, would defiantly be on my radar if I needed another daily fun sports car. New company motor is a diesel golf though Weekends reserved for a lotus but as I said if it was my only transport the Cayman would be my shout all day long.
  4. Oh I agree Exactly what I did, retrofitted facelift parts and sorted out all known mechanical and dynamic related issues. Joking about the lights aside (that's what it was) buy on condition as others have said. If looked after even mileage isn't really an issue on a Z.
  5. That's the sort of thing my 10 year old daughter would say. Back in the adult world we are all entitled to an opinion. I'm gutted as a huge Honda fan they have decided to persist with this uncohesive design philosophy, as a driving machine I'm sure it will hold up the high standards both in drivabilty and reliability Honda excel at. As an ownership proposition it will he great for the OP, the looks are indeed marmite as he stated and I'm on the other side of the fence. Just being honest.
  6. I thought the last two were a little Buck Rogers but this takes the prize for being well and truly out there as a 70s space wagon. I love Honda and have owned most type Rs, I'm afraid this though goes beyond the ugly stick for me and I wouldn't be seen dead in one its definately marmite your right. I'm sure it's superb once your inside though
  7. I've got a DE running more power than a standard HR. However it's cost me a few grand to get there. HR/ DE revup interior quality is just as naff as the the original with a few more chintzy bits and padded door cards. Early headlights are pants so facelift bi xenons are a must as a mod IMO. All suffer the same suspension niggles etc. Revup can use oil and HR can blow it's oil gallery gaskets plus they decided in the quest to improve the car to put the clutch slave in the box (genius!) , new engine is heavier so power gain is negligible anyway. The benefit of the HR is being able to stay in gear longer with the higher rev limit. It's a smoother unit and better balanced. The new engine is taller hence the bulge, what is essentially a function over form exercise to squeeze in the new engine has become quite endearing as a styling exercise and I like the bulge as do many others. Any Z is good fun but a later car with the new headlights and led tails would be my shout as it was a real pain sourcing them for my early car. The real world performance for road driving isn't even worth banging on about tbh, bugger all in it.
  8. Another bump, probably the best addition for a pre-facelift car. One of the best things I did was purchase some of these, highly recommended.
  9. If it's weekender only buy an Elise or a VX220. You would be pushed to find a more driver focused fun machine. That's what I'm doing
  10. The 370 in white is superb, lovely pearlecence to the finish.
  11. The uprev sorted mine nicely, had a miltek and HFCs fitted first. Had various other bits fitted since to further improve it. Once you have purchased the uprev any future mods can be added and mapped in easily. A mate of mine ran an E36 with no major issues but my 46 cost me an average of 400 a month to keep it on the road and it was a manual not SMG!
  12. I certainly had issues with my old M3 (E46 coupe). You made the right choice
  13. Let's not forget drug driving here, the opposite was true relating to these offences, more younger people than older in my experience. Back then youth culture and the club scene didn't help, at least plod have swab kits now, the sobriety tests were never conclusive enough at times. I even had several diabetics and legal drug stops where they were driving in a manner befitting drink but it was down to the condition of them at the time. One diabetic stop actually saved their life due to lack of insulin, luckily they were wearing a pendant stating the fact they had diabetes. My grandad back in the 70s and early 80s would regularly drink copious amounts and drive home. When his generation started driving I imagine it wasn't enforced and they carried on regardless. Luckily he never had an accident or killed anyone! Crazy, and I can remember seeing the stagger marks on the ground one time as he had made several attempts to get out of our garden gate before jumping in his car and driving home!
  14. In my previous line of work it was noticeable (circa 1990s) the majority of PLOs (various other acronyms here, DIC,DUI etc) were of the older generation. Yes there were some youngsters but in the main it was people that should have known better.
  15. I went out to the car today and the drivers window failed to drop, nothing when trying to open on the switch either. Armed with the necessary tools I removed the door panel and tried the reset button, nothing. On closer inspection the window was sitting higher than it should which was odd. It had pushed the rubber by the mirror up and cracked it slightly. Using a little force and a tap of the motor it started working again. Now last night our dog had a barking fit and I'm thinking someone had interfered with the window maybe trying to force it. After another reset it's now working fine again but being paranoid I'm thinking this may be a precursor to motor problems. It's been fine today but my question is this: I'm assuming there is a sensor somewhere that stops the window closing on an obstruction, where is this located please? A small black self tapper fell out when I removed the door card and it's not the one located in the hand pull switch unit, I couldn't find anywhere for it to go. I also think placing the motor on the removable inner bolted panel is a rubbish design
  16. It's unlikely without a decent sound bite that anyone could diagnose your issue. If it's on lock the first thing I would do is check for any contact points between the tyre and trim in the arch. Then I would check the bearing on the affected side for play or grinding, also check the caliper is free of foreign bodies etc. Does it sound like component contact or something mechanical? Is it rythmic e.g. faster or slower with road speed or constant? Is there a foreign body in the tyre, screw etc?
  17. Also plenty of Mugen goodies available ;). Your right about the sound, I drove a few and Honda did a good job of channeling and modifying the engine note into the cabin. Sounds really meaty inside which adds to the fun.
