  1. Speechless... these figures are absolutely mental!
  2. I just bought genuine Brembo's for mine - £53 for F+R delivered, fitting them yourself is stupidly simple on these cars too, making a new set of pads all round very cheap Nobody has mentioned them yet but I would personally avoid EBC kit (many will disagree).
  3. Can this be done with the 'box in situe? That seems like an awfully cheap fix for the thousands of people with syncro issues contemplating replacement gearboxes?
  4. Mushrooms like this actually live underground, what you are seeing is only the fruits, or reproductive parts. Rather than try to kill them (which will be near on impossible), why not teach your grandson about the wonderful world of fungi? They're amazing things. Poisonous mushrooms are much less common than non-poisonous mushrooms and generally taste bitter and awful (much like their smell). Little harm will be done from entering the mouth without ingestion - it's a common procedure in identification.
  5. I was convinced this was a screen grab from a video console the first watch, wondered why you were all talking like it was real!
  6. When I'm buying a car - First port of call is always the owners club, to see what is on offer in the way of cars, and to get clued up ready for a potential purchase. This place provided both of those for me. Any vehicle specific forum is loaded with indispensable info, essential if you have even the vaguest of interest in your car.
  7. Hahaha, yes, as it happens - He's an engineering graduate
  8. My brother has just started working for Network Rail

    Brake Pads

Went for a spirited drive with a few friends up to the Evo Triangle today... lot's of fun and great weather for September! I'm currently running Yellow Stuff pads, coupled with HEL braided lines, decent fluid and DBA 4000 Discs. I've never found EBC pads very good - and today proved that these are no exception. This is my daily driver, but the brakes do get used enthusiastically on trips such as this and will possibly see the odd track day etc What are people running with similar usage?
  11. Perfect... PM on its way
  12. I'm after the missing bolt pictured below. For some reason these all became very loose and one was lost. Cheers
  13. Paint is something I've never had a good experience with. I am pretty fussy, but it seems it's one of these trades where people are keen to take you for a ride. I need some minor work doing on the zed and also have a few other cars that will need some paint in the not so distant future. I want a decent job doing on the zed, there's some very light bubbling on one of the arches inner lips that needs treating/painting before it gets worse. The other car is a track toy, so doesn't need to look as pristine. I'm after some recommendations, specifically in the West Midlands area (I'm in Shropshire). There's plenty of threads on all the forums I'm a member of, with cars getting nice paint and not needing a mortgage to complete, I want to be one of those people
  14. I had a Leon Cupra before the Zed - FSH and relatively low mileage, it should have been a great car. It wasn't. Uninspiring, flimsy, everything prone to failing, poorly built - newer VAG stuff is terrible. I had a Passat TDi 4Motion prior to that, and whilst a lovely car to own, also had far too many components fail, all expensive to replace. I don't think I'll ever go back there.
  15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321494363628?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Cheap, no?
  16. Looking good, glad the foil worked out
  17. This is very interesting. Does kitchen aluminium foil work too, or just tin based? Yes, it does - It's actually aluminium foil you need, I'm not sure I've ever actually seen tin foil before?! The aluminium is softer than steel, so it will not scratch the surface, it's non abrasive. Rust is metal that has taken on extra oxygen atoms (oxidation) and the aluminium leeches the oxygen atoms away from the rust, breaking it down. A by product of this is also a fine metal polishing compound consisting of the resultant aluminium oxide mixed with the water you're using to lubricate. I've used this many times, it's cheap and awesome!
  18. Looks like you have some oxidation on there. Give the whole thing a clean and then grab yourself some tin foil. Rub it into the oxidised areas using water to lubricate, you don't need to rub hard as it's a chemical reaction taking place, not abrasion. You can then follow up with a traditional polish. Prepare to be amazed.
  19. The term red line comes directly from the red line you see at the end of your tachometer - if you're in this band, you are 'red lining'. It refers to the maximum speed in which the engine can operate without causing damage to it's components. Operate within the red line (in standard form) at some implied risk. A rev limiter is exactly that, a rev limiter. Some good misinformation going on here.
  20. I've recently sold a load of Canon lenses... I do have a useless 18-55 kit lens up for grabs though! There's a really good group on FB for lens trading... great network of people: https://www.facebook.com/groups/second.hand.photo.gear
  21. Got a link or a pic of yours installed?
  22. My brothers just bought a GPX manual - Proved incredibly hard to find anything half decent, these are / were probably one of the most common cars to be abused and 'fast and furious-ed' (read: ruined). As you've seen, most are auto and they're not the one to own. Major problem is rust, or underseal hiding rust. Rear chassis rails, sills, arches, roof and underneath the leading edge of the bonnet. There is a GPXvR on the owners club at the moment, it's very low mileage, manual, rust free and looks clean as a whistle. It does need a couple of jobs, but nothing major and evidently an honest seller, PM me if you'd like contact details. The GPXvR has a Torsen LSD, thicker anti roll bars and a few visual cues, certainly the one to have, if not only for resale value.
  23. We have Japanese synchros... they don't last long!
  24. My battery died without much warning at all this week. Lasted a day after a charge and then I charged it all night to find it wouldn't even turn the engine over in the morning. Grabbed a Bosch battery with 4yr guarantee from Euro Car Parts. Be aware that they have it listed on eBay for £10 cheaper and you can buy and collect locally (currently no voucher codes being accepted on their website and Car Parts 4 Less are more expensive in this instance).
