I would say it's an air lock in the system. Coolant bleeding needs to be done while the heaters are on to make sure coolant is allowed to flow via the heater matrix.

I wouldn't opt for buying a replacement from Nissan as it'll more than likely costs you over £250 for the pair. I would buy aftermarket, kyb are an excellent item. That isn't where you would traditionally see a leak as that's only the plastic cover. A leak if present would be visible on the body of the shock absorber itself as per the below.
