Same here, I drive a Polo 1.4TDI all week, and then the weekend comes and I get all giddy knowing I'll turning the key soon and hearing that V6 power up and ready to drive a proper car Went down to Portsmouth last weekend and my best mate has an Evo 10 and we swapped cars for the day. No doubt the evo has relentless power over the zed, but by the end of the day my mate said he was in love with my zed and if it wasn't for the fact that it was just 2 seats he would swap his evo in for it in a heartbeat. Also, it was the first time I'd heard my car being driven, and boy does the zorst send a chill of excitement down my spine!

Is a degree essential in the UK today? Now with added photo
chirag1988 replied to twobears's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I went to Brunel University and came out with a degree in Financial Maths. What did I do with it? Nothing! Coming from an Indian background, education is somewhat of a status symbol in our culture. I guess it comes from when my parents came to the UK with nothing and worked their way up to where they are now and they didn't want me to go through the same and by default a good education should give you the assurance of a good job later on. This used to be the case many years ago, but as we all know, these days it's not necessarily true. I'm born and brought up here and have seen changes in my life that my parents simply can't comprehend because they grew up in a different time period and geographical location to me. My train of thought at school was to get my GCSEs, get my A-Levels, get a degree and then get a good job. My choice of degree was down to the fact that I enjoyed Maths at school, did really well in it and I wanted to take it further. However during the 4 years at uni, I took a job at Carphone Warehouse in their sales team to work part time to see me through my expenses, and in my 3rd year I took a placement year where I transferred to the Accounts team at Carphone Warehouse to see what life would be like as an accountant. I thought of going down the CIMA or ACCA route which are both reputable fields qualifications. Now I mean no disrespect to any accountants on here, but I found the placement year extremely boring! This is probably due to the fact that I was so immersed into the sales environment and it was such an extreme change of surroundings that I really didn't like it at all. They even offered me a job to return to after I finished uni, but I declined it as I couldn't see myself spending the next few years of my life in the same "dull" environment. Again no offence to any accountants on here After uni I went into recruitment for 2 years - found that the market was hugely saturated and the glory stories of people taking home thousands of pounds every month were down to those who had been in the field for around 10 years and had already built up a strong client base during a time when there was a lot less competition. So I turned my sights to a more practical skill and qualified as a plumber (not gas...yet!) and a domestic electrician. I started taking on odd jobs here and there but needed something a bit more secure to keep the money coming in regularly so I looked at going back into the sales field and went into estate agency. I've now been at the same company for almost 2 years and for the first time I can actually say hand on heart that I'm happy at my job. It may not pay as much as other jobs I could be doing, but I really enjoy the work, I enjoy working with the people in my office and it allows me to have a good work-life balance. And I still take on the odd trade job now and again to keep my skills refreshed. So to sum up, none of the jobs I've done since uni have required me to have a degree. Although I don't regret going to uni one bit. It taught me a lot of transferable life skills which I probably otherwise wouldn't have learned. It also improved my abilities to work under pressure and to deadlines (especially when you have a dissertation hanging over your head!). But with the way things are with uni at the moment, I understand it's a lot different from when I went, and that was only between 2006 - 2010! Fees are rising like mad and the standard of education is not in line with the rise in fees from what I hear. Hope this makes sense and anyone reading it finds it remotely helpful -

Been many years since I played myself, but the Musclepower range by Yonex back in the day used to be pretty good. Don't think you can go wrong with a Yonex to be honest... -

Those rims off a 370?? Nope, they're the GT4 wheels which they started putting on the later models over Rays. Do love the 370 Rays though

Thanks mate, I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can take my zed down there on Monday while I'm in Portsmouth. Thanks everyone else as well for the advice, if I can't get a slot at this place in Southampton then I'll ring around the other garages and see what they can do for me

Not sure if they operate in your area, but as an estate agent we have cases of damp coming up in surveys and we use these guys. Kenwood Plc Clarke's Preservation Kenway If you Google them you should be able to get their contact details. Usually they do a free survey and then will give you a quote for the remedial works. Hope this helps

Saw your car the other day parked up in your drive when I used Beaminster as a cut through to get to Clayhall Avenue from Longwood - stickers look good

After my service at Japex I've been advised to get my tracking looked at and possibly a full geo re-calibration. I've heard Black Boots in Chesham have a good rep but it's just the distance from where I live (IG6). Alternatively I'm going to be visiting a friend in Portsmouth in the next couple of weeks and wanted to know if anyone recommends a place down there where I could go as I'll be there anyway?

Is this weird? Because I'm not happy lol...

Grundy Grundy Grundy...Free Food?? I'd have been first there - forget the news, or whatever, chow down! -
Almost embarrassed myself earlier this week! I was due to take the zed for a service over at Japex, and it was a chilly morning so I thought I'd start her up to get warm while I load up a few bits and pieces I was taking along for the service. Now usually I keep her in gear and I sit down in the car and start her up (you can see where this is going...) But this time I just opened the door, stuck my left leg in to depress the clutch and start her up, completely forgetting she was still in gear! Took my foot away and instead of stalling, she just shot out of my drive like a bullet! My daily was parked across the road and luckily I managed to get my foot out and slam the brakes and she stopped inches from my polo! I jumped in, put her in neutral and waited for a few minutes to let it all sink in...safe to say I would have been in tears at the mangled wreck of both my cars I was surprised she didn't stall when lifting off the clutch instead of shooting forward! Luckily there wasn't another car coming down the road otherwise that would have been disastrous! The incident still sends shivers down my spine whenever I think about it...
