  1. I would think that would be allot less to cause issue. Possibly 0.1mm or less. At 2mm runout or DVT it would probably be undrivable.
  2. We only saw the car point of view but I think it is clear that the drop to the side of the road most of the time looked like inevitable death. Especially on the dirt section. Holy crap.
  3. I remember my 350 HR Coupe had a little escape tag you could pull under the rear strut brace. Not sure about the Roadster.
  4. I bought an auto M235i three years ago. I expect the more practical M135i will be similar. I take it you mean the older M135i and not the 4 cylinder replacement. You drive one you will not be disappointed. You will realise why we thought all BMW drivers were W@nkers. They are just such good cars. Be carful thought the BMW engine at redline is smoother than the VQHR at 4000 rpm. It lacks a feeling of speed on the motorway. I did not know this until I read into it but a 6 inline straight is a naturally balanced geometry where a V 6 is not.

  6. My CSC failed and I got a SMF kit from ZMANALEX. There was a little more NVH at lower RPM as he explained there would be, lower than 1500 rpm. However the drive was more direct. You need to make your own mind up on what is more important to you. I did not regret it.
  7. I know Elon can be a bit of Wnkr but I believe this will be a serious machine. Out of my price range though. Be interesting if the thrusters get through UK legislation.
  8. Ok I must be a bit slow, who is Joey? Does the 370z have the bonnet pedestrian protection things? if so they did not appear to trigger. I think the bonnet is supposed to lift to deflect the pedestrian over the windscreen.
  9. Looks pretty obvious to me. If the cyclist could not see the car his view must have been blocked by a van or something. Therefore the Z driver would have no chance of seeing him. Viral video of crash between cyclist and car sparks debate about who is to blame (msn.com)
  10. Feck me 448bhp. I have a standard M235i and it will spin the wheels on dry roads in the lower gears (Auto). That must be blistering quick. I would be looking at the gear box max Nm rating, also the massive side thrust you are putting on the pistons. That sort of power comes at a cost in not many miles.
  11. Truly saddened by this news. At one point I thought she might be the new Stig. Probably the nicest, most genuinely happy and skilled person I have ever seen on Top Gear. Why is it always the good people?
  12. My mate had an Audi with a electronic ebrake. You could use it to stop you while moving but had to keep it pressed. It seemed to stop the car under control. It would not be an emergency brake if the car had to be stopped for it to operate. The main brakes and emergency brake used to have to be 2 completely separate systems with no common components / points of failure, I am guessing that is still the case. What would be the point otherwise?

  14. More likely the battery post is sqashed / compressed I would think. They are lead and the clamp is probably brass. You could fabricate a shim out of a split bit of copper tube.

  18. WITH EVERYTHING TURNED OFF...…... SET MILTIMETER TO 10A DC Disconnect the negative lead. One probe negative lead one probe battery negative, Someone will be able to tell you the normal residual reading for alarm etc. Do you have a Bluetooth dongle permanently in the OBD2 port?
  19. I was not trying to wind anyone up. I loved the Z but I thought the point of the thread was to get an impression of experience after Z ownership. To give others valid pointers when the time comes. Looks, Agreed. Beautiful car. Rareness. Agreed. Very few about. Reliability. Sort of agree. The only major failure I had was the clutch and CS slave cylinder that cost £1750, but that does not get away from the £3000 it cost me to regularly replace brake disks, banana arms and a one off exhaust replacement. I would not expect any of these components to fail in 130K. I had a 2001 Celica that required no suspension parts or clutch until 200K miles. However BMW have a reputation for expensive unexpected repairs. Great driving position. Sort of agree. If you want the go-cart feeling. Maybe I am just getting old but I now find the higher seat better. Noise. No. Stock M235i sounds better than a stock 350Z HR. LSD. Sort of agree. The stock viscous LSD in the Z effectively becomes an open diff quite quickly, 60K miles or so. Still better than my open diff though. Mind you it has some electronic nannies to overcome this. Fat arches. Agreed. Price point. Not much in it. I paid £19600 for a 1 year old 2008 Z 7K miles in 2009. £22250 for a 2 year old M235i 13K miles in 2018. If you take into account 9 years of inflation its similar. Plus points for the BMW. Some of these are because I am old. It does not have a cassette player. Who had cassettes 10 years ago anyway? The Infotainment, computer, connectivity and electronic aids are like the Star ship Enterprise compared to my Z. Admittedly it was a 10 year old car. In manual mode you could drive at the rev limiter all day and not even notice you should shift up. The engine is that well balanced. Boot. Mine was a 350Z. The Auto box is so good I never drive manual with the paddles. Its the laziest car to drive. 30% better mpg. Faster. Cheap to up the BHP if that's your thing unlike the Z. Turbo lag is a thing of the past. They now retard the ignition timing on half the cylinders to fire a flame front at the turbo to spool it up instantly. I never thought I would say this after all the Jap cars I have had but BMW can build a car. PS. You mentioned "Noise" twice. Is that just because they are not that fast stock and cost a fortune to up significantly the BHP? Noise means faster.... I remember those days, just....
  20. 2016 M235i Auto. Very Quick. Every day and only car. 4 miles a day to the train station. All good so far 2 years in September. Might pickup a M240I in September. If I dare say here, faster, better mpg, 2 year service intervals and much less NVH than my 2008 HR. Strange as I thought the extra expense of a V6 was because it was smoother but I can tell you the BMW inline 6 with the auto box in kickdown goes to 7000rpm without any drama. I await the onslaught...….. Too be fair its on 22000, I kept the Z until 130000 with many banana arm, brake disc renewals and a clutch at £1500 because of CC failure.

  23. I must say I like it. A couple of concerns though. Its hard to judge scale but that tube frame looks really flimsy for an adults weight. You are sat right over the rear wheels so it might be strong enough.... but might be prone to wheelies given the centre of gravity. Please wear some sort of good eye and testicle protection.
  24. I would imagine the speedometer is just an electronic indicator receiving the ABS sensor data. I have not seen a rotating cable since the 90s. If its louder with the window down that would suggest its outside the car. Does the frequency increase with speed or engine RPM? Its probably still there at 30mph but drowned out by road noise.
